Gameplay: 10/10
This game plays like many other rpg's. The controls are fairly simple, you use the directional buttons to move(obviously), triangle brings up your menu, etc. This game features random battles, and a turned base battle system, like most rpgs. You can hold up to 32 items, this seems kinda small compared to final fantasy's 99 per item limit. But its nothing to worry about. You travel to different locations using the worldmap which you can access anytime during the game. OK lets get into the battle system, This game brings a very revolutionary battle system to the rpg world. This part is a little bit hard to explain so ill try my best You attack using special moves called additionals, these attacks require timed button presses in order to get the full power of the attack, when you start out your attacks at first you start out with a 2 hit combo, but as you progress through the game you gain more additional moves each with a different name and look, each one you get adds 1 hit, the max hits you can get is 8. Now your probably wondering how do I execute these moves and get the full combo in. You can add more hits to your attack by pressing the x button at certain times during your combo, this probably sounds confusing but it really isn’t all that hard to do the moves, some people don’t like the battle system because they say that the additionals are to hard to execute but I think it brings a lot more fun into the battles, because you have to be alert all of the time or your attack will either be counter attacked or you wont get the full combo in resulting in less damage. you can also use magic items during battles, when you choose to use these, it will prompt you to tap the x button repeatedly the more hits you can get on the x button before the time runs out the more powerful your magic attack becomes. but I found the magic items pretty useless because the timer runs out to quickly and my magic attacks only did mediocre damage. During the battle you may also transform into a dragoon warrior each characters dragoon transformation is unique, when you transform you get a very beautiful 10-20 second sequence of your character transforming into his/her dragoon state. in this state you are more powerful and you can also execute special additional attacks and magic attacks, the additional attacks in this form are slightly different then the ones in your regular form, these look a lot different and are more powerful, and also require timed button presses, when you use your dragoon additional attacks a circle pops up with a little triangle at the 12 o clock point on the circle and a little glowing circle goes around the bigger circle ad you must press the x button exactly when it hits the triangle, other wise your attack stop and wont reach its full potential, each character has 5 unique magic attacks in dragoon form when you execute these attacks you get a breathtaking sequence of the attack,( these usually take 30 seconds this may seem like a lot of time but it is well worth it to see these kind of special effects on a psone game), and you can also summon dragons once you become powerful enough. Once your SP(spirit meter) meter is full you are allowed to transform into a dragoon, how long you stay transformed depends on your dragoon level which can be increased the more your fight in your dragoon form. The max time you can stay transformed is for 5 turns, then you revert back to your original form. As you can see the gameplay is very detailed and plays a large part in this game.

OK this is the beef of many rpg’s, the story. The legend of dragoons story is very in-depth and interesting I would have bought this game just to experience the great story that comes with it, I will elaborate on this amazing story some. The Legend was born 10,000 years ago… and began with the Divine Tree. Nothing could compare to its mystical powers. It is said that this massive, yet graceful entity gave birth to all living things. One after another, races of plants, animals and unique beings fell from its branches and life spilled forth over the land. The 105th race was the powerful Dragons. These towering winged destroyers would strike terror into anyone who beheld them. In time, there Dragon Spirit would be revered and worshipped. The 106th race was the Human race. These peaceful beings lived a quiet agrarian existence in harmony with the world. The 107th race was the formidable Winglies. These flying conquerors set out to build great floating cities and gain dominion over all living things. In time, their aggression enslaved the passive Human race with little resistance. The spirit of the Divine Tree coursed through all its offspring. The races took their place on earth, filling the desolation with lushness and activity. But the beauty of the tree could not hide the ugly blemish in the land of floating cities. The Winglies resigned supreme. The human were enslaved. Divided by Hatred, a battle for freedom would ensue. Both thought their very survival depending on victory over the other. According to legend, the Humans enlisted the help of dragons. Drawing on magical forces, the humans became Dragoon Warriors harnessing the savage power and soul of the Dragons. Dragoons were supernatural warriors who attacked with fierce combat skills and deadly magic. They overpowered the Winglies in a bloody confrontation. The humans prevailed. And they learned to co-exist in peaceful harmony. But beneath the tranquility, lurks a mysterious prophecy. Love. Revenge. Death and destruction. Ever 108 years A Black Monster emerges to bring death and destruction to the world in search of the moon child that holds the key to the truth. That is merely a prequel to the massive story in The Legend of Dragoon. Buy the game to find out the whole story
Graphics: 9/10
The graphics in The Legend of Dragoon are definitely some of the best I have ever seen on the Playstation The character models are very well done, as best as you can expect on the Playstation. The dragoon transformations are very well done, and so are the magic attacks. I found myself transforming and doing the magic attacks countless times just to be able to see them one more time. The towns and cities look very realistic and innovative, all in all I am very happy with this games graphics.
Sound: 8/10
Sound really isn’t that important to me in games, as long as it is tolerable it is ok with me. This game does feature some really good battle music although it isn’t varied to much, most of the battles have the same music tracks This may not be a good thing for all you sound buffs but I don’t think the sound deters from the overall coolness of the game. There is very little talking in this game, actually the only talking comes from the fmv’s and even then there isn’t much, so I really cant comment on the voice acting.
Length/Replay: 6/10
On average this game takes just over 40 hours to beat, this game has 4 discs, so as you can see its a massive game. This game doesn’t really have to much in the way of replay value, but there are a few hidden suprises if you can find them. Throughout the game you can collect these little rocks called stardusts that can be found in various places throughout the game you can collect as many as 50 of them, and if you collect them all and give them to a certain person you will be able to fight a special boss near the end of the game, that gives you a massive amount of money and exp., if you beat him. I think the story is in this game is good enough for a replay or 2. This is the only rpg that I played through 5 times
This is one of the best games I have ever played, I am really hoping for a sequel to this game. This game easily rivals Final Fantasy 7, it may even be better. This is a must have for every rpg fan, even if you have never played an rpg before this is a great place to start.

First off, I hate every single character in this story - if there's a story. They're dumb, boring and superficial. I especially can't stand the ever annoying Dart. The story is interesting at first but quickly runs its course by the end of disc 2. By then u no longer care what happens next. When u stop caring about the characters that's pretty much it. But... this game has an amazing battle system - a biter of vagrant story but they picked the right game to bite. Which gives it a replay value which is rare for RPG's. I play this game entirely based on the battle system. Graphically - it's also very attractive. Thought I'm pleased w/ the battles - I'm certainly disappointed by the fact that the editors fail to pick up grammatical and spelling errors which were littered through out the game. Obtaining money is more of a chore than any other game I'v played. It could be quite frustrating especially if u want to get something that's ridiculously priced. All in all, this makes for a decent temporary distraction until the next ff. comes out.
If u like this game, u might also want to consider legend of legaia which is on the same vein. Dumb story, dumb characters but has a wicked battle system and environment.

Ok first of all i am a big final fantasy fan and always have been but when my friend told me about the legend of dragoon i couldnt bilive him when he told m,e how good it was so the week adfter that i whent out and got the game my self
it has a better story thn any other game i have ever played and is by far the greatest game i will ever play so all i can say is sony needs to keep up the good work.

u know... i play ff7 and LOD i believe that if you like the ff series then ull like LOD. it might not have the best graphics but it has good enough to keep it in the game.. no doubt some of the ff games have some very good graphics.. but take ff7 for instance.. in the end it leaves u in a pile of stars... i mean come on.. in the end of LOD it doesnt leave u hangin.... the charters are original.. the way the battles systems go.. i give them a 8/10 the. i would recomend the game to people that like the ff series. so.. with that off of my chest.. i dont really appericiate the people calling this game is crap.. u proabibly only say that because u never actually beat the game.. or maybe never could get the hang of the additions.. i donno but its a game worth while.. so if u really think the game is crap just keep it to ur self.. or put in it in better ways.. its not CRAP.. so thank u very much and i would really recommend this game to people that play ff and thats all i have to say.. c ya

gameplay, story, places, characters, what they wear, all so cool!
the story i especially love, i mean, Moon Child, Moon Objects, Black Monster, Moon That Never Sets, Dragoons, Dragons, Dragon Campaign, all fits the game style perfectly! The music is beatiful!whoever it was that couldn't stand it is SOOOO STUPID! the theme song was nice and the woman had a nice voice.

I really enjoyed playing the game.It had a really great storyline and i loved it. The additions were cool(especially gust of wind dance!) I really liked how the story all comes together so well. i wish people would stop sayin itz just like ff7. even if it waz, even though ff7 came up with it, dragoon would have made it much much much MUCH better. ff is oh k but ledgend of the dragoon is better and always will be. it is one of my fav. games along with 2 others. dragoon waz so awesome! game graphics were awesome and clear. i loved the music espellialy this opening song. i liked the sounds too. they were great and better than usual games. the fun part about the game is that dart is so in luv with shanna and won't admit it. some times i would scream JUST TELL HER!!!! no matter what people think i will alwayz think it is original. I think it will be worth something later on when it getz old!rose we forgive you!!!! Thatz one good line. Oh and Hashel...i luv you!! along with all of the other charicters.!! thiz really is the best game ever even though i have said it like 3 times!!! GO DRAGOONS!!!!

this game is great game other than its over rated rival final fantasy. if you love fantasy,dragons,and medievil stuff, or just love cool looking games, THIS IS A MUST BY:] The new addition attack system is incredible. not all of the additions are easy so you might need to buy a ultimate wargod.the graphics on this game are for the most part good, and the FMV's are beautiful.a must buy now !!!!!! oh and the dragoon transformation and attacks are awsome;)(:

TLOD is an awsome game. I played for the first time about 3 years ago and I could not stop playing it because fantasy games bring you into a whole new world full of intesity and just kick ass greatness!! I hope that the rumor of a 2nd LOD comes out for PS2 becuase I think it would be the greatest game ever made!!

This is a nice game. It's aimed at people of all ages that are able to stand role-playing games, and it is interesting enough to keep many people occupied. I can't find many things wrong with this game. Other than the Fury of Styx attack having three translations. (spelled two ways, said one way(Flurry of Styx!)) And I don't like the female love attraction in the game. Dart doesn't seem like the person to fall for someone like her. She's annoying and always in the way. But this doesn't affect the game. Other than the kissing scene... *shivers* I really don’t like her.
It has a wonderful plot, the graphics and sound are really good for a PS game and it’s one that can be played over many times. To top it off, it has a very interesting battle system. Sure, mastering the moves can take time, but if you can, you’ll find that it has also improved you hand-eye coordination a little bit.
But the ting I love most about the game is the face that you can see how close to another battle you are by the little triangle over your head. It’s a great feature and it’s to bad that it isn’t in more RG games.
The only thing then that is keeping it from a 10 rating is the translation problems as well as some spelling errors in the dialogue. I'm very picky about that sort of thing. This was a good game, but it's like the producers didn't care enough to make sure everything was perfect with it before they distributed it.
However, I definitely recommend this game to all RPG lovers.

Alright, let me say something about both games, granted both LOD and FF7 have a lot of similarities, but they also have a TON of differences! First off, LOD has something to do with Dragons, FF7 has to do with mako, and the Earth. Besides, FF7 had a lot less content and graphics then LOD. By far LOD leaves FF7 behind with its interactive battles, mind trials, and much more. I mean come on, when FF7 came out my brother was 11 and I was 16...I beat the game in one week and my brother, soon after, beat the game between two or three weeks, however, LOD took me between 3 or 4 months. Now keep in mind people, I am 21 and have been playing and beating video games since I was able to carry a hand full of quarters and push a bar stool at the age of two. So in all reality, video games come easy to me. My brother is still playing and he started before I did! LOD has better content, longer storyline, and is far more interesting. FF7 was the only one out of the two that didn't keep me asking, "when is the next one?" LOD, however, makes me think about it...all you see in the end is two dragon/dragoon eggs. Lets think about this, what happens to eggs eventually? THEY HATCH, so in the end Rose and Zieg shall re-emerge at sometime or another and the Dragoons that were left will be re-summoned into the gaming world, I know I want to hear about another one. But then again that is something that we are all entitled to, OPINIONS. So here is mine, to all of you who didn't care much of, or give good reviews- You LACK! Your skills suck and you are probably lonly. FF7 leaves to much to the imagination such as how Aries talks about someone she knew named "Zach" in the end I liked them both, FF7 gets a 5 and LOD gets a 10 seeing as how there aren't any 12s.

I was walking around in walmart and i was looking for a cheap adventure game,and i found it.By looking at the case i didnt think it would be very good.But when i played it it changed my mind.It reminds me alot of the final fantasy games.I didnt now what to think after i played it.All i can say is for those who dont like it you dont now what your missing, and for those who are about to buy the game once you pick it up you wont want to put it down.

I was walking around in Wal-Mart looking for a cheap adventure game and i found it.By looking at the case i didnt think i would like it very much,but i was mistaken.After i played it for a while i started to like it more and more.It reminds alot of final fantasy.Because of the weapon shops and the battle formations and also the characters personalities.But for the people who dont like the game you dont now what your missing,and the people getting ready to buy it once you pick it up you wont want to put it down.

The game of legend of Dragoons absolutly blow my mind. From the beganing, it defines the difinition for one of the best rpg in a while. Dart the main character can difinitly win the figh against the rivals of cloud in FF7. The best part was the movie after the encouter of ghost ship, if not the greatest movie in a rpg game's history. The game play, plot, graphics totally kick major < remove me > at $$!! And the ending would knock your socks off, you wouldn't find them again.The bosses offer some thinking and concentration, unlike some of the the other rpgs. For allll the gamers out there, GET THIS GAME, cause you will want to play over and over again, I played it for 55 times!!! Its true

ff7 is way better than this game eventhogh this game is good. A better understanding of roses past would be good and ff8 has better graphics and storyline. This story line was kind of boring since Dart didnt know what he was doing and rose takes too long in reaveling shes the black monster. If you want a cheat heres one get all the stardust and give it to the lady that tells you her daughter is sick and will get better with stardust. She will give you a key to fight the lasts boss's bodygaurd. After you defeat him you will get Darts strongest weapon and the strongest defense shield for dart also.

This game is one of the best games I have ever played. If you love RPGS like me and you don't have this game you need to get it I have beat this game sevral times but I never get board. The storyline is great and with the graphics it adds up to be an incredibul game. The battles are great and go with the sound really well. their is a lot of things that make this game unique like the additions I have mastered every one of them. Another thing is going Dragoon I have never seen anything like that. I know on some other games that have transformations but nothing like this. It is cool how at the beginning of the game you don't know anything that is going on but as you progess you learn every thing and even more. eack person has their own different Dragoon spirit exept dart who at the final boss gets another one.If you ask me the game has no downfalls but a lot of people disigree well either they haven't played it enough or just don't like parts and that makes their rating go down that sucks because I will always give this game a 10-10 and if I could I would give it an even higher rating.

First off I have played every ff game made people who say Dragoon is like ff7 are retards ff7 sucks major horse dick the graphics are sub standard in ff7 the characters are not at all alike news flash not every blond haired character in an rpg is cloud and how in the hell can people compare kongol to barret barret is a f< remove me > at #!ing pussy dart is much different from cloud and actually has a personality rose is interesting because of her mysterious background yeah there is a love story but most of the games I have played have a love story its like that because the programmers have to have at least a basic character goal and getting the girl at the end always works or the wouldnt put it in games loyld and whatever his name is one the difference is loyld wants a peaceful utopia he just uses evil as a means to an end the other guy is a backstabbing psycho who wants to destroy every thing I bought ff7 and dragoon the same day I played them both and I'm replaying dragoon again I havent picked up ff7 since because compared to dragoon it is a waste of money and time
its more walking around then anything the only complaint I have about dragoon is the music was annoying and that they compare it to ff7 that gives dragoon a bad name they are because dragoon makes ff look like crap
