Player Progression |
| derick from Illinois, USA says (8/Jul/2003): |
I love the game, but got one beef. My favorite part of the game is the offseason, but the progression is disappointing. It seems impossible to improve linemen on either side of the ball. I play the Bears and my defensive line drops every year despite having the best rushing defense in the league and my offensive line (except Colombo and Kruetz) follows suit while allowing the fewest sacks and supporting the best rushing totals in league. What is the deal. It is also impossible to keep up with league leaders in outside of your running back, quarterback and one or two wideouts or tightends. Tackles are never even close. I think I have gotten 70 something for Warrick Holdman a couple times. Most of them go to my defensive backs since the CPU goes all pass after I shut them down on their first 5-10 rushing attempts.

7 things to improve upon |
| Nick from Burnt Hills, New York says (1/Jul/2003): |
We all know its the best game ever. here are seven things that can make it untouchable.
1. Mel Kiper doing draft analysis at the booth and showing clips from college of your first round pick. how amazing would that be?
2. Showfirst round pick walkin up to the commissioner to get the new jersey and shake his hand.
3. Player introductions at the Super Bowl.
4. Show plauyers getting off the team bus at the super bowl, complete with headphones, street clothes, luggage, stuff like that. Makes the players more realistic and personal.
5. Hall of Fame after 5 years. When a guy retires, five years later he shows up on the ballot and you can choose whether or not to vote him in, or the computer chooses. For exapmle, David Carr just finished a great 17 year career in my franchise and i need a way to honor him.
6. Lower the standards for linemen to get better. Its impossible to rack up 130 tackles, even with urlacher or lewis. Pancakes, tackles, and sacks by linemen should be either easier to get or the players should not be punished for having only 15 pancakes a year, then go down 7 points. (that way i wont have to sign a DT free agent or 1st round pick every year)

CPU overvalues draft choices |
| johna from atlanta says (30/Jun/2003): |
I am afraid if you make it any better I will have to quit my job, but anyway, here goes. The CPU overvalue future draft choices. This works both for and against the player. I could draft a guy number one overall and he have a great number (80) and still I could not trade him before his first season started for anything above a third round pick. Wierd. The reverse is also true you could get a young fast quarterback rated a 99 for two low first round picks.

To Improve |
| JJ says (28/Jun/2003): |
Madden '03 is a great game and that may be under estimating it. To make the next game in the series the best ever, there are a few things to do. For the draft have the player who's chosen walk up to a podeom (1st three rounds only and have a option to watch). In the future, you should be able to see the player do a little workout when you scout them if you want. That would be really neat. When you create a team you should be able to chose individual players you want on your team and not a roster. Let players progress during season by having them get more attributes right then. Create a player should not allow you to make them 99 right away. Defensive lineman for me never get better for me during a franchise so make it easier for them to progress. Make there be more sacks. Cathches, tackles and graphics allways get better so I'm not worried about that.

Madden 03 rules, but still room for improvement. |
| Daniel K Billett JR from Philipsburg, Pa USA says (24/Jun/2003): |
We all know that madden 03 has the best graphics, although some of the hits are a little weak. I guess thats because the NFL is trying to downplay the violence. We all know that the gameplay is awesome. But if you play it too much, its possible to win games 121 - 13. Even if you are a mediocre team. So that gets a little old. The addition of mini - camps has made a huge difference for new comers to learn how to play. In fact, even with these inadequecies, the game just rules. Its the best 'looking' and best 'playing' football game of all time. Bar none. But when I rank it against other football games overall, it falls short. There just isn't enough control in the game. For example, if I start a franchise mode and get a season or two into it, then my friend wants to join, guess what, I have to start all over, because you have to declare how many human coaches there will be in the begiining. I found a way around it, but its annoying. (Create the multiple coaches and select team none for any coach not playing). But my biggest gripe, lack of a coach mode. What if I just want to call the plays, and handle the various managerial duties of the team? Can't do it. No such thing. Of course you can call the play, then let the computer run it, but you loose the flavor. I have to flip a coin, and change the difficulty level of the game just to simulate the ebb and flow. Because, if you leave the game on pro, you crush everyone, and if you leave the game on the next setting up, you get crushed. And what ever happened to clock management? Why does every team play in the hurry up? Often snapping the ball with 15 seconds or more. Because of this I always own time of possesion 2:1 or 3:1! And isn't the point of a timeout that you get more time? Why does the 40 second clock start out at 20 after a timeout? And btw, whats wrong with a 10 - 0 or 7 - 0 game? Why does every game end in the 20's or 30's? And if I set up a game to just watch (august please come quick) the game always ends up in the 50's and 40's. And why isn't there a global substitution available. Why can't I just take out Bettis, and But in Amos in everyplay in the middle of a game, and have it work for every play? these are however, minor anoyances. John Madden Football has always been an 'arcade' football game, not a simulation. Considering that, I have to say it definetly wins hands down in the arcade football realm. But like I said. It falls far short when you compare it to simulations. Hopefully, this will be a step forward for EA, I would love to see them improve the management and other aspects of the game every year. Not just the graphics.

!Bang! what a hit in the game industry |
| Dylan from Calgary, Alberta says (19/Jun/2003): |
Hmm? were do I start Ooo yes, what to say about madden 2003 more like what not to say this is got to be in the top three in video games EVER maybe #1 this game has fantastic graphics great gamplay and up to date rosters, this game give's you freedom to do almost anything, I give this game a full 10, look strongley forward to madden 2004.
|
Other games don't come close. |
| Moe from Philadelphia says (17/Jun/2003): |
Madden 2003 on PS2 is by far the best game ever made. Its that easy. Other games, you get bored of playing after a period of a few weeks or even a month or two. But not this game. The franchise mode, which can extend up to 30 years into the future, is the best feature of any sports game ever made. The draft, the rookie scouting, this is the peak of video games. All I can say is, bring on Madden 2004.
|
Greatest game ever |
| Gibberish Crazy from Nowheresville, USA says (6/Jun/2003): |
This game is the best football game/ normal game ever created. The graphics rule, create a team lets one be creative, and the variety of comments allow it to be played for hours on end. Like anyting it has minor defects like not saying created players' and teams' names and no matter how big, strong, good your offensive line is you never get pancakes. Plus when playing in All- Madden mode a person with 99 speed and acceleration shouldn't be caught by someone with 70. Except for those small things Madden '03 is the greatest game ever.

Computer Cheats |
| Star from United States New York says (30/May/2003): |
Whats Up? It seems that the computer is able to do things we can't, like pick up a fumble and break four tackles on the way to a touchdown. They also seem to always be open no matter what defense play you pick. Now I know we get advantages like I can run the Hb pass and run for 20 yards every play but when they throw into a zone 10 yards away something is wrong. They also make it impossible to make your lineman better in franchise mode they never get pancakes, I don't know. I don't have time to play 15 mintue quarters so my line man never get any pancakes and I have the best lineman. Even though madden has somethings to workout it is still better then NFL2K3.

Stuff you need to add |
| chuck from Rochester NY says (29/May/2003): |
Madden 2003 is the beast one yet because its for the best game system but besides the graphics the other things like injuries.
Sometimes when aplayer gets hurt the sometime dont be holding what they hurt they be holding there leg when there arm got hurt.
Also the draft should be more real. The team creation should be better because there team logos are fake. Also

ok |
| A gamer from United States says (24/May/2003): |
best game in the football world. the graphics and rosters are updated. rent this game if you already own an older version of this game. i am impressed with the all around series. this year is not the best wait til next year to buy. not liking the lac of change ea did to this game. ea is the best company out there with any video game. get a diff. sport video game if you are looking to buy.

Online Play |
| Nutty from Atlanta,GA says (12/May/2003): |
I feel the online play could be alot better. First of all it's too slow... It's like playing another Video Game.... The game play should play like it would if you were playing someone in your house... Now Sega NFL 2k3 plays that way.. for the x-box... That's because it only accepts high speed internet. There should be a room for high speed and a separate room for dial up... And you should be to see the difference... When this happens, the online experience will be taken to a new height...

best madden ever but needs improvements |
| ultramegamer6419 from Elkins, West virginia USA says (11/May/2003): |
hey if anyone from ea happens to read this review, on madden04, please bring back the change position thing in rosters. on 01 and 02 i loved putting kordell stewert as a wr and hines ward as a qb. plus, some people in the nfl play two positions and if you are a little tight in a certain position in franchise mode, you could change, for example, eric metcalf from hb to wr. you also need to change rookie progression, i mean if u don't play them at all in their first season, they lose like 5 attribute points. i think player progression should change during the season too. oh, and in franchise mode, you should be able to go into coach options and look at your players comments. for example, you could go in and, for example again, bubba franks demands a trade. and you should make a training camp where u can introduce your rookies to your system. i think that would be cool. and what would be really cool, if like you create a team, and instead of giving it a set roster, there should be a draft sort of thing, ya know like in real life. an expansion drft!thats what its called!oh yeah!when you create a player, you should be able to go into a sort of dictionary thing and like be able to make the announcers say like! wow al! chris fuamata-ma'afala is runnin all over ziggy franklesnorf, not wow al!number 45 is runnin all over number 26. ya know somethin like that...please add my ideas, it would make for a even better madden!

best football game ever, but could have more options |
| john from Reading, Pa.U.S.A says (8/May/2003): |
Madden 2003 is the best foot ball game ever made, but if a 2004 version is to be released why not have a mode where you can time warp teams from the differnt periods in nfl history like the 1930's on up to the present ex( 1932 boston braves, chicago cardinals etc) with classic players, nfl europe teams and decideing how many games who you play eveyweek with the stats being saved after every season to show carrer stats even if a player is traded, also wether effects could be better and feild conditions inproved to show wear and tear during a game

Whats Really Good is Madden 2003 |
| Kid Fabolous from Rocky Mount NC says (26/Apr/2003): |
Aiight Madden 2k3 is flame(hot) but by now you know that. The real reason im leaving a review is for some insight or comments to help make an even better title next year. What could be better challege fumbles chall is straight more worried about spot of the ball and catching out of bounds. More catches going out of bounds not many tip toe catches going out of bounds. More powerful tackles I mean there are thousands of ways to hit some one experiment. More injuries depth like people being carried off the field. Maybe look into a more in depth create a player and team choices. By that no player should be 99 everything make them work for great player capablities like getting a point system for doing well in games with created players. Have better Super Bowl experiences when you get top the Super Bowl you want it all entrances commentrary every thing trophies for the season being presented. Of course your gonna have to step up the gamming next year so im looking forward to see new catches, int, etc. have the draft be the draft crowd draft board and players taking that walk on draft day the totally NFL experience baby.

What's with the international teams??? |
| Spcl. "K" from Kansas City, USA says (21/Apr/2003): |
Overall M'03 is the best football game I've played to date. I do have to say that I don't get the international teams. The uniforms suck, you can't change them, "Play Now", is the only way to use them and they have the fresh stadium designs! NFL team logos and uniform designs are not available in create a team mode. The uniforms and logos that are in create a team, look like somthing out of a coloring book. I thought that you would at least be able to select the colors in the logo and have the team name in the endzone, I.E. NCAA! This is the only thing I could find wrong with this game. For me that is quite the challenge. Tweek it up a little and I'll give it a (10).
|
As close to perfect...but not perfect. |
| Johnny Lightsout from Long Island, NY says (21/Apr/2003): |
A few things wrong with this game: (1)Computer Assistance in head to head makes every game close, which is cool, but there is little or no reward for good defense, as the guy who is losing can usually just start chucking downfield into triple-covereage and get a TD. (2) When a player is undercut (tackled from below) and he falls forward, the ball is spotted where he was hit, instead of where he lands, even though his knee didn't hit the ground. Challenging the play does nothing. (3) The quarterback can bail himself out by tapping any receiver button before he gets hit, and even if the ball goes 2 feet or hits a lineman (which is intentional grounding, Mr. Madden) it is ruled incomplete. Unfair advantage to the offense.
All that still adds up to the best football simulation ever, but that won't stop me from trying to help EA make it even better.
|
few more changes and would be the best game ever |
| ryan from Owensboro, USA says (21/Apr/2003): |
Graphics are very good.Playing defense is hard though. The second easiest level on the game seems too difficult. The computer catches passes too easy and breaks almost every tackle. Where is the SEASON MODE?????I don't care for the franchise mode because it seems like half the league retires and all of the fake players that u have to draft. You should also be able to play a game even if u only have one quarterback or short any other postition, they do in real life.Should also be allowed to change a players position just the same. The best football game would be even better if all that was changed.

No Momentum |
| C.2. Lenton (LSU Tiger) says (8/Apr/2003): |
Just because a one player makes a good play, the opponent should not have to battle the other player plus the computer. In other words chill out on all the momentum crap the next time. Think about it. If my players start dropping 80% of their passes and fumbling the ball, QB starts getting all these high snaps ,ETC. after the other team makes a big play whats the use of even continuing the game. Let the game be played evenly all the way to the end. So that no one player has that much of an advantage over another. THE GAME WILL BE A LOT MORE REALISTIC AND FUN!!!!
|
best football game of all time |
| jp lilliston from philadelphia, us says (6/Apr/2003): |
best football game ever created, gameplay is realistic, from blitzing linebackers to the fullback breaking tackles up the middle, right down to the endzone dancing. as far as improvements, would like to see all time record holders even after players retires. downside is historic players, once added to roster should start off as rookies not 30 yrs old, where is joe montana? also having the ability to bring back, somehow players that retired, aside from creating that player.
all in all this game is awesome. a must for big game players.
