The best games I have played in a long time14366

Dominic Lord from Bacup, England says (1/Jan/2003):
This games was one of the best like I have said but, what makes it so great is the storyline. The battles, the character, the monsters and the classic graphics. The magic is great because each person gets its own magic. Some magic everyone can have some is just for 1 or 2 people. Also it has a wide variety of characters. The graphics are modern or great but I prefer the classic. But it isn't really bad. The battles have better graphics then the walking around. Trust me it is one of the best RPG's if you do not include the Final Fantasys.

one heck of an RPG8268

Sephitroth Pegasus from Avalion says (6/Jul/2002):
Feena was my fav character but it was sad everytime she left the party, whether she was kidnapped or something bad happened, but you get the urge to seek revenge if she was kidnapped or to find her once again! They should re-release it as a Greatest Hits soon!

Grandia is good but the attack power really s*%ks.442

Michael Haun from USA says (19/Oct/2000):
Grandia is a great game. The only thing about this game is the extremly low hp and atack power. The graphics could have been better. The music in disk 1 is terrible, but the music in disk 2 is great. The story line was ok and the bad dudes are real cool. The game is really fun unless you keep loosing.

This is a very interesting (and addicting) game.1645

Adam Ward from Blaine,USA says (12/Jan/2001):
Some of the graphics seem childish, but they're good nonetheless. The voices sound weird no matter how long you listen to them, which is somewhat distracting. It has an orignal battle system, which allows you to view your opponents HP/Command so you can prepare for what's about to come. This game makes me want to play it 24/7, which is a pretty rare for me. This is a good game to play (preferably with volume down and listening to the radio) if you need to play a RPG.

Graphics and audio aren't that great but true RPG's players play for the story.3461

Joshua from Columbus, Ohio United States says (13/Aug/2001):
If you just look at a game for looks and sounds, you'll never get the full potential of the game. When Final Fantasy came out for Nintendo, the graphics sucked but the game play is great. Much of Grandia's game play is great. The only thing I found bad about the game was the traveling. You never got to walk to another town. Just put the cursor over the town and click. If you were able to walk from town to dungeon and back the game would have been better. Also any gamers that want to voice their opinion about some new titles coming out for development e-mail me.

greatest game on the whole universe6998

Michael from uk says (19/Apr/2002):
you just have to play this game it is the best it's not like final fantasy when you just tell you person to attack and they go back to where they were you people move around the battle field and you can combine magic and you use more than one weapon type for nearly all the characters. if you are as soft as me you will want to play this game over and over again the graphics arent that good but the story line is the best and so is the music. so get this game and you can't go wrong.

Pretty Good, but needed work. . .7475

Craig from Erie, Pennsylvania, USA says (24/May/2002):
Grandia has a four great features. #1 vocal scenes #2 you can see your enemies, giving you a GREAT advantage for example if you have a low hp and cant survive a battle you can dodge the enemies #3 GREAT STORYLINE not only do you feel Justin's emotions but you can see everyone's, adding an addicting feeling to the game #4 there are some HARD battles (which are what make an RPG an RPG). Grandia also has some flaws #1 the battle system can be VERY confusing #2 graphics aren't that great. Overall Grandia is worth it's pricetag

It's worth the price.7637

Chris Deems from hamilton, ohio,USA says (5/Jun/2002):
Grandia is great! In fact, it is so great that I played it 4 times before I got bored of it. The Graphics, on the other hand, suck. If the game is for a playstation, they could have at least made better graphics. It is like playing a super nintendo. The characters are blurry, and they don't move when they talk. The storyline is awsome, so you forget about the graphics soon enough. I, personally, don't really care about anything but sound, storyline, level of difficulty, and length an RPG is, so i think that Grandia is great. If you buy the game, you will apreciate that it is supposed to be eighty hours long, though I beat it 76 hours, 32 minutes. The sound is ok. It could be fit for a super nintendo, like the graphics though. The game play is great, as there is alot of adventures, and some very hard battles. Some of the adventures are boring, though, like having to walk through woods. To give my overall opinion, as well as alot of others, it is worth the price, as well as the time spent playing it.

A Masterpiece.9458

Nagzul Kataluki from Mcewensville,USA says (4/Sep/2002):
   Graphics-6.5
These graphics could use some REAL work.Hard to focus with this bad,but it shouldnt get in the way too much in the game.
Audio-7.0
Alright audio, not the greatest, but good enough for an rpg.Maybe they coulda put more work into this section...but its okay.
Length-9.5
Good long game. Some rpgs Ive played are so long, you forget what the hells goin on...but not this one.
Gameplay-10.0
Amazing...a true masterpiece...You can almost feel the emotions for this game, and theres a changing objective,so you dont get bored of constantly chasing someone...not that i dislike Final Fantasy games though...
Overall-9.0
Rarely do i find a game with just enough of the right parts...sure,the audio and graphics arent perfect, but you soon forget about them after you begin playing.the gameplay and length make up for those.a true work of art...

A diamond in the rough!10602

megan from selby, UK says (24/Oct/2002):
Grandia is a game which can easily be rated as one of the best RPG's outside of the FF Series. The characters are believable and you find yourself emotionally drawn to them. The voice-overs are an added bonus enhancing the realism of the story. However, the graphics are in need of a severe overhaul and the video play is diabolical. You are left feeling somewhat frustrated when you compare them to the FF Sagas. The music is really non-descript, only improving slightly in the Castle Of Dreams and other parts of the 2nd Disc. Originality gets 10/10. The storyline is easy to follow and the characters development is superb ie. poor Sue struggling to continue the journey, Justin discovering maturity and responsibility and Colonel Mullen's dilemma between duty and conscience is a nice touch. The battle scenes are a breath of fresh air. Instead of just relaying commands, you can move the characters around and have to time your actions just right to cancel the opponents attacks. This gets you a lot more involved with the battles. As a summary, this game is great fun and can be played several times with ease but I wish that it could be re-done with the graphics and video-play of a FF game.

Abit on the easy side, but still one of the greats19121

Seffora the Dark Halfling says (12/Mar/2003):
My first exposure to Grandia was Grandia II (a game I concider one of the greatest games ever composed) so I was expecting alot if it was the bases of such an amazing game. The first thing I want to get out of the way is the cons: First of all the translation from Japanese to English was flat-out bad, not to metion the cencering that made the game seem sorta like a saturday mourning cartoon(for example saying "Drat" rather than "Damn" or "Crud" as opposed to "Crap")for me I would have to say that the dificulty level is almost totally non-exsistant. I can't think of a single hard-to-kill enemy or boss in the whole 20 hours I've been playing (but then again, I'm still only half done the game) and the sprit charactors can be abit grainy if the camera is too close, but what do you expect? It's a port of a Saturn game afterall. Alot of people hated the music and voice overs, but I personally didn't mind them. The music isn't fantastic, I know, but it does have it's moments. As for the acting, I though for the most part it was well done, except the gaps in speech betwen text boxes and the odd anoying voice (why couldn't Sue be a mute?). But where this game really shines is the battle system! I have to say now that I LOVE the Magic/Special Attack system of leveling up your weapon skills and elements. Overall a must onw (if you can find it...)
