I know the graphics were kind of corny, but man, I thought that it had the best story line, character abilities, and it was just an all around awesome game!!!!! Just a tip ; pick rena instead of claude, claude doesn't get as good people as rena. Have fun with this game, I did...

This game is awesome, actually the whole series is awesome, the first one was one SNES, great game, the second is this one, with 86 different ending, not 30 or 40 as mentioned. the max level you can acheive is not limited to 99, you can go all the way to Level 999!!!!! WOW!!! I know I had Claude " one of the main charcters" at lvl 999. Take my advice and play Claude if you are a guy, way cooler but a little harder. The point is that Rena may get slightly better charcters but as Claude you can become so powerful so fast that before you reach the 3rd town you can whip anyone in the game! I was at level 102 before the tidal wave destoy the city! It is possible just read stadegy guides. ANYWAY I rate this series as the greatest RPG's ever! A must have for any serious gamer!

This game is awesome. It's from enix and tri ace which made the beautiful game of Valkyrie Profile for the PSone. I love the game play. It is so capturing. I played the game for a whole afternoon once! The story is cool,the graphics are very old school ( just how I like em ),great character designs with over 12 in all,tons of different endings 80 in total, multiple side quests to keep the fun coming! A creative skill system learnig to play music,write books,cook,even learn the ability to lower the prices in stores or sell stock for more. This game is very innovative with this much unique qualities this game is great addition to your collection.

Let me tell you, this is the best RPG I've ever played. The 2d graphics along with 3d backgrounds give this game a nice, cozy. old-school feel.
The gameplay is just... awesome. 2 discs of well thought out gameplay. There are side quests, different charcters, and you can even enter things like COOKING COMPETITIONS!
Speaking of characters, they are hilarious. And, the relationships developed between them are very... dramatic.
The fighting is the absolute best I've played in any RPG. Colorful magical spells, and vaious weapons with various effects.
The weapons in this game are very detailed and affect the game greatly. There are hundreds of weapons, whether it be a sword, to a whip, to even knuckles, they are EXTREMELY unique for any game.
You're probably thinking, "WOW 2 discs is really hard!" It's not. That's not a bad thing, because you can do literally EVERYTHING in this game. I.e. Go to amusement parks, enter a fighting tournament, even enter an Iron Chef competition!
The BEST thing about this game is the music. It is THE MOST beautiful music I've ever heard. Not just for a game, but ANYWHERE! different scenes result in different music. The music matches the mood. If you're fighting, then there's hard, forceful music. If you're in a forest, the music has a sudden mystique.
Tell your friends about this game, because it ROCKS!

For any one who complains about the graphics on this game should just drop there control and stop playing rpgs NOW!!! this game may be lacking graphics but the game play AMAZING the extra stuff you can do INCREDIBLE and the replay value... AWSOME so if you think the reason this game is bad than your not a true rpg fan. so for all of you who dont own this game GO BUY IT by now itz only like 20$ think of this as less than .30 cents per ending

This RPG is one of a kind. I has an old school look & original music that may be annoying and first, but as you go through the first two hours of talking, it sort of grows on ya. If you got some extra cash, go buy it, it's well worth the time if your looking for something unique & retro.

Get this game! Sure the graphics are a tad on the corny side, yet the character Dias is so cool. I can't get enuf of his air slash and chaos sword. When my friend got me hooked on this great RPG game, I kept playing till my game system nearly overheated! the and originality are awesome. Also, when you fight the ten wise men, they have their own cool music. The controls can be at the tricky side at first( when I started, I kept pressing the wrong attack button to use the phase gun!) The thing that all RPG games have that I always love is PUZZLES.I haven't beaten the game yet but I can't wait to see my ending.

This game is so good, the people are 2d and talk alot but thats adds to the story line, On games like the final fantasys you get to lvl 99 or 100 and thats it on this your can go to well over 180 and after that you have lots of skills to master like flip and run behind your enemy and hit him or even cooking so you get food that can heal you, the ending i will not tell you to much but its half FMV and half just a cutscene but you get about 30+ different endding and can get about 10 different people plus some extras to find, if you are going to buy a Rpg make sures its this one!!!

I don't care if the charter are olny 2-d and if they talk it is the best because it is interactive battle and the possible 40+ endings and you can get many differnt charters so it is very worht it to get it.

This RPG is incredibly cool! This game gives RPG players many different side quests and mini quests that they can choose from.
Star Ocean gives players the choice to create their own items from character abilities. The graphics aren't all that bad, actually pretty good compared to Final Fantasy Anthology. But the thing that makes this game stand out from the others, are all of the endings! From the choices you make and the events you participate in, "unfold" into a certain ending. Since there are so many choices, you can view around 80+ possible endings!
The only thing I found wrong with this game, would have to be the music. They could have made the music in battles (etc.)could have been more invigorating.

O.k... the grpahics may be a little primitive, but the plot is superb. This is one of those RPGs that you can play over and over again and never lose intrest. It's a hundred different games in one and there are 80 different endings. You will totally love this game...ignore what that other dude said.

The graphics although 2d seem to suit the game as it has a whole range of music and ideas that could not be shown in any other way. It is simple or complex depending on how you play and so you are in total control. You can see what characters are doing in Private Action and become atached to their development. You actually create your own items and weapons and can customise almost anything. Loads of side quests and over 80 endings make this game a masterpiece. You create your team and send them into battle where free movement takes place rather than the standard turn based battle system of most RPG's. Magic spells are a burst of colour and animations as they fill the screen and attack the enemy or heal the party. Nothing in this game can be faultered apart from the graphics, even though they look a little shabby a first but you begin to forget and then it all takes off. You can also start with one of two characters and so there is replay value in that you can replay to hear the other side of the story. Set over 2 disks and this includes many towns and cities on two different worlds. The cutscenes are also superb, I have never seen andy that look so good on playstation. And also if you play hard you may discover secrets as this game has no end. Metaphorically speaking!

sure, the people on the screen do look cheap, but that is not what the game is about. period! it is mostly about the story that goes with it that is the reason that they talk a lot. it is one of the most original rpg games I ever played, there are so many choices of what you can do, where you can go, and how you can battle. there are many skills you can choose to learn to help you out along the game,there are over 50 endings so the game is never the same twice. i loved the game and ill play it over and over.

The music is enchanting,and I love the battle scenes,plus the freedom to make things and combine items as well.You can go anywhere,everywhere,once you get the ability to.This game is #1 in the RPG games.The characters are great too.Even the graphics.They may look old school,but trust me,they are great,especially the Intro.Forget Final Fantasy,Star Ocean is the best.

This game is a complete desception for me as Ive read that it was such a cool game and decided to buy it. OH! but its not what you want in any way. Its just talking all the game long and low tech, low polished battle style. I personnaly am not a rpg super fan but always liked them. Please do you a favor and dont get this novel, insted buy some book like the da vinci code or something that will be more enjoyable.
Music is boring and n64 type, graphics nothing compared to Kingdom hearts or any good rpg out there (contemporarily I mean), for gameplay theres tooooo much talking to be fun and it makes a long for it and nothing more as battles last for 20 or 30 seconds. Fun factor is very low for a video game, or medium level for a book, and for replay value i thik this is not a game to replay ever since its so long that youll burn your eyes in the first time for the long reading.
