Take my advise please!!!!! trust me32026

spazzolla from lakes,florida says (17/Sep/2003):
Madden is far better than any football bar none( second to tecmo bowl). The grapics are superb, precise, and to the T excelent work to the madden crew. I been a loyal customer since 1994 (the sega era) BUT I found a few inperfections with this particular game.
1) Offence has a great advantage in madden every single game I play rain, sleet, fog, or snow its always high scoring,What ever happened to a hard hitting NFC 10 to 7 game it almost never happens receviers come across the middle note average NFL recivers 195lbs and gets clocked blind sided by a 246lb lb at full speed or even sometimes by lineman when running a zone blitz and the reciever survies AND holds on the the football???
2)We need more serious injuries in grapic detail a guy breaks a leg show us a broken flimsey leg "mcgahee like" what ever happened to the ambulance or even the strecher this greatly increases the fun factor in a major way injured players in crutches on the sidelines in plain clothes. More bone crushing hits a derrick brooks hit should'nt resemble a trent dilfer hit Ill be running at full speed with tim bowens dive at a QB in throwing motion plant my helmet into his ribs or kneecap no injury, anazing,we need more gang tackles guys getting hit and getting hit repeatedly. 3) DBs lacts aggressiveness there is no way that somebody like wayne crebet should burn troy vincent all game long, balls thrown directly at DBS get slapped down why?? Also a guy makes the pro bowl has 105 catches with 17tds then retires that sucks (no Rice)thats a no no. If you can draft players YOU should decide if they call it quits.4) Computer advantages Offensive lineman are quicker than a ninja at recovering thier player fumbles, " fat asses",I hate that. You get hit and drag a tackler out-of-bounds and the clock still ticks(someone tell me why). And the computer is notourious for the quick score before the half a damn FB is not breaking 6 tackles all of a sudden like bo jackson and going for a 98 yars score. QBs intentional grounding to avoid the sack we need the in-the-graspt rule I Use john Abraham of the jets i average about 8 sacks a year in the pro level I would have at least 16 if it wasnt for Qb throwing balls at OLs backs. Blocking players need to decide who they block sometimes when the computer blitzes my FB or HB no matter who they are shuffel back and forth block no one then I get sacked or let the defender run pass them first THEN they try to chase them. Please add to future madden games;dive over the top of the pile, more fumbles, low scoring games, scoting rookies should mean actuall practing with and seeing the played in action,a guy why runs a 4.2 needs to be more explosive should blow past a slow corner in single coverage, fumbled snaps, bad spoting by the place holder, and better control of the runner shaking a defensive player by tapping left to right, big hitters should deliver bigger hits. overall this game is a definite classic love it and i recommend it for all sport gamers.

Madden 03 rules, but still room for improvement.26215

Daniel K Billett JR from Philipsburg, Pa USA says (24/Jun/2003):
We all know that madden 03 has the best graphics, although some of the hits are a little weak. I guess thats because the NFL is trying to downplay the violence. We all know that the gameplay is awesome. But if you play it too much, its possible to win games 121 - 13. Even if you are a mediocre team. So that gets a little old. The addition of mini - camps has made a huge difference for new comers to learn how to play. In fact, even with these inadequecies, the game just rules. Its the best 'looking' and best 'playing' football game of all time. Bar none. But when I rank it against other football games overall, it falls short. There just isn't enough control in the game. For example, if I start a franchise mode and get a season or two into it, then my friend wants to join, guess what, I have to start all over, because you have to declare how many human coaches there will be in the begiining. I found a way around it, but its annoying. (Create the multiple coaches and select team none for any coach not playing). But my biggest gripe, lack of a coach mode. What if I just want to call the plays, and handle the various managerial duties of the team? Can't do it. No such thing. Of course you can call the play, then let the computer run it, but you loose the flavor. I have to flip a coin, and change the difficulty level of the game just to simulate the ebb and flow. Because, if you leave the game on pro, you crush everyone, and if you leave the game on the next setting up, you get crushed. And what ever happened to clock management? Why does every team play in the hurry up? Often snapping the ball with 15 seconds or more. Because of this I always own time of possesion 2:1 or 3:1! And isn't the point of a timeout that you get more time? Why does the 40 second clock start out at 20 after a timeout? And btw, whats wrong with a 10 - 0 or 7 - 0 game? Why does every game end in the 20's or 30's? And if I set up a game to just watch (august please come quick) the game always ends up in the 50's and 40's. And why isn't there a global substitution available. Why can't I just take out Bettis, and But in Amos in everyplay in the middle of a game, and have it work for every play? these are however, minor anoyances. John Madden Football has always been an 'arcade' football game, not a simulation. Considering that, I have to say it definetly wins hands down in the arcade football realm. But like I said. It falls far short when you compare it to simulations. Hopefully, this will be a step forward for EA, I would love to see them improve the management and other aspects of the game every year. Not just the graphics.

What A Game10894

Brett H. from Washington, D.C. says (3/Nov/2002):
So Madden 2001...not too good but ok, Madden 2002, wow, amazing, a true triumph. Madden 2003, well let me tell you. Lets begin with the music, last year it had a variety but lets face it, it sucked. This year, songs we have actually heard of and plenty of them. The graphics have vastly improved, no longer do defenders just bat the ball down, they pick it off so watch out. Al Michaels and Melissa Stark join John Madden to complete the best commentary on any game. The injuries are realistic looking and Melissa gives you many updates. Last year, franchise mode took us all by surprise, this year its even better with the player combine that you can actually scout your prospects giving you there 40 time, their bench pressing stats, and the Shuttle Run time. The sound has also improved with the new stadium music that last year sounded quite bad. The players are pumped just like in real life when they make a play. Players also do their signature dances. The coaches were grat last year and now look and move even more realistically. The fans still are 2-d but hey, they do the wave... But my favorite feature is the brand new mini-camp mode where you go to refine your skills and even show them off in game situations. If you complete them, you will recieve great Madden Cards. And you can even create your own personal playbook from scratch, both offense and defense. Pretty cool. Well I've been playing Madden 2003 for a week now and I can asssure you it is worth dropping 50 dollars on. So what are you waiting for run to the store now!

Madden 03 rocks but can be improved!38927

mattberk from Vancouver, Canada says (9/Feb/2004):
Madden 2003 is the most addicting game ever, although I can't wait to but '04. The realistic quality of the game makes it so interesting but here are some things to improve on:
1) Announce Starting lineups before the games.
2) Make it easier to increase the ratings on your DT and DE and LB's.
3) Hall of Fame votes 5 yrs. after the player retires.
4) MAKE IT SO THAT A PLAYER DOESN'T RETIRE WHEN HE STILL HAS YEARS ON HIS CONTRACT!
5) Way Lower Scoring Games! Defense on both sides are horrible
and games are so high scoring ex. I won 64-55 earlier
6) More injuries and more serious injuries - tend to injured players on the field.
7) Better blocking when receiving a punt and when punting.
8) Rushing is too easy. I got 3000+ yards with LaDainian Tomlinson in his 2nd yr.
9) Make it easier to sack. I only get 1 or 2 a game.

The GOOD things about the game:
1) Salary caps and negotiating player salaries (although it can still be improved by having bonuses if they go to the probowl - stuff like that.
2) Kicking field goals can't really be improved! Nor can punting or kickoffs.
3) You can challenge a play - I think this feature is unbeatable!

One thing I'm not sure if it's good or bad is I can block field goals so easily. In Ronde Barber's career (in my franchise), I had over 150 blocks! I guess they could make it harder.
But overall, this is the best game I have ever played! I'm attached to my computer when I'm not at school!

best madden ever but needs improvements23269

ultramegamer6419 from Elkins, West virginia USA says (11/May/2003):
hey if anyone from ea happens to read this review, on madden04, please bring back the change position thing in rosters. on 01 and 02 i loved putting kordell stewert as a wr and hines ward as a qb. plus, some people in the nfl play two positions and if you are a little tight in a certain position in franchise mode, you could change, for example, eric metcalf from hb to wr. you also need to change rookie progression, i mean if u don't play them at all in their first season, they lose like 5 attribute points. i think player progression should change during the season too. oh, and in franchise mode, you should be able to go into coach options and look at your players comments. for example, you could go in and, for example again, bubba franks demands a trade. and you should make a training camp where u can introduce your rookies to your system. i think that would be cool. and what would be really cool, if like you create a team, and instead of giving it a set roster, there should be a draft sort of thing, ya know like in real life. an expansion drft!thats what its called!oh yeah!when you create a player, you should be able to go into a sort of dictionary thing and like be able to make the announcers say like! wow al! chris fuamata-ma'afala is runnin all over ziggy franklesnorf, not wow al!number 45 is runnin all over number 26. ya know somethin like that...please add my ideas, it would make for a even better madden!

7 things to improve upon23269

Nick from Burnt Hills, New York says (1/Jul/2003):
We all know its the best game ever. here are seven things that can make it untouchable.
1. Mel Kiper doing draft analysis at the booth and showing clips from college of your first round pick. how amazing would that be?
2. Showfirst round pick walkin up to the commissioner to get the new jersey and shake his hand.
3. Player introductions at the Super Bowl.
4. Show plauyers getting off the team bus at the super bowl, complete with headphones, street clothes, luggage, stuff like that. Makes the players more realistic and personal.
5. Hall of Fame after 5 years. When a guy retires, five years later he shows up on the ballot and you can choose whether or not to vote him in, or the computer chooses. For exapmle, David Carr just finished a great 17 year career in my franchise and i need a way to honor him.
6. Lower the standards for linemen to get better. Its impossible to rack up 130 tackles, even with urlacher or lewis. Pancakes, tackles, and sacks by linemen should be either easier to get or the players should not be punished for having only 15 pancakes a year, then go down 7 points. (that way i wont have to sign a DT free agent or 1st round pick every year)

The game stinks23269

SuperFreak 84 from Minneapolis, Minnesota says (25/Feb/2003):
They should have released this game last year and released 2002 this year. On 2002 there was defense soon as you snap the ball if you don't get rid of it your sacked on 2003 you have all the time in the world. which isn't realistic. On 2002 the defensive backs play defense on 2003 the db's are confused even the best rated dbs cant cover a turtle. What happened to the pass heavy playbook? What they should have did was leave the game exactly the way it was in 2002. But use the player faces from 2003. use the gang tackles use the db option where they can either jam or play off the wr. And the biggest question of all where the hect is Cris Carter the best hands the nfl has ever seen. The guy deserves to be on the game he is only second to jerry rice in the hall of fames at least put him in the free agency or give us a chance to unlock him in madden card mode. I hope 2004 is exactly what i asked for. If not they should've stopped making madden games and just stop at 2002 but made it convenient for us to download the latest rosters and player photos on the internet. Till then Madden 2002 is still the best ever.

Whats Really Good is Madden 200322228

Kid Fabolous from Rocky Mount NC says (26/Apr/2003):
Aiight Madden 2k3 is flame(hot) but by now you know that. The real reason im leaving a review is for some insight or comments to help make an even better title next year. What could be better challege fumbles chall is straight more worried about spot of the ball and catching out of bounds. More catches going out of bounds not many tip toe catches going out of bounds. More powerful tackles I mean there are thousands of ways to hit some one experiment. More injuries depth like people being carried off the field. Maybe look into a more in depth create a player and team choices. By that no player should be 99 everything make them work for great player capablities like getting a point system for doing well in games with created players. Have better Super Bowl experiences when you get top the Super Bowl you want it all entrances commentrary every thing trophies for the season being presented. Of course your gonna have to step up the gamming next year so im looking forward to see new catches, int, etc. have the draft be the draft crowd draft board and players taking that walk on draft day the totally NFL experience baby.

Close but no cigguar16863

Man from Miami, Dade says (4/Feb/2003):
When you create your plays on madden it won't allow you to flip the play or audible without everyone run all over the Field. You shoul be able to edit your schemes to the fullest everlittle detail because on offense you can detail your offensive lin blocking you can even create a bootleg or playaction.Your Defense of Formation you should be able to audible, jam, flip your play, and we need be more percide on postiong players and schemes. They need to widen the variety of zones and and be more specific on man coverage and who they suppose to cover and why you cann't spy the runninback you can spy the QB and plan please stop don't have the corners confusing zone and man coverage and Kurt Warner is just Ridiculous with all thi side arm stuff let's be real he don't throw like that 90% of the time and there defense is just over rated The safey alone are to good give the patriots more credit than them and these receivers with one hand catch lets get real two hands or no hands baby!!.But they to get more real each player game play.Pleasae take action, Respond

Madden 2003 is off da hook. (FULL HUNDRED)18477

Stealy from Nassau, Bahamas says (1/Mar/2003):
Madden 2003 is one da best football game around. Much love for 2002 but 2003 takes da cake. i just love the in ur face defense the computer puts on u. It makes u really have to work for ur scores. I'm a fool in da franchise mode. Thats my specialty. I love the extra 15 years of franchise Madden 2003 offers. It gives u more than enough time to create the perfect team. The scrambling abilities of the quarterback are remarkable. So are the gang tackles and the breaking tackles. The graphics speak for themselves. The one flaw i just can't understand is if u injure the computer teams starting quarterback or wide receiver, their backup comes in and does an even better job than the starter did. How is dat possible? But to get down to the bottom line. Madden just isnt a game that u can pick up and think u can master. It takes skill and an understanding for the game. Oh yeah, for Madden 2004, don't yall think EA sports can add Hall ofFame for the Franchise Mode. It's like all of your hard work and excellence goes to waste after the 30 years.

Offseason Improvements28129

Arlen McCann from Aurora, IL, USA says (19/Jul/2003):
For me, I've mastered circlin around the salary cap and its 2 easy 2 bring back every single player on my roster and sign the best free agents every season. The players also will sign with u no matter wut as long as u offer cash and years. I think they should add a players motivation 2 be able 2 win it all and not just resign for cash. Madden 2004 should have situations like the one with takeo spikes, he gits pissed cause he looses, so he leaves. Also, stop makin Jerry Rice retire after one season! theyve done that in every madden game since like '99 or somethin. Finally, no matter how good a defense i get, and no matter how badly i may be beatin the computer team, they always manage like 600 yards passin and score 40 pts. Perhaps making offense harder and the A.I on D would help with this problem. Finally, kickin field goals is sometimes impossible. i aint good at it, but im not the only 1 who has kiked a 50 yard field goal and have it land in the corner of the end zone.

where would we be w/o Madden19240

Malcolm Scott from Grand Rapids, Michigan says (14/Mar/2003):
I love this game, it the most realistic football game out there. Of coarse the creator are not perfect, But we should thank them any way. I heard a guy say why have Madden speak after a play. I say take the advice and critisism as constructive and don't throw the ball into double coverage and get picked off. I agree with most the DB's play kinda soft. I play with the Rams ans there is no way my partner should be completing as may passes to A. Wiliams side as they do to Mcleon side. It's like when you use to throw the ball to Rice he always use was open deep. Some of the corners are hard like Barber and the boys from MIami ans Philli. But the rest play soft.
The running could be improved a lot Faulk barely get 60yd when i play the computer or my friend. Like i said not perfect but hey we do have a MAdden and you all love it no matter what the little flaws my be. Yeah you never catch the computer once they break away but it could be worst.

AMAZING42854

billahgio from Yale says (19/Oct/2004):
i nvr get sick of this game i play it non-stop. but i do think that they should do some those 7 thing to improve upon on the top, but other than those this game is unbeatable, the franchise mode is amazing and i just keep pulling this game out and playing it on saturday, and sunday mornings to get pumped for the upcoming weekend football games. The offseason is one of my favorite aspects of this game, it really puts u in the gm's position. Me and my college buddy's play against each other tons and it nvr gets old (chas anyone played 4 player with a multitap). In my franchise im on my 20th season and almost everyone on my team is not an original player and they r all rookies or have been rookies, and its still fun. with the 30 year franchise u start to develope rivalries and opponents which u become ery familiar with and all it does it make the game even more exciting than it starts.

To Improve26533

JJ says (28/Jun/2003):
Madden '03 is a great game and that may be under estimating it. To make the next game in the series the best ever, there are a few things to do. For the draft have the player who's chosen walk up to a podeom (1st three rounds only and have a option to watch). In the future, you should be able to see the player do a little workout when you scout them if you want. That would be really neat. When you create a team you should be able to chose individual players you want on your team and not a roster. Let players progress during season by having them get more attributes right then. Create a player should not allow you to make them 99 right away. Defensive lineman for me never get better for me during a franchise so make it easier for them to progress. Make there be more sacks. Cathches, tackles and graphics allways get better so I'm not worried about that.

As close to perfect...but not perfect.21870

Johnny Lightsout from Long Island, NY says (21/Apr/2003):
A few things wrong with this game: (1)Computer Assistance in head to head makes every game close, which is cool, but there is little or no reward for good defense, as the guy who is losing can usually just start chucking downfield into triple-covereage and get a TD. (2) When a player is undercut (tackled from below) and he falls forward, the ball is spotted where he was hit, instead of where he lands, even though his knee didn't hit the ground. Challenging the play does nothing. (3) The quarterback can bail himself out by tapping any receiver button before he gets hit, and even if the ball goes 2 feet or hits a lineman (which is intentional grounding, Mr. Madden) it is ruled incomplete. Unfair advantage to the offense.

All that still adds up to the best football simulation ever, but that won't stop me from trying to help EA make it even better.

100% madden review13925

thomas from usa says (28/Dec/2002):
madden 2003 is awesome the graphics are great. gameplay is good, but you still cant laterel the ball i was wanting for this game to replace my ncaa game completly but i cant run option plays, also wheres the hb pass play, the mini camp mode is fun the music on this maden is pretty good and i only listen to rap mostly, the commentary was right on, w/accurate sayings to the play you just ran, but on the madden cards i dont like having to have other ea sport games to unlock some of them, and even when you do have those games saved i cant figure out how to unlock those cards, franchise is pretty good, the create a team isnt as good as i thought it would be, ncaa 2003 is way better, also wheres the teams mascot, the create a playbook is fairly understandalble but yuo cant create reverses, hb passes, option etc. for the most part i give this game a 10.

The best could still be better33496

Stav from California, USA says (16/Oct/2003):
First of all I have to say that madden 2004 is the best game I have played.Getting that out of the way I must first complain about the never ending high scoring games. The CPU pass offense is absolutely unstoppable even when your playing teams like the cardinals and bears and you know what your doing. Some games do end low scoring in the NFL so it should be that way in Madden too.Other than the best LB on a team, their stats still do not progress enough over the course of the season/s and the DBs get way too many tackles as a result of the CPU's non stop passing attack. There are many more features which can be added to improve the game such as all new options for the create-a-team and a realistic expansion draft but I feel that these are only secondary to the issues I mentioned earlier.Anyway its still the game I would take to a desert island.

Player Progression27444

derick from Illinois, USA says (8/Jul/2003):
I love the game, but got one beef. My favorite part of the game is the offseason, but the progression is disappointing. It seems impossible to improve linemen on either side of the ball. I play the Bears and my defensive line drops every year despite having the best rushing defense in the league and my offensive line (except Colombo and Kruetz) follows suit while allowing the fewest sacks and supporting the best rushing totals in league. What is the deal. It is also impossible to keep up with league leaders in outside of your running back, quarterback and one or two wideouts or tightends. Tackles are never even close. I think I have gotten 70 something for Warrick Holdman a couple times. Most of them go to my defensive backs since the CPU goes all pass after I shut them down on their first 5-10 rushing attempts.

It is the best game out there. Madden rules. Everyone else just stop making football games..20060

Gerald Espo from USA says (28/Mar/2003):
I love madden. 2003 was so much better than the previous years. Running, catching, interceptions, even kicking is real life. Make it easier to break the kickers after a late hit on field goal kicks. They should get injured more easily and badly once hit by a huge man. All the tackling and running ability is fabulous. It is real life, and the game was designed awesome. Have the dime backs be able to cover the outside posts and flags a bit more, they get toasted so easily on the flag, pisses me off when I don't draft 4 quality cornerbacks. Have more interesting injuries happen. Ex: Concussion, broken neck, (possibly died) perhaps a bit un appropriate, but sometimes it would be just to funny to see a freind lose a quality player to death. The Madden competion can get intense.

Madden floors the competition once again30383

Kurupt from Detroit Michigan USA says (18/Aug/2003):
This game is awesome..$#< remove me > at ! the wwe smackdown interview bull$#< remove me > at ! this ain't wrasslin this is football. The Playmaker Control is sick, what else could you ask for than not having to depend on lousy cpu offensive lines when you're tearing up the defense and controlling your own blocks. The graphics and animations are amazingly crisp and the gameplay is awesome. Hey if you're having problems stopping the pass....here's a suggestion....SELL YOUR DAMN GAME CUZ IF YOU AIN'T GOOD ENOUGH TO STOP A FREAKIN PASS YOU DON'T EVEN DESERVE TO OWN A GAME AS GOOD AS THIS LEARN HOW TO CALL YOUR COVERAGE for crying out loud you even get to see your opponents offensive set up before you call your defensive play. All around Madden 2004 brings home another championship
