When i think RPG...FF Tactics is all that comes to mind |
| A gamer from San Jose, California USA says (30/Jul/2003): |
When i think RPG....FF tactics comes to mind.....they story is great...in my opinion the best of any rpg ever! sound track and effects are a little tacky..but that doesnt matter in an rpg and it doesnt interfere with gameplay. Graphics are average for a game coming from the PSone. But who can deny that this game does not have the best story ever?!?!? I dont want to ruin the story for you (i want you all to buy the game and fully enjoy it just as i did) so i will just say that it has the most engageing and engrossing story of any rpg i have ever played...there are so many twists and turns that keep you playing and guessing through out the whole game...and when you beat the game...guess what you do....PLAY IT AGAIN..YES its that great! i guarentee it....it has to be by far definatly my favorite rpg of all time and the only games i play mostly are RPG's and FPS's with some RTS games....but hey i could like some pretty bad games so who gives if it is my favorite game...well let me tell you my top 6 favorite games//rpgs of all time..they are all GREAT games...
1. FF tactics 2.Chrono Cross 3.Chrono Trigger 4. FF XIII 5.Star Ocean 2 6.Suikoden 3.........Honorable mentions: FF 3 Secret of Mana Sword of Mana Lufia 1, 2 , and 3...well anyway back to tactics...second to the story id have to say the battle is the best part of the game....while being extremly unique and original, it is perfected as if it has been used a million times before...very fun and time consuming battle system..highly detailed and thought out...the job class system is GREAT and everything from difficulty to job clases is balanced fairly aside from the fact that i found the last battle to be very easy....THIS IS ONE KICK ASS, ROCK SOLID GAME! i enjoyed it from beggining to end and i am pretty sure you will too....

ITS ME AGAIN!! =] |
| A gamer from San Jose, California USA says (30/Jul/2003): |
hey guys i just wanted to add some more to my review....i would like to comment on the GREAT replay value....and some cons this otherwise perfect game has...each and every con has a pro however....
1.con-hard to understand first time around
pro-adds replay value making the greatest game off all time even better then second time around
2.con-first battle is EXTREMELY hard cus it doesnt tell you how to fight and add mroe than one person to the battle.
pro-one you realize how to beat the first battle, you realize how great everyother battle will be...
3.con-some sidequests are lacking in detail such as the bar propsitions....
pro-some are the best ever such as being able to find cloud and add him into your party using all of his limit breaks from FF XII
4.con-graphics are decent at best
pro-contributes to the first Final Fantasy games that got Squaresoft (now Squarenix) where it is today...
BUY THIS GAME IMMEDIATLY!

better every second! |
| swords&shields from paris says (12/Jul/2003): |
the first two battles were very troublesome for me.(i didn't find out until my third try that i could place more units on the field.) I got the hang of it quickly though, it then turned awesome! The fact that i could train units into classes of my choice pleased me to the highest of my possible pleasing. Not only the fighting is good though, the story is the best for me.. 11 stars if i could..

A jam packed game, with a twist of adventure. |
| §hâwn Fèrgusôn from South Plainfield, USA says (30/Apr/2003): |
When I first played this game, I didn't quite get the set up for battle. The graphics weren’t too bad. IT was for the PS one console, so I didn’t except it to be as glorious and beautiful as Kingdom Hearts. The graphics were pretty good though, probably one of the best looking games on the console. As the story picked up I was totally grasped by the deep plot. It was very intriguing. Every new twist in the story left me pondering what would happen next. The side quests were also tedious in its own way, but I still enjoyed it. Having to use Cloud’s Limit Breaks are quite fun to watch. The bosses were a little on the cartoony side, but did have a unique feature to each one. I am happy though that they used the Serpentarious (excuse the misspelling) Zodiac Stone. Last time I saw that was in SaGa Frontier, another underrated title by SquareSoft. Too bad that Ramza couldn’t learn any of the Dark Knight or other Holy Knight skills. The job classes could be arranged better since some jobs were poorly constructed. The battle system itself was superb. The use of an “AT List” was a great added feature that could decide the knock out of your play or the victory for your team. The music was a little on the irritating side after the fifteenth or sixteenth time being sent into a battle sequence. For the music itself, I still loved it. Just a side note: Getting to name Ramza was a little feature I especially liked. His original name didn‘t suite me. I set it to Xanthon, it sounded cooler! Anyway, if there was a sequel to this game, I wouldn’t waste a second to get my hands on it. It was definitely worth all the money I bought it for and more. Simply put, “This game rocks.”

FF Tactics A+ |
| Dustin § from Clovis, California says (18/Feb/2003): |
When i first played this game I was amazed, But that was back when PS one was New. But today im still playing it even though my friends in real life told me its the gayyest game ever or that thay couldn't figure out how to win It was sort of a blow. But enough about that. This game is a Greatest Hits game because its Really very good. I Recommend it over some games (Harry potter, Wild9 Etc.) but if you can barely make Cloud,Squall,Tidus Whoever cast Fire without think 3 times about it I dont recommend this game.

Good example of why FF games are addictive |
| Sacha Rajewski from Kitchener, ON Canada says (15/Jan/2003): |
Well, I just finally completed collecting every FF game i could get my hands on and this was the final one...I've gotta admit that even though the graphics and gameplay are different from the other Final Fantasy games you could find on the PSX, it is equally addictive. I found myself pulling an all nighter to keep seeing more. The battle mode is amazing, although i think they could've put alot more effort into making the summon effects a little less laughable. I feel that it didn't do justice to Bahamut or any other of the summons to see them in 2-D...As for the story, its great...I like the fact that they made the story with so many twists in the plot. Almost makes you feel sorry for the characters. I liked the fact that you could train your party to have different jobs and to learn different skills. Although i wish that you could've been able to change Ramzas appearance with the job...It got kinda comfusing sometimes when i couldn't figure out what i had him set as....As for the enemies, i didn't feel they struck too much fear in me...kinda funny in a way..i couldn't take it seriously...Not the kind of bosses you'd expect from a FF series...Sephiroth and Ultimicia both intimidated me...Those Zodiac monsters only amused me. Plus i think the game needed more side quests. But all in all, i was impressed. It was worth the money I invested in it.

| Ben(tuna) from New York says (27/Dec/2002): |
Just like VIII I played the game onced and disliked it but when I played it again I was impressed with the greatnesses of this game. Very unique battle system but fun and a good game overall. Not my favorite though probably one of my lesser favorites maybe even the worst FF game but the worst FF game = the best of any other game.

WonderFULL!!! A MASTERPIECE Stretegy/RPG Game |
| MeJOFO!!! (Age13) from California, United State of America says (13/Dec/2002): |
10/10 Final Tastasy is a very complicated game. There are 19 job classes, including tons special job classes, and all of 19 job classes are tottally different. There are four different kind of abilities like Attack, Counter, Support, and Movement. You can also use secondary Attacking ability which it is almost same as having two classes for each character and there are like more than 200 ablilities. Speed is great from this game. It's different from a movement. It's also called CT and if you CT go up to 100, then your able to control you unit. If one character has speed of 9 and other one has speed of 8, that means that the guy with speed of 9 will be the first person who can move and attack. There are also magic charging speeds. Charging speeds are depends on spell not the character's speed. Most of time, strong spell have slow charges. There are only few problems on this game. Some special abilities are require to charge, but some abilities are off balenced. There a ability that you would use it only for fun. That attacking charging speeds are terrible for a example of charge 10 from archer's attacking ability. Short won't support the archer's ability and that support ability can be learned from archer. If your character dies, your character will disapear after three turns. The more speed you have, the more you character will vanish. Character speeds are depends on level and job classes. Most of game are gay because you get gameover when your main character dies. This game get's game over when your main character is vanish from the battle so it is much better.
9.5/10 Graphics are awsome. I got so impressed by looking at the giga flare, glaxy, and haste and slow 2. Dark Knight's Night Sword looks terribly awsome. The animatioe looks great, and the backgrounds are good. The graphic details looks great.
10.5/10 ?? MAN! This game has best music and sound effects are great. This game was awarded the best music game ever from whole console. My favorite music is from the first battle. It's a wonderful music that I even tried to sing it with my nose when I was eight-year old. Sound effects are great as well.
Story 9/10
Replay9/10
Overall 10/10
Pro
-Best Sound Tracks
-Best Stretegy/RPG game
-Great Graphics
Con
-Some say that this game is too hard.
-It wasn't that popular.
MUST HAVE FOR SOME RPG GAMERS!!!!!

| A gamer from new castle.ind.usa says (20/Oct/2002): |

It is a great puzzle and it keeps you guessing GREAT GAME!!! |
| the cheater from detroit,Mi,USA says (2/Jul/2002): |
Finalfantasy tatics had such a great story to it.It also was great with the battling and so forth. It made me never want to stop playing. Its graphics changed alot between the different final fantasy games. A 3D world and 2D characters blended very well to make a great game.I really loved the music as well. But the monsters being on the same level as your own characters sort of bothers me. I also had alot of fun playing this game it was always making me guess what would happen. This is one of the best games i ever played

Great but might have been better. |
| Odin from streamwood IL says (12/Mar/2002): |
This game had everything you could want in a stratagy/RPG game. It had An invative battle system, a Great mix of levels and a wonderful story line. I would have given it a 10 exept The ending was strange and the last boss was easier then most of the random battles. I also wonder why the last level was where it was. It is however still a great game and I hope that square will make more stratagy games.

Perhaps the best tactics game of all time!!!! |
| Joshua Faust from Albany KY. USA says (31/Jan/2002): |
Final Fantasy has always set the bar for the RPG genara, for many generations. However, when they made this game, they leaped into a whole new world of gaming. Final Fantasy Tactics is one, if not the best Tactical game ever. The graphics keep an old traditional look of some of the better SNes style games, but are also a 3d hybrid, making a stunning perspective. The cast of characters are interesting, and you never know whom is really on your team, or whom is a trader untill they make there move. The job classes which were derived from Final Fantasy 3(jap) are consistent, with loads of new features. However, I still find my self at a lost when the onion kid status was not remade on to this tactical game. Anyways, the story is astounding, with lots of twist and turns, and the battles seem endless. With 50 plus hours of gameplay and tons of hidden easter eggs, such as getting Cloud Strife (ff7) on your team, and a deep dark dungeon that seems endless, this is one game that will be sure to impress any other fellow gamers out there to have in your collection.

Why We Live? So We Can Play Final Fantasy Tactics |
| Lott Darklighter from Princeton, Texas, United Staes Of America says (26/Jan/2002): |
You should definitely play this game. Oldy but a goodie this lasts as long as you want.
Playtime: 300 hrs. Thats how many hours i played on one file
Fun: Off the charts
Graphics: 6 its 2-d for cryin out
Storline: Cool
Well if i were ebert from ebert and roper i would kill roper and get a new assistant then we would rate it everybody in the world two thumbs up!
This game is fun if youre patient if not youll beat it in a week and be sorry because youll miss out on so much it wont even be funny.
You start out as a Rich kid named Ramza a half commoner but half noble despised by his brothers his father dies after a longterm illness well piece by piece he finds himself in complicated affairs everyone using everyone else to wage their private war. After a lot of things he makes it through and i can't spoil the ending So i give it a *********** star rating the best Rpg playstation ive seen in a long time
If i had money i would remake it in 3-d and give everyone a free copy because its so good. The bad thing is that most of them are old design and scrtach easily but the game is whoa
Well till' next time

No excuses you should own this game |
| Brandon from San Diego says (12/Aug/2001): |
As of today, August 9, 2001, you have no reason not to have this game in your possesion. There was a reason it was selling for over $100 on E-bay and that's because this game is great. Now thar it's a "Greatest Hit" you have to buy it. this game is easily one of the best games on the market, with a great story line and fun strategy style gameplay. I know you've at least heard of it now go buy it, come on it's sooooo cheap now how can you resist.

DEFINITLY up there with the BEST GAMES OF ALL TIME! |
| Biel from Marquette, Michigan, USA says (20/Jun/2001): |
Looking for a game with the best battles you've ever experienced? Look no further my friend, then Final Fantasy Tactics! This is my second favorite game of all time (next to Chrono Trigger for the SNES)! I love how there are so many different combinations and little things you can change for battle. Sure it's hard to grasp right away, but when you get a grip, it's WELL worth it! The other minor problem is the plot; it is very intresting, but I doubt you will understand it the first time through. This game definitly has great replay value (I'm already thinking about my next game), so get it NOW!!! Why? Because it's worth it!

One of the best, and hardest, Playstation games! Worth playing! |
| Hank from South Amboy, NJ USA says (15/Sep/2000): |
I have to say that this is one of the best Playstation game so far. (And this review is 3 years after the game was made so I mean, towering over all other games. The graphics aren't the best but since when do we judge a turn-based strategy by its cover? The gameplay is very addicting with 20 some jobs and many, MANY more moves your characters can do. In this game, you actually think and try to outwit your enemy. There were innumerable times I slammed my controller on the ground cause they just kept killing my men, ALL THE FREAKIN TIME!!! As for music, the score is magnificent setting the scene for a middle-age battle, like it should be! And this game is FUN! F U N FUN! 50+ hours of gameplay, at least if you want to gain levels. I know that if ANYBODY plays this game, they WILL get addicted, I'll put a wager on that. I know I'm going on and on about how great this game is... but NO GAME IS PERFECT! I wish the story was a teeny bit more simplified even though I thought it was brilliant. I realized, when lending this game to my friends, that they don't seem to have the mental capacity to understand such plot twists and turns. I guess the Japanese must be smarter or something because I've noticed a BIG difference between stories in Japanese games and stories in other games. Also, i think the spells were too randomized. For instance, I cast fire 2 on a chocobo and it does 78 damage. However, when i cast it again on the same chocobo with the same spell, it would do maybe 23 damage. Just a tad bit too randomized. (I'd like to know whether I'm about to kill an enemy or not) All and all, even with my pathetic excuses for flaws, this game is a very underrated masterpiece and is just a big remember that we should have more turn-based strategy games.
Graphics: 4
Sound: 20
Gameplay: 35
Fun Factor:20
Story and ending: 19
lifespan (how long this game will be fun) 20
Total: 99
Note: If such a minor detail as graphics wasn't involved, at least in RPGs and strategy, there would be a lot more positive reviews for these games... just a reminder.
Worth it: YES!!!
