Old school, but fun | | will u. cuddleme aka mr simpson from somewhere in the world says (12/Dec/2003): | This is a good game. it may not have the graphics were expecting but it was made back in 1995! I admit there are flaws in the game, such as most of the energy attacks being big balls with little tails instead of their being powerful beams, and the fact that you cant save, which makes it hard unlock SS4 goku and vegeta, along with Pan, but hey it has twice as many good points. You can choose from plenty of fighters from the show and even make them stronger by building them up in build up mode. you can also fight a character that your friend built up (i kick my friends ass every time with my level 125 gotenks, and he built him up the most). you can also fight with up to eight friends in the tournament mode. no, u dont need to have eight controlers, just two, and if you are playing with any friends then you could just have one controller and use the select button to switch your character between first and second player. The attack commands can be pretty hard but once you have them down, you cant stop playin the game, not to mention that it makes most of the other attack commands easier. Unfortunately the game doesnt have some key characters like Kid Buu, but it does have the almighty Gogeta. yes its Gogeta not vegeto. By calling him vegeto u are dissing him. Dont get me wrong, i like vegeto, its just that gogeta is stronger, better, and he can pimp slap people in the game (press x and square at the same time). Okay so the game doesnt have the best music. all i can say for that is, Deal With it jackass. the music is great but its not bad either. yeah the game has a few flaws, but dont forget it was made in 1995. and the only sad part here is that a game this old is better in most aspects, mainly fighting wise, than Budokai. Luckily there is Budokai 2. okay so the game isnt the best i understand that, but stop bitchin about it. Its very old, and for an old game i think its great, especially since the japanese voices are a nice little change for once. Sometimes the american voice actors make goku and vegeat sound constepated. I like the guy who does gohans voice from the buu saga and during Dragonball Gt. he doesn't sound constepated, he has a nice smooth voice, dont worry im not gay, so dont get that idea in your head. yeah the game does have a few flaws but they fixed that. its called Budokai 2. so just cause we bitch about it doesnt mean that the are gonna make a second copy just for us. get this game if u have PSone and Budokai 2 if you have PS2. Its a good game, its worth your money, and if you dont believe me rent it (good lick getting a copy, most people take them out with that gay gamers card that lets you keep games for ever). Its a good game, go get a copy, dont be lazy and try to get use to the game, and make sure you go outside every now and then. you play the game for 6 hours striaght your mind will go blank and youll become stupid (luckily it wont affect me, my mind is always blank). So stop giving the game a bad review, its old damnt! Most imprtantly, get a copy and have fun playing one of the best games the 90's had to offer.
| It's alright..... | | Paul from Modesto, CA, USA says (31/Mar/2003): | This game looked pretty cool to me at first, it had all the things i wanted in a dbz game. i had already long known about the game from the internet and was excited to finally get my hands on it here without importing it. the fighting engine is somewhat similar to a capcom fighting game only very watered down. if you have played through a couple street fighters you wont find anything terribly exciting in this game. it can keep u entertained for awhile just because you get to see some of your favorite dbz characters duking it out. graphically the game is below average even for the playstation era. the backgrounds try to add some sort of 3d flavor to the game but are pretty empty in most stages. the characters look pretty good, about as nice as you would expect from the time this game was made. while maybe not up to the quality of later playstation games it still is easy to tell which character is which. many people ive heard complain aboutt he game being 2d it is that way because at the time the 2d fighting games were much superior to any 3d fighting game at the time. 2d gamin is classic and it is great to get some of this old school feel back into my daily gaming but it definetely should have been better. the sound isnt as dissapointing as many have said. the music is pretty quiet for the most part and the voices are all the actual japanese voice actors which makes it feel more real to a die hard dbz fan. the game will busy for quite some time with its build up mode but it offers no story mode which in my view is a major let down. until dragonball final bout is rereleased you should at least check this out i mean it is only 20 dollars anyway so you wont miss the cash all that much. of course if your looking for a real dragonball game it may be best to wait the coming announcments of the new dbz games from activision or pick up budokai which is another average game but on a more powerful piece of hardware so all you graphic freaks can get ur fi of good looking 3d gaming there. i guess the bet way to sum all this up is i bought the game 4 days ago played it quite a bit and ive pretty much done all there is to do besides make characters stronger which gets old fast but while it lasts it can be a fun little game.
| ONE OF THE BEST DRAGONBALL GAMES EVER | | Annonymous from Newcastle, England says (15/Jul/2003): | This game is not only easy to grasp and loyal to the cartoon show, but unlike the other reviews, I think that the techniques are easy to do. The kamehameaha is just 'square four times and circle'. The other techniques may be hard to do but once you pick them up, almost every character has the same buttons to do the same kind of move, so you aren't just good with one character but all of them. What also helped me like the game is that the music they picked, seemed to match the game and the emotions of the characters, unlike some of the other dbz games, but the thing that made this game a little bit crappy was the voices of the characters. Although they had subtitles, (which were never even proper Engilsh anyway) it being in Japenese made it rather weird, and the high pitchness of the voices made the chracters seem weak and pathetic. For example, when you first complete the game and Gohan finally destroys Cell, you hear Gohan say he is gonna die and then, like the carton Goku speaks, and its a sad but brave moment, but with the game the voice of Goku made me laugh rather then be serious. The only other bad things for me, are the fact that it ends at the Cell Saga. That was a complete mistake because not only does it make the story mode shorter, but Majin Buu is obviously the best character in the whole game. He is so cool and funny, (I mean just look at him, a big fat pink baby and yet he is so strong he could kill you by breathing) and he should have been put in, not only that but in taht saga there's about 10 different buu's (majin buu, evil buu, strong evil buu, buu absorbed gotenks, buu abosorbed piccolo, buu absorbed gohan, hulking buu (after abosrbing the South supreme Kai) and then there's kid buu, and if you want to think of it like that, Uub is also a buu.) and then there's vigito and gotenks, I mean if they had of added the buu saga then this game would have been the best I have ever played. Another thing that annoyed me was the graphics as they could have been a tad more realistic but other wise the characters, gameplay and story make this dragonball gme probably the best one ever and I would certainly go out and buy it as the good opinions totally outway the bad ones.
| Very excellent 2-D classic! | | Game Samurai from Claremont, USA says (25/Apr/2003): | This is a great game, it has the classic 2-D Street Fighter action and fun. Of all of the games I have played, this is one of my favorites. I owned this game for sometime now, and there is no way for me to discard it. There are many fighters to choose from for 'Build Up' mode and create a beasty character. The game even lets you also choose to fight as Kame-son, Chibi Son-Goku, Super Saijin 3 Son-Goku, Vegitto, and Mr. Satan. I love Kame because of his Kame-hama-ha waves and his signature move: the Double After Image. Kame-son even fights with his 'Crazy Cow Techniuqe' (American translation.) I find Mr. Satan more of a novelty character due to his comical fighting style and his Ki based fighting moves. For example: The rocket launcher, the atomic bomb, the bazooka, and the stick grenade. I find Mr. Satan's way of "powering up his Ki" very funny. As for the other three extra fighters, (Mr. Satan and Kame-son can't fly)can fly and have the normal fighting atributes as real Ki (Mr. Satan) and have multiple major power moves that is more than 2(Kame-son). The game also has really great realism from the game. For example: when Capt. Ginyu of the Ginyu force (I love his dance and his comrades dance that introduced them to Frieza on Namek)performed his 'Body Change Techniuqe' on another fighter, you must hope for the beam to hit your opponite. Like when Capt. Ginyu used this techniuqe on Vegita, he hoped that the beam would hit. Instead, Ginyu turned into a Namekian frog (snicker) because Son-Goku used the frog as a projectile so Capt. Ginyu couldn't turn into another Z Fighter or other person. All I can say is that the only problem of this game is that Andriod 19 (I loved his creepy voice in the American DBZ) and Evil Kid Buu (for some reason I think of a monkey in Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout[when you pick him for fighting] for the Playstation) aren't playable. All in all, this is one of the best games I have ever played. :D

this game can become up to 8 players if you play Championship where you and 7 of your friends fight the computer and eachother. The more placement you get, the more harder the COM will be.
Did you know that Trunks can become Normal? If you exhaust his ki Bar, He wont be a Super saiyan anymore. the thing that makes it good is that your always super saiyan or in your perfect form. i mean I hate it when you have to power up to gauge 5 just to become a super saiyan on budakai one. Another thing that makes it almost equal is that in the championship mode you can't be knocked out of the ring. Majjin Buu is just so funny. When he's out of Ki he doese this funny dance:) But the sad fact remains that It dosn't have Mystic Gohan, Kid Buu, or Broly :( Instead of Mystic Gohan they have Gt.Saiyaman. But the cover does say "macth ups form the Buu saga." so i guess they didn't include people form the Kid Buu or Fussion sagas. If you play just for graphics , than you not a true gamer. It's addicting and in the Bulid up mode, you can level up a charrecter of your dessire so he will have more health and power than any other person. Majjin Buu is at Lv.19 now.

The Music on the game was soooooooo dang boring and weak that i had to tune the volume off just to play the game but they did have one stage music that was good but that was only on Kamies look out point Stange fighting Gotenks and on the roof top stage when you fight against Gohan when he dressed up lookin like a broke superhero wit tv antennas sticken out his helmet. And They messed up on frezza's look. He walkin around wit his arms open like he need a hug. And one thing that was really messed up and the main reason i got rid the game Is that the The Japanese version type of Dragon ball Z is Disgusting. You can tell the the maker of Dragon Ball Z was most likly a fool. In the Japanese version type of Dragon ball Z They have characters in there having the name Satan and God but in the American version they wouldn't have it in their Animation of DBZ So they change the name MR.Satan to Hercual and they changed they other one from God to some other name but Dragonball Z Ultimate Battle 22 has the Japanese version type of Dragon ball Z. I have seen the Japanese version type of Dragon ball Z they had a whole stadium chanting SATAN! SATAN! SATAN! in the Martial arts tournament. And the game play of Dragonball Z Ultimate Battle 22 isn'r good really. This game is really made for DBZ fanatics. Only they can see this game as hard, tight , and whatever esle etc. This game isn't all that good , don't fooled bye thr reviews. Well, You know what I mean. I must admit, I did buy this game being the dragonball fan that I am. And I must say this, This game is absolutly horrible. Sure, You can use other Characters you cannot on DBGTFB or Budokai. And That is the only reason why it's getting a three. That game has Hard to do moves, Not easy at all. You'll end up with blisters on your fingers before you get a move off. And, Not only is that fustrating enough. The Game itself is fustrating.. AND!! On top of that... Gogeta was named Vegetto. ... ... That annoys me to no end. The Graphics and sound hey, they aren't bad at all. It's just the gameplay and the 'Vegetto' thing that is urking enough. If You must play it... Rent it. Do not buy it first... If you are a DB fan and adding it to your collection. Go for it. But a gamer that wants a good fighting game. UB22 isn't the game for that. Honestly, If you want better... Go play Street Fighter II. Don't waste your money or time on this game. It will only leave you frustated to no end... | UB22 is cool, but it isn't the best | | vegeta's final flash from Bruges , Belgium says (9/Oct/2002): | i think that ub22 is a cool game, but to say that i love it, no first the game is more arcade than simulation, i mean that u just battle, that's all, not even a story mode.and it was recently re-released, that's where bought it, here's the part that dissapoints me most: in the first released game, u had a video clip of the characters before u battled, now it's gone, when u fight a battle also in the series, there was shown a clip of the series, like gohan vs cell. that's gone too. i remeber this 'cuz i played the game 6 years ago at a japanese friend's house(his game was entirely in japanese). now the good parts of the game : the graphics are very good, i must say, i especially like it cuz it's in 2D, like in the series, but i don't care about the background being in 3D, who cares?? people say that very often, they also say that the fireballs suck, WHO CARES??? if they dislike the details, that means they don't want a fighting game, they just want a pretty one, how lame. another good thing are the characters, so many, that's very cool,
but if they had given the characters a few more moves( like in superbotuden2), that would have been great, and if they had added a story mode, it would it have been the bomb. so if u are u dbz fan , get this game, and don't go off looking at the details like the 2D characters in a 3D background,or crappy fireballs, cuz if u do, u will hate this game.if u are a fan, get it , if u aren't don't get it, cuz if u don't have a clue of what dbz is, ub22 is the worst fighting game for u, not for the fans though

The music is kind of funky but it also fits the game pretty well at the same time. In the beginning, don't be ashamed that you can't do any moves besides kick, punch, fly, and fire. The moves are pretty hard to master but when you master them, you'll like them. I mean i had to practice an hour to master it and it hurt my thumb for the first day. On the second day, since i got better, my thumb hurt less and less. You do the moves kind of the same i mean if you master one of them, you master all of them. Example: Kamahamaha: back,down, forward, and circle. The cheat does work but you have press it in very fast and i mean very fast!!! The characters all have 1 special move that is very hard to master like tien for example turns into 2 and attach you. I only know that supreme kai's special move is down,forward,up,back and circle. The move is when he slings you up and down and then blows you up. it does a fair amount of damage for a special move, but it wastes only 1/4 of his energy. it might take you a few tries to actually do it though. If you play it with a friend, you'll really like it. If not, then you have to be a dragonball friend to like it.

| Best DBZ game ever | | Jeffrey from Birmingham, Alabama, USA says (19/Sep/2004): | People say this game sucks, this is just because they are too idiotic to figure out the controls. I have learned every move in the game, literaly. The most challenging were Gotenks' Kamikaze Ghost and Vegeto's ultimate box attack (half circle back half circle forward, he roles and punch tons of times, slaps, appears in the background of the stadium and lights the screen with a Chou Kamehameha Wave). I've been playing this game since October of last year, and it still rocks. Anyone who say's otherwise is either an amature gamer or a non-dbz fan.
GRAPHICS - 4/10
The graphics may not be that great, but you have to look over that to see the true greatness of this game.
SOUND - 8/10
The sound is basically perfect for this game, I love it.
GAMEPLAY - 10/10
Perfect, Budokai has nothing on this game.
ATTACKS - 9/10
Some are dull, but seeing Vegeto's ultimate box attack is realy amazing.
REPLAY VALUE - Great, most fighting games are ver replayable as well, but this one I may never get tired of.
OVERALL GAMEPLAY - 9/10
Smooth hard-core fighting. Stree Fighter-esque, with jumps, dodges, and blocks. Great music, great playability, but no actual story mode... look over the story mode part and it is a perfect game!

This is definately got to be one of the best Dragonball Z games and one of the best Playstation games I've ever seen. The selection of fighters is great ! (Like Shin, Krillin, Android 18, Android 16, Goku, Trunks, Gotenks, Tien, Piccolo, Majin Buu, Frieza, Recoom, Captain Ginyu, Great Saiyanman, Vegeta and other great fighters).
The game is super cool. I was hoping the fighters were in 3D but they were in 2D but I doesn't really matter. The characters look awesome even in 2D. There great songs. The fighters talk Japanese and can't understand them but who cares. I wonder what they are saying ? But this is not the point. My point is the game is lethal and it has great sounds and it has a great story mode with great songs and great levels like in the future Trunk's
timeline in the future with mass destruction left behind by the Androids. The detials of the levels are awesome. I recommend this game to Dragonball Z/GT fans. This is the game for you. Get it the fun will never end. You'll enjoy it so much you wouldn't want to put down the controller. It would make a great christmas gift or even a great birthday gift. The gameplay doesn't hurt, but they should get a story mode at least. Other than that, this game kicked serious butt! I loved the selection of charecters, and the way they have the original japenese voices. The fact that they had buu, super buu, Gotenks,
and S.S.3 Goku blew my mind! I love making classic showdowns between charecters, such as buu against goku, vegeta against goku, buu against gotenks, and others like that. I love this game along with other dbz titles. Nowadays, kids only care about graphics. I think otherwise. I like games I can have a good time with. I also like the classic game music. I just have to say that this game has a good amount of value. The tournaments are very amusing to me, because I like the japenese-voiced announcer and the charecter voices during the battles. This is an almost all-around good game. Other downsides include th energy balls, which are orange, look exactley like the Ka-Me-Ha-Me-Ha wave , which is blueish-white. I also think that you shouldn't get bigger when you fly upwards into the air while the opponent is still on the ground. I hoped you liked my review!

This vintage Dragon Ball z fighter features 22 famed DBZ warriors for you to recreate one-on-one epic battles. Easy to play, but tough to master, this long awaited masterpiece offers mathchups from the Buu, Freiza and android sagas. This game is awesome. The movie in the beginning is awesome and the fact that you actually can do codes is sweet! The music for this game is a little creepy but you can ignore it. Your lifespan is short, only because it is very hard to do any special attacks, but once you memorize them it is a peice of cake. The orignality is ok, because it took eight years to get over here from Japan it is still good and worth buying. If you are a die hard dbz fan than buy this game. These are all the playable characters. Goku, Gohan, Goten, Kid Trunks, Gotenks, Trunks, Piccolo, Krillin, Tien, Great Saiyaman, Supreme Kai, Vegeta, Zarbon, Recoome, Captain Ginyu, Frieza, Android 18 (Girl android), Android 16, Cell, Dabura, Majin Buu and Super Buu. You can even get non-majin Vegeta, ssjPan, Master Roshi, Kid Goku, ssj3 gotenks, Nappa, Raditz, ssj3 Goten and ssj3 Goku.

The moves are to complicated, there are not enough modes. Just about the only good thing about this game is the wide-range of characters it has to offer. It's a waste of time, money, and memory card space for that matter. I don't know, I play it about once every..... two months. This is by far one of the worst games I have ever played in my life. This game is also right there with Crash Bash, which is also the kind of crap this game delivers. It has really, really bad game play, the graphics are one of the worst ever, and the stages stink. The controls are too complicated and it takes way too long to load. Don't waste you're money, time, and memory card space on this game folks, this game is a rotten egg cracked open and shoved up you're nose. This is a gruel and butter sandwich stuffed down you're throat and left unchewed and rock-solid in you're stomach. Over-all, this game is about as much fun as a poke in the eye. Yes, I'm done and I am sorry to those I offended who think that this worthless piece of work is even considered a game.

Everybody can laearn how to play UB very quickly, and easy. The controls are very easy to confirm and remember.
In the beginning, I was very excited about the Build-Up mode. But after all, it didn't turn out to be a good mode. It becomes boring very quickly. I didn't even possess the game myself and I was the first one out of 7 players who had a character with it's max level: a 125 Android #18.
No, I prefer the Tournament section. You can punch computers and other players to crud there and you recieve honor if you win. I also was the first one out of 7 players to win a tournament playing with who I simply call the best: Tenshinhan.
The games'graphics are very cool and good looking, and the voices and sounds are great too! The voices are even the same as the real, original Japanese voices of all the characters!(in the series, I mean.)
And of course there are characters I like, and characters I greatly dislike, but I like Tenshinhan, Kuririn and #18 the best of them all.

I even wish that a self- detenation button was included so it would save me the time for buying matches. Ik, I know software writers can do better than this, but hey, idiots are idiots, but DBZ should not fall into the hands of 3yr olds wanting to make a slow, sucky combo, worthless game for sheer 3 min emjoyment. Listen to me, this game IS NOT WORTH BUYING AND SHOULD BE OVERLOOKED IF AT ALL POSSIABLE DUE TO THE SORRY GRAPHIC NATURE OF THIS GAME. Good luck at trying to relate to the backgrounds and the gameplay also. The backgrounds suck, the sound sucks, the gameplay sucks, hmmmmmmm and did I mention the GAME SUCKS?
Well, buy it if your a DIE HARD fan, and when you play this game I think you will die because It isn't much a site to look at, I mean the game might have been better if the PS2 console took hold of it and shot the previous software writers but hey, thats my opinion. And for a last thought, I think they made this game for a last ditch effort to sucker little children into buying a so called "GREAT GAME"........ yeah right, how sadistic......

They didn't include kid buu, android 17, and transformations of cell and freiza. But no, they had to be stupid and make them separate like goku he was ssj then you had to get another person like ssj 3 goku.
Well anyway all I am trying to say is the makers of it needs to actually watch DragonBall Z. They should send everyone sorry note for wasting their money on it, and you should send the people who bought this game a refund through the mail.If they ask me to bye this game and they'd give me a hundred dollars I still wouldn't have bought this game.The people have the dumbest moves i could think of.The move names aren't even labeled right,anyway.So to the people who don't have this game yet,don't buy it!This is the worst BragonBall Z game I've ever seen.To think about it,it is the dumbest game ever!It is the most vomatrousis game in history.The z warriors can't even go past ssj.At least on DragonBall Z Budokai you can choose the moves that your warriors know.If you ask me, i'd give this game a zero.

I came home and played for 5 minutes and realize how stupid this game was. Even the tittle sucks. Dragonball Z Ultimate Battle 22 is a game to waste money on. If you have spare cash and was thinking of getting this game, then you just plan dumb like me. Theres nothing fun about this game. I rather shove my thumb up my ass then play this game again. The only good dragonball Z game out there would have to be Hyper Dimension. The fighting kick ass and the voices sorda do to. But please, and please dont waste your money on something so stupid like ultimate battle 22. Spend it on candy or something. What ever you do, dont get this game. I'll write it again. DOT GET THIS GAME!!! I think i almost written 200 words now. Um ya, dont get this game. Graphics 2, Sound 1, gameplay 1, ect. The controlls for this game also suck to. Theres only three buttoms you use for the whole intire game.
