This game is totally gut wrenching and trust me it will scare the hell out of youdunable to play unless someone else was in the house I even had to put a night light in my room. It has one great story line and there are a $#< remove me > at ! load of them to go through.

what can i say. another master piece from konami brillant
know i hated Resident Evil just because of the opening door sequences. i loved Metal Gear Solid and i thought i woudl never find another game that would get me hooked like i was on MGS. however i did Silent Hill your worst fears realised, nice and good not too taxing but another to make you think. KONAMI hurry and make another good game like MGS and Silent Hill i cant wait

i love games like this i played silent hill on ps 1 after borrowing it from a friend after that i was hooked i have played sh 2 on ps 2 and x box and am now on sh 3 on ps 2 , i have only just started playing it so cant really say what i think about sh 3 but if the first one is anything to go by i will enjoy it without a doubt .

I am a extreme fan of the Resident Evil(RE) and Silent Hill(SH) horror servival series. I have beat both four times already and I am about to beat both of them a fifth time. The graphics on both are modest, good but could be better. The sound affects on both are modest. The special affects are modest to. All in all though its a really cool game to play. Also if your looking to be scared stiff, have nightmares, become a bed wetter for a decent amount of time. I suggest playing SH home alone, volume turned up, with all the lights turned out. Trust me it works. If your looking for a cheap thrills and chills ride play RE. I played RE before I played SH so I became hooked on that first but now I am hooked on SH.

this game is awesome..unlike resident evil this game is much more scarier.much more scarier if you play it alone and in a dark place at night.the graphics are cool and simple...the puzzles are fun and enjoyable to solve.im realy thrilled when fighting those insects and at first i was panic when i was outnumbered by these monsters.its also fun when u beat up nurses using that hammer or chain saw.every time i finish the game i get excited to what will hapen in the next fear....its cool...

I played this game a long ass time ago but I thought I should add my review cuz this game is freakin' cool! yeah, move over Resident Evil cuz Silent Hill is here to kick your ass!! This game is soo cool. the way the fog and the distorted music makes everything look so scary. and the nurses the way they walk. I specially like cuz the game focuses on the theme of the occult and the games shows you what heel looks like. Everything is rusted, the floor is a chain linked fence with a bottomless pit under it, monsters and oh yeah...the darkness....I like the whole radio thingy too. this game is much better than SH2 cuz you actualy fight bosses. I bet the geniouses behind this game are inside an Asylum cuz this game is disturbing. Keep it up KONAMI!

This game was truly exiting im normaly a fan of driving games only but when my cousin gave me the game it blew my mind how much i liked it it is the most complicated game ive ever played but with the best story line and the characters are also pretty cool my two favorite characters were harry and d.r kaufman it is the best game ive played.

I love this game. I went to a video game store asking for a good surival horror game and the worker handed me this. I listened to his review on it, thought it sounded good and took it home. It blew my mind. I am a big Resident Evil and Parasite Eve fan, but none of them have scared me as much as this one. It was very extremely original, and very interesting. This is one of my favorite games.

Ever been really scared before? Well if u play this game you willbe. I bought htis game and thought everyone was just saying all that stuff about keep the lights on and everything!!! I FOUND OUT THE HARD WAY!!!! I was compleltley horrified during my time playing this game. I wouldnt go into any room without turning on a light. The mist and darkness in the game get into your head and you cant get it out... after a while it seems like your really there...It takes you over...I love the game...It's the best horror game ive played...I recommend it highly

I first encountered the original Silent Hill after my PS stopped reading Resident Evil. I borrowed it from a friend, who said it disturbed him too much. I became instantly fascinated and I guess you could say, obsessed and eventually the friend just let me keep it. As a screenwriter and artist, this game has been truly inspiring in the horror genre. The writers of this game are truly genius' - they don't rely on a lot of blood and heads flying off to make it scary. Silent Hill is disturbing like the old horror movies are - getting into our psyches and making us look in our periferal vision. The static of the radio causes our hearts to race in anticipation; much like the infamous chello warnings of "Jaws." (da-da....da-da...you know what I'm talking about.)The town calls the tormented souls to it and seems to be alive with the anguish of others, revealing the aweful truth of their pasts... I've devoted a website to this called "Silent Hill - The Alluring Nightmare." E-mail me for a link or join the club on Lycos. I highly recommend this game to anyone looking to scare the bejeezus out of themselves...then come back for more!

Think we're joking?! This is one game you really have to play with the lights on... the atmosphere of the game takes any player to a sense of paranoia; the static hiss of the radio that seem to linger in your ears, the seemingly endless mist that hinders your game vision, and the feeling of uncertainty whenever one opens a new door, or walk thru a new street... RE started the Survival-Horror genre, but has not brought up the level of fear for players to actually 'be in the game', but with Konami's rendition for this field, the creator of this great game have indeed 'scared the living daylights'! Added features for the game not found in RE are the additional twists of each puzzle/puzzle piece in every point of the map (a far cry from crate-pushing), when one collects the new weapons (chainsaw and rayguns!), and the chance to know why UFO's seem to favor the misted corners of Silent Hill. This game is a must for those who think Survival-Horror games are just a walk-in-the-park, just be sure you're ready... whenever you hear radio static...

Scary? Yeah! Challenging? You Bet! Replay value? Tons!!! Resident Evil does not even offer a tenth of what this game gives on the first go around. The background music and sounds make a wonderful setting for what happens. Even when you expect something to happen, it's still a surprise when it does! Just don't expect to get much rest either while playing or even after. This game left me with the feeling of being watched and followed even after I turned it off! The puzzles are NOT as simple as moving a box! Between the mist and the darkness (especially in the fairgrounds and the hospital!) the overall setting of the game keeps you guessing and jumping in startlement even at the slightest sound! The rock drill and the UFO ending is unexpected and delightful! The additional weaponry that is gained from replay is great! Well worth the price to pay and play!

Yes, I liked titles like RESIDENT EVIL but there was always something missing, definetly. Some sick elements that are challenging your mind, not only your stomach. Ya felt the same? There's the solution:
Silent Hill is driving you mad. That's what the makers wanted: confuse you, drive you mad, make you feel sick and lost. Yo they succeeded! Once I had to play it throught in one piece. That needs patience but the thrill never ever stops and in the end I was stuck there in my dreams... In RE I used to hate those walking-throught-door-sequences: you (half-dead) could run to a door, followed by an army of zombies and then open the door as if you'd have all the time in the world which is absoltutly Atmosphere-boiling and boring...
This time it's one fluid... scary and damned confusing. You are lost between two worlds and the moment comes when you can't tell anymore, where you originally belonged. This game is only required to adults. (same with all RE-Titles... I wouldn't let my kids play such games...!)

I think this is the best game kanomi has ever made since Metal Gear Solid. Controls handle perfectly as well as good graphics. Would recomend to others. I gave this a ten you should too!! So go buy it NOW!!!!!

This is a game that still gets heavy rotation in my PSX even after having it for over a year and beating it multiple times. I feel that this game hasn't gotten the recognition that it deserves, so I will give it a more complete breakdown.
GRAPHICS- Bear in mind that this game is over a year old. It still represents itself nicely in terms of character modeling, and the FMV footage is quality(I found the outtakes at the end to be great). The fogging effect is used masterfully. The buildings are nicely detailed, and give the city a more 'real' feel. The fact that it was fully 3D was another thing I was really pleased with. Enemies are well detailed, and can give you the creeps (especially when the radio goes off, and you don't see them, and you are low on health). The atmosphere created in this town is desolate and it's perfect. (8.0)
CONTROL- I own all three Resident Evil games and love 'em, but my main gripe with that game was control. One of the worst designs for character control I've encountered. Silent Hill improves on this nicely. The fact that you can move the camera around really helps. Harry Mason isn't a great shot, and the fact that he is a regular guy with ordinary skills makes the game much more appealing and real to me. (8.0)
SOUND- Great use of sound here. Not much music, but when called upon, it sets the stage for the bizarre, tragic atmosphere in Silent Hill. Most of the sound is ambient background noise, but it is used better in this game than any other game in this genre that I've played. Voice acting is also better than most games I've played (though not up to par with a game like Soul Reaver). Some have complained about the noise of the radio. However, to properly experience the tension of confrontation in this game, it must be used. (8.0)
REPLAY- Better than most I've played in this genre. At least five different endings to this game. There is a rumor out there on the net about a sixth ending that involves you being able to use the glucose and distilled water as an explosive to unlock the parking lot door in the hospital, but I haven't uncovered it yet (please let me know if you find it). The weapons gained in Next Fear are great.(9.0)
STORY- This is where this game seperates itself from the pack. Resident Evil games can give you a good scare, but when I played this game at night with the lights off, it messed with my mind. The anticipation of what lies ahead was driving me nuts. What happens to many of these characters is really tragic. Resident Evil had good story lines, but this game borrows from stories like Rosemary's Baby, The Shining, The Mist, Twin Peaks, and Psycho to name a few. When it's all put together, it's a masterpiece of a story. It took my a LONG time to piece it all together, but for those of you who can't fill in all of the blanks, check out absoluteplaystation.com faq section, they have a great plot guide. This was my favorite part of the game.(10.0)
OVERALL- This is a game that to me is still a joy to play, and will not disappoint if you haven't yet. A very dark and surprising storyline. A great videogame experience. (9.0)

This was one of those games when you play at first, you think, wow, what an amazing game this is!!! Then when you go back to think about it, you come to the realization that it wasn't actually that good. I mean, if you think about it, other than the voice and plot, what else really made the game good? The music that repeated itself 100 times? Or was it the pathetic little dogs and flying whatever the hell it was that kept showing up. The variety of enemies and weapons were limited and that's where I really snapped. And also, I was annoyed with how short the game was. The goods of this game included how the mysterys actually had to be solved with some clues unlike RE 1,2,3 in which you had no idea what to do next. Also, the reply value of this game was maybe 2, 3 maximum 4 times. Overall, this was a good game at the time of its release but come to think of it, aren't games just too good now to have to settle for one like this??
