Subject titles are for the weak... ;) | | Malk from Wisconsin, USA says (6/Aug/2003): | The Great: First Impression: Awesome awesome awesome Story: Loved it Graphics: Best you can get Ending Satisfactory: Very much satisified
The Good:
Characters: A few could have used more development, but overall I loved em all. I don't see how people can compare Cloud (sullen, moody) to Dart (generous, a bit dopey), Cid (trash-talking, tough) to Lavitz/Albert (loyal, protective of others), Tifa (strong, a bit spunky) to Shana (shy, caring), and Barret (mouthy) to Kongol (loyal)...what about Haschel and Miranda? I can maybe see a little bit between Lloyd and Sephy, but not enough to make them any different from other RPG baddies...it's been awhile since I've played FFVII though, so forgive me >_<
Sound FX: I didn't think that the voice acting got old, but I wish for the sake of others that there was an option to turn it off
Controls: Additions were a unique touch and made the game more interactive, and I loved the Dragoon transformations and abilities. They're not really like Limit Breaks at all. Limit Breaks build up as your character takes damage, while Dragoon transformations build as you give damage. You only get one Limit Break at a time but you get up to five Dragoon Attacks.
Challenge and Difficulty: Good for RPGers of all types, whether beginners, novice, or advanced, or even if you're not a big fan of RPGs at all, it's worth playing.
Limited Storage: Some people complained about only carrying 32 items, but I thought that this actually made sense and made you think about what items you REALLY needed. Sure there were times I wished I could carry more items, but limiting them helped me get rid of useless items or upgrading items. Besides, how much sense does it make for 7 people to carry around 100+ items? Although I did think it was odd that you could carry up to 225 weapons/armor/accessories...
The Bad:
Music: But that's just my opinion....Translation: Doh! >_< Find a translator who speaks the language that the game will be written in!
Game Play Variety: I like my minigames...um...there were...only about...four...in this game...and none were fun. :(
This fangirl gives LoD an 8 out of 10 (actually I'd give it an 8.5, but there is no .5). I highly recommend it to any gamer.
| One of da Best RPGs ever | | Michael from Westminster, California USA says (6/Aug/2003): | A very GREAT game with a very good storyline. N for da divine dragoon juss do divine cannon n u'll kik ass wid it against da last form of da boss. juss do it like 4 or 5 time. i only had to do it 3 times hehe cause my characters were already strong.=)have fun playin this game
| this game is way better thatn any ff than i have ever played | | aaron from ottumwa, iowa says (5/Aug/2003): | There are alot of reason why i pick this game over ff. one would be because of the graphics the are better than any other ff on playstation. number two would be cause its not as fast pace and u can work out a plan to keep your self alive longer. this game resemble ff because they were both made by sony computer entertainment but i would still chose this game over any other role playing game out there.and another thing is u cant really cheat in this game unless u have a gameshark i kinda like that it makes the game better without them. also the value of this game is really low so if u want a new rpg game to try you should try this one its really cheap.
| This game is great! | | A gamer from CA, USA says (4/Aug/2003): | This game is great! I know this review may be ages late since the game came out but this game is an antique.
The graphics look alright for its time, but the thing that struck me alot was the cutsceans. They looked awesome except for the fact that you cant hear a word they say.
Music wasnt as good as some game before it but it had the basics, suspense music, battle music, dramatic music, and action music.
The long gameplay of the game is what every game should have. You dont want to get a game that you can beat in 2 hours and then just have it sit on your shelf and regret wasting money on it in the 1st place.
The battle system was kind of interesting. I like the additions and recovery system which was fun and challenging. Unlike in the FF series where you only did one hit or that a potion only recovered 100hp and you had over 5000hp. The magic system was also kind of impressive. Although a limited inventory hindered collecting hundreds of magic items, it was still ok.
Transforming into a Dragoon is also pretty neat. Although i dont like the fact that you cant guard, use items, escape, or transform back on will made it scary fighting a super strong boss and using special. The Dragoon magic is also nice although there could have been more spells to cast. Long spells are also alright as it gives you time to look for something in the fridge.
The story is also ok for an rpg. It even had an unexpected ending which i love to see in games.
Overall this was a fun game that has all that it needs to be a great rpg.
| The best game ever! | | Rose from New York says (27/Jul/2003): | This is the best game I've ever played! Final fantasy is no match to this game! Those 3 years taken to make this game was worth it! The Legend of Dragoon is my favorite game of ALL time!!! This is a great game everyone must play it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Play it and never forget it!
| The Legend Of Dragoon | | Mike from NY USA says (22/Jul/2003): | To beat the Divine Dragon u must not transform in2 dragoons or tha dragon can do more serously damage!!When i was fighting him,i transformed in2 a dragoon all of them and then that Divine Dragon just kicked me and it did 10500 damage 2 every1 in my party! So thats y DON'T TRANSFORM IN2 DRAGOONS!And pick the strongest Adddition of Dart like "Crush Dance"!It does 250Damage!And also choose Albert,Dart and Kongol 2 beat this hard monster! It took me 22mins. 2 beat this dragon!Keep on using additions 2 kill this dragon! When your on yellow or red of HP just keep on guarding and make sure u bought Angel's Prayers!Guard alot with Albert and Dart! When Kongol has Blue Hp,then start attacking with additions!I'm also stuck in the game!I have 2 reach the Town or City called SnowField but i can't and don't kno were the exit is 2 the worldmap!
| This game is the SWEETEST | | Zimo from pawcatuck, CT, USA says (22/Jul/2003): | Now, everyone says this game is sterio typed. big hero in big armor, girlfriend, hidden innate powers, and there's the whole emotion revenge thing. but, it's the plot and creativaty that makes this game happen. all the additions, magic, characters. If i was to recomend and RPG, this should be the first one everyone should get.
it's like an introducion to rpgs. Final fantasy games, crono cross, and some other games are a matter of fact strangley deep and hard to understand. But, with a simple, deep plot like that of Legend of the dragoon, those games will come with simplicity.
That is how i started.

| | Some guy from San Antonio, USA says (11/Jul/2003): | I've got LOD and FF7, and I see the similarity in characters, but give me two random games and I can point out similarities between them. Y'all dis everything in this game! The music was decent (FF7's got old after the first reactor), the characters where different in details (most are alike in the big picture, which is what y'all shot to pieces), and the battle style was very unique. The luck factor could be random and unrelyable, while the addition system gave you something else to level up, in addition to a dependable way to get high amounts of damage. Yes, button timing is old, but (correct me if I'm wrong) didn't they do that alot in FF7, 8, & 9? What do y'all critisize now? The long battles? The random battles in FF7 were at least three times as frequent, giving you roughly the same amount of time spent battling. Sure, the 32 items max was annoying (and pushed my rating down from 10 to 8), but is any game perfect? As said by another reviewer already, FF7 tried too much to be a movie. The scene where Sephiroth kills Aeris was slow and expected. Revolutionary? I think not. FF7 was an RPG with whoop-dee-do-rah graphics, a battle system like most others, and a plot already old and used. The only thing "revolutionary" about it was the cinematics, which were slow and glitchy. LOD had smoother cinematics (though I have to say, not that much smoother), a battle system unlike any other, better graphics and a decent sound track. The storyline in FF7 had several dead-ends that left me looking where to go for hours, and was confusing about half of the time. LOD at least told you where to go, if not indeed getting you there. While FF7 is not "great", I would call it good. LOD is much better, easily earning a "great", if not "excellent" in my catigory. Chrono Cross doesn't deserve to be called the sequel Chrono Trigger, or a decent RPG for that matter.
| the legend of dragoon is the bomb | | nick from columbus, ohio north america says (9/Jul/2003): | The legend of dragoon is the best game i've ever picked up.All together i've played 9 months,24 days and 17 hours. And in all that time ive beeten it 63 times! This game is so hard to beat but if you play as much as i did you'll get better and better.
| Brings Joy to the Mind and Tears to the Heart! | | Kyle S. J. Kitching from Oromocto, New Brunswick says (9/Jul/2003): | When I first bought Final Fantasy I thought it was the best series ever! When I heard Legend of Dragoon was the best game ever I laughed. But I was wrong. It was better than all the Final Fantasy Games put together! The retro music, stunning graphics, amazing storyline, and fabulous additions blew me away. I especially like how every character has their own personality. Dart - brave, Shana - speaks her mind, Rose - the silent type. I can only say one thing about the game. The best RPG game in history!!! Or maybe the best one yet!!!
| Love this Game | | Regina from Mount Arlington, NJ, USA says (8/Jul/2003): | LOD is the best game so far that I have ever played. There were times I wanted to give up and put it down but I ended up picking it right back up again and glad I did. Its exciting, the graphics are excellent and some of the places they went to were really well thought of and detailed. I have not finished the game yet but will be sad when its over and wonder if I will pick it up and start all over again?
| The Legend Of Dragoon | | Adam from El Cajon, USA says (8/Jul/2003): | Im only 10 years old but i cant believe that Legend Of The Dragoon is so good. Im stuck right now though I cant somehow kill the Divine Dragon. It sucks cause the staff i took broke and my dragoon spells hardly work. (Even Final Burst!!!) I give this game a 10 for a good job on: Graphics, Combat, Magic, Transformations, and best of all... Making the whole public play the game!
| This game is awesome an if youve never played an RPG before i recommend you start with this game!!! | | Jory from USA says (6/Jul/2003): | The greatest game in my opinion is Legend of Dragoon. This game takes off relatively fast and doesnt slow down...even when the bosses seem too tuff. The game play is great with the whole game spanning over four disks.the side quest are numerous and their is always a good time to be had...mini games and betting at sea are some examples.the opening cut scene is just awesome and leaves little to be desired and the sound qaulity is astounding...the graphics are okay...but the action makes up for this.this game is for any type of person with love, action, death, ecitement and a little touch of humor here and there.many may quit and give up on this game but soon find them selves back at it in a day or two...i love this game cus it gave a great sense of reality...the characters were beleivable and seemed to have real feelings...you can feel Shana's feelings toward Dart as you can feel Roses shame for what she did in the past...this fact alone would be a good reason to get the game.It might even make some sad as the ending cut scene begins to play.this game takes a great deal of time to beat.even for a hardcore gamer such as myself...the fighting parts are spiced up with a special fighting technique called additions.many games have these but this games is different...the items are orriginal and have great particle effects and you watch in astonishment as Dart brings down an opponent with his mighty Flame Shot...the bosses are even cool. You'll love the Divine Dragoon and the rest of the enemies...you can tell the producers spent time on this production and you'll be glad they brought this epic adventure to your console...happy fighting future and already LOD fans!!!!!!!
| READ THIS DRAGOON FANS! | | Brock Jones from Collie, WA says (4/Jul/2003): | I beleve LoD is not a rip-off! LoD Is the best RPG i've ever played! The graphics are awesome. The characters were Cool!
-Dart, the lead hero is awesome. I liked his Dragoon magic attack, "Final Burst". He needs to stop thinking of Shana as a baby sister and realise her feelings for him.
-Lavitz Slambert was a great character. He was Dart's Best friend, he was the Leader of the First Knighthood, Killed by Lloyd The sword master. Lavitz is a strong knight, but fate got to him before he could fulfill his mother's wish to hold a grandchild in her arms.
-Kongol is super-strong! I noticed a strong enemy when i was wiped out the first time fight! He needs to extend his vocabulary, though.
-Doel is really hard, and i can't beat him.
This game is the best!
| Legend of dragoon is my favorite and Meru rocks | | Jose from Puerto Rico, San Lorenzo says (3/Jul/2003): | I like a lot the game it had a good story and cool characters. The bomm is Meru she is greate in dragoon. I want to now the old dragoon history like Sherly and the others. I wish they do a series , movie, and Legend of Dragoon 2
The game is awsome!!1
| Why should you play legend of the dragoons. | | Manvir Singh from Bakersfield,California,USA says (30/Jun/2003): | One reason is the graghics in the end.It is sweat when you git the divine dragoon spirit. But you only git two different attacks.(1)Divine Ball,(2)Divine Dragon Cannon and you don't git to summen the Divine Dragon because you kill it when you fight it and trust me the Divine Dragon is extremly hard even with the Dragon Block Staff.
'
| Love Meru | | A gamer from Usa says (28/Jun/2003): | I LOVE that game its the best. Its my favorite game ever and Meru is my favorite character in the game she RULES i LOVE her she rocks i also like he Dragoon its da bomb long live meru!!!.
I love Legond of the dragoon its i the greatist game ive ever played (never got to the end) The game rocks!!!!
| Why you should pick up Legend of Dragoon | | InkedAngel81 from Murfreesboro, TN USA says (27/Jun/2003): | Sit dn, shut up, and read.I remember when Legend of Dragoon first came out here in the US. I was walking through my local Wal-Mart and decided to check out the electronics section when I saw the game's demo for play on the PSOne. I saw graphics that knocked the snot outta anything that was on the market, not to mention when I actually tried the game out a couple of minutes later I found out that the battle system was unlike anything I had ever seen before!
Anyways, LOD was amazing... I still haven't finished the game in its entirety yet, but I plan on it, whenever I have the chance to sit down for a few hours outside of class and perform-ances in the theatre, that is. The battle system is top notch, it actually makes you work to get more damage. You can't just find the best weapon in the game, max out your strenth and then hit the "Attack" command to whip out mega-damage at the drop of a hat. You also don't just have to button-mash when your attack animation goes off in order to pump your attack to ultimate kill status, you have to time the presses, and actually succeed before you can get more damaging attacks and skills.
The characters are believable as well. I can replace any one of the characters in the game with one of my friends that I always hang out with... why? 'Cause at the heart of it all, each character, whether human, Giganto, or otherwise has a personality and motives. Add to it the fact that when a certain character bites the dust the plot line has already given you a ready replacement... THERE YOU GO!
The item system was realistic. I don't care how many games you have played where you can carry 9999 of item x, how in the world do your characters CARRY all that crap!?!? This game FORCES you to make decisions on what you are going to haul around with you... and yes, there were times when that almost cost me a BIG battle, but that's what memory cards are for! Then take into account that your armor and weapons aren't a part of what the inventory system COUNTS towards carried items, and you realize that you only have to manage the items you USE in battle, not EVERYTHING you find, and you can appreciate why the designers made the game this way.
Even though I could hit every aspect of the game, and praise it on hands and knees, there are a few bugs, but who cares? Until then, if you haven't played Legend of Dragoon, at least rent it, and remember, it's a PS Classic title, which means AT MOST it's gonna cost you $20, and if you have played it, try and look at it ALONE. Don't compare it to any other games out there RPG or otherwise, and see if your rating doesn't bump up a notch or two... Remember, all NEW games kick butt, we've never seen 'em before. Games aren't ALWAYS a rip-off of another game, but let's face it, there are some UNIVERSAL elements in almost any form of entertainment, from games to movies to comics to books. And finally, if you just can't stand this game 'cause of coincidental similarities look back at who MADE this game... SONY. If Sony hadn't have made the PS as a platform who knows what we would have missed out on as gamers, and if they wanna take a little piece from a couple of games that have been made for THEIR machine and slap 'em together along with some completely new and innovative twists, I say they have the right to do it! Besides, it's all about the fun you have when you play the game, not the stuff you THINK was taken from somewhere else and put in a game because "It worked in ..."
| Overall one of the coolest games ever made!!! | | Lady Sephiroth from Bale, Serdio says (25/Jun/2003): | LOD is a really fantastic and great game. Not only was it cleverly put together, but the dialogue and story that the game has makes it quite popular (for many reasons). I'd have to say that the major flaw of the game are the glitches with the voices matching the text, (ex: Albert's Blossom Storm/Flower Storm addition) but everything else is pretty good. One thing that this RPG may lack is the quality of the music, and although the game follows an intersting story, it tends to slow down as you progress through it, and it drags on making it a little boring.
(That and, all you people who say this is better than FF...You couldn't be more wrong.) Final Fantasy, on the other hand, keeps the person guessing and enjoying the story...But hey, it's still one of my favorites.
