Perhaps the complications are only for a few...? | | TheHarlequin says (28/Jun/2003): | I think this game is so original in its makeup that it will be a timeless classic. Though the grahpics are toyish, the battling is fun. The only control you have over the fighting is who your units target (strong, weak, leader). There are so many factors to think of when playing the game as well: does one capture and hold towns, or does one go after the boss straight off? Does one fight with honor, or kill indiscriminately? With hidden treasures, hidden towns, different endings and hidden characters, I feel this game should, if it doesn't already, live on through time. However, to win, understand or master this game is a time-consuming task.
| Fun, open ended game, but lacks depth in story. | | Dustin P from NE Ohio, USA says (27/Feb/2003): | I first played Ogre Battle on the SNES. The PSX version is upgraded graphically and allows saving in mid-battle. I loved the seemingly endless options of customizing my army by class changes, battle party makeup, and recruitment of special characters. The story isn't one that will grab you like a Final Fantasy game, but the overall fun of Ogre Battle will keep you enthusiastic about finishing it. With 12 different endings, there's rewards for those who play with honor, and those who are bloodthirsty warmongers!
| Ogre Battle - Not for every gamer | | Jeff Pohlmeier from Phoenix, AZ, USA says (30/Dec/2000): | First of all this game is pretty rare so the only ways to get are off of ebay or if you're lucky you might find it used. This game isn't very spectacular though, so it's not really worth the trouble. It's fun because you have a bunch of different kinds of characters and you get to watch them evolve into different classes. Also the music is really good too. However, the graphics are bad, except for some of the spells, and you have very little control over anything. Basically all you do is raise and army and form different groups and tell them where to go on a map and then bad guy groups come up and fight them. The worst part of all is that you don't even do anything when they fight, you just watch them battle. It is only fun if you like strategy games, so I can only recommend it to a select few.
