Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver Is Quite An Experience |
Arend Hart from Michigan says (12/Oct/2000): |
Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver is Crystal Dynamic's follow-up to the well-appreciated, Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen.
With a superb control scheme (look here Capcom, you have a lot to learn), amazing (let me say it again...AMAZING!) graphics, excellent voice acting and fluid camera movement (with you in control), this game is a work of art. It sets an eerie atmosphere from the get-go and keeps you riveted to your seat, playing until dangerous hours of the night - transforming between the material and spirit worlds, and savoring the souls of the dead.
I want to reitierate my opinion that the control scheme for Soul Reaver is fantastic, especially with the Dual Shock controller. It literally takes only minutes before you have Raziel kicking butt with the best of them.
On the downside; the story thins out at the end, some boss areas can be a bit tedious, and many times, you get little direction as to what you need to do. Thank God for the wonderful walkthroughs available for this game!
All in all, Crystal Dynamic's Soul Reaver is an experience to be enjoyed by all. Definetely worth purchasing. Or, you can rent it from RedOctane and save yourself a few bucks (www.RedOctane.com).

Verdict of Game: Absolutely Brilliant |
| sexy pepsi from greater london, uk says (27/Sep/2002): |
Walking through one of our biggest toy stores in london "Hamleys" a couple of years ago this game was on display and i thought yeah looks ok.Let me wait a couple of months for true gamers opinions and take it from there.Well to be honest not much was said aBOUT it and if it was said it was given quite bad reviews by game mags.So when i saw it on a discount bin for £5 i bought it and tested it myself. I guess now, thinking back, that this was one of the first addictive games out at the time.
My little brother kept phoning me to tell me how far he got in the game and what awesome puzzle he cracked. He too got addicted. Here's what the game contains:
#1:graphics are smooth enough to admire and the expected glitches (camera angle) don't stand up to the overall feel of the game.
#2:sound is fine.
#3:gameplay is nice and simple. The skills you aquire after defeating each "brother" is worth the wait.
#4:lifespan,well its still on my shelf(and not many stay there!) and will be for quite a while.
#5:fun factor is present.Something that will keep you thinking and guessing till the game is done.Simple puzzles but fun.
#6:original it ain't, but hey so is burger king to mcdonalds(?!). So there it is...my opinion: 9/10.

It's dark... It's creepy... It's gothic... It's brilliant... It's a sequel... It's Soul Reaver! |
| A gamer from Someplace, Somewhere says (15/Jan/2001): |
To be honest, I have never played Blood Omen, but I know the whole story. Anyway I read a preview in a magazine for Soul Reaver and thought 'That looks cool!' a few months later, I read a review and considered getting it. Then I kind of forgot about it until I saw the cool holographic cover in a store and purchased it (The game, not just the cover art). I rushed home and started playing. The intro totally sucked me in. When I started playing, I thought the graphics were amazing, except for a few very minor glitches. The sound effects, music, and voice acting was excellent. The lifespan, I thought was pretty good, because of glyphs. All of those things above were excellent, but the gameplay, well... it was BRILLIANT!!!!!!!! Right now I'm up to the Dumah boss without cheating.
Graphics- 9\10 The vampire designs and animation was superb
Sound- 10\10 Dramatic voice acting & music
Lifespan- 8\10 The Glyphs add and extra challenge to find
Gameplay- 10\10 So Tomb-Raider-ish, with plenty of puzzles & foes
Fun Factor- 10\10 So fun, yeah so fun!!!!
Originality- 9\10 It's sort of original
Overall- 10\10

Like Tenchu, but better. |
| Isaac Segen from Newark, OH. Unfortunately, USA says (5/May/2003): |
I won't reiterate other reviews, but I will beat a dead horse in saying that this game is utterly stunning. Perfect, easily adapted controls (you can play while smoking), an eerie, beautiful environment, Excellent graphics, fluid voiceovers (and the voice actors fit the characters), and a massive array of enemies, weapons, and dungeons all add up to a ten.
So why an eight? The enemy AI is somewhat less than challenging. They're smart enough to fight efeectively, and they run when you severely batter them, but all too often I find myself executing one five hit combo after another, just to impale my foe all over again. The real challenge is catching them when they run.
OK, that's a -1, so where did I pull the other point? The ending. I won't give it away (though it's kinda sad to think that you wouldn't know by now), but let's just say it's disapointing.

Just amazing |
| Dave Flett from Nottingham says (28/Aug/2003): |
When i bought soul reaver and rushed home to play the game i was not sure what is was going to be like but once again as with the first game i was impressed the first thing that cought my attenting was that the game was no longer in the overhead view second was the quality of the graphics but this was not the best bit. In my opinion graphics are a good thing but without gameplay its just a pretty looking pile of crap. Well i did not have to worry about gameplay as soul reaver had it in spades. And finnaly the learning curve of the game was also set at the right level so all in all a very good game for anyones collection

Instantly beats gamesl ike Tomb Raider and Tenchu |
| Super-Saiyan 4 Goku from England, Liverpool says (9/Jul/2003): |
Soul Reaver is obviously the best ever adventure game. It's dark, it's moody, IT'S FRIKKIN' PERFECT! The graphics are so detailed and realistic, you'll get scared in the night after just playing it! Instead of all this 'unlimited' buisness, nothing ends in Soul Reaver and instead of having to start from the begginning again because you've just died, you start back in one of the worlds (I haven't playedi t for a while so I've forgotten the names of a few things). It has a simple save system and the puzzles really are mind bending. This is truly excellent stuff.

| MiKiE from USA says (19/Aug/2000): |
This is a great title, its fun with an easy learning curve, it is truly worthy of the legacy of kain name while the first one was plaged with huge load times this one makes up for that with pratically none. The voice acting is the best I've heard and the CG cutsences are top notch and the gameplay and storie can't be beat though the ending was a little disappointing at first but I guess they did what they had too. anyway I can hardly wiat for the next installment so please buy this title and I promise money well spent.
