FFVIII is the best game I have ever played and I have played a lot of games. Sqaure should remodel it for PS2. The Graphics was great and I shouldnt see anyone complaining that it was to hard or that it was to long.FFVIII is the greatest and if people keep complaining than you are very weak and stupid

The est rpg games in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!27959

MunKy from England says (17/Jul/2003):
Finale fantasy games are the best rpg ever. Never before has a game ceopt me on my playstation for more than about 200 hours gameplay. There is just so much too do. The battles are really kool and the idea of GFs is amazing. They are better than finale fantasy sevens summons coz you can use tham more than once. The magic is really kool and instead of waiting to collect magic you can draw it from random enemies and boss;s. There are 17 gfs in total ( 16 if you havent got secret gf greaver) and you usually have to beat them to claim them or draw them from boss's. Some times you can collect them. The weapons rae kool but there not as good as in finale fantsy 7 because you carnt have as many variations and you have too collect items to make them. The gfs now have powers with them which increase your players life, speed, vitality, strengh etc. You can also eventually fly in new cooler viercles like th ragnarok which is a flying space craft and is very fast. You can trvel by train, car or in the flying garden ( a skool that floats). At the minute after about a year i have now collected every thing on the game and god there is a lot. I carnt tell youhow much coz there is loads of items, magic, weapons, gfs, characters,gf powers and loads more.
This game is great for rpg lovers. All square games are kool but you must have lots of patence because there is lots of talking and story too take in and ill admit most of the talking takes bloody age but when you have jsut done a hard boss you welcome a break so it really doesnt bother me. BUY IT NOW its the best game for playstation. ( i own a gamecube as well and square are making finale fantasy crystle chronicles for it so get a gamecube).

WORTH THE MONEY!!27932

A gamer from San Francisco, CA USA says (16/Jul/2003):
First i have to say i have NEVER played a final fantasy game before. my friend recommended it so i bought a bunch and the only one i really got into was ff8 because of the stunning graphics and memorable music.

i thought ff8 was as a lot of people said, "HIGHLY CUSTOMIZABLE". YOU control whether you run into a monster every second or not. Sure, you have to LEARN those abilities first before you can junction them using the menu screen controls, but once you have them, those abilities make a weak character's attributes SO MUCH MORE powerful. I was originally attracted largely by the sound and graphics but when i was hitting a dead end in the game not being able to beat the ultimecia, i started doing a search on the websites for walkthrough facts and started looking for them in the game, and i could see how rich and adaptable the game was. I agree that the game is not self-evident as to where you go next and how you go about beating hard monsters, but for anybody giving a bad review, you have to UNDERSTAND AND PRACTICE the power of how to use 1) the junction system, 2) individual character limit breaks, 3) the Triple Triad card playing game and 4) Ability points. If you understand those three aspects of the game, even a neophyte can beat the hardest monsters. At first, it was taking forever for me to beat monsters especially in the latter part of the game until I really started understanding the importance of limit breaks. ( Up until then, I had relied on GF's.) Also, I didn't understand the Triple Triad card game which will give you those special items to make you invincible, which you'll especially need to battle the hardest monsters. Then also, I didn't know there were GF's that could make your life a LOT easier if you went about trying to find them or battle for them. Go to a few places on the web and read other players' reviews about how to beat them. Also, i was using the SAME junctioning every time instead of changing my junctioning magics and junctioning abilities after learning the abilities instead of paying attention to the pop-up items after each battle saying, "GF... has learned XY ability". Also, most RPG games rely on you levelling up which doesn't do much good here since the opposing monsters level up also. So you have to understand that Ability Points matter more than levelling in order to get those special abilities.

You can control the speed of the game. Don't like that that the GF's take so long to summon and slow the game down? Stock up on potions and phoenix downs, self-inflict damage on your characters to a low HP (your characters' numbers will turn yellow), save more often, and get your LIMIT BREAKS ready to hit your enemies fast and hard. Having a hard time finding that rare item to upgrade your weapon? Maybe you can get them through cards. Settle yourself down to playing a couple hundred card games and manipulate the card rules in each region. It's a nice slow but patient way of going from one battle to the next. There were a lot of either side quests like encountering Pupu the alien, Shumi Village sidequest, the Card games, acquiring Quistis' blue magic items, the Laguna side story (which affects the main story) that I never got bored from the game. I think I have played it over a dozen times already! Just its replay value is worth the money!!

THE SUBLIME WHEN IT COMES TO RPG'S!!27872

Chris from Wisconsin, USA says (15/Jul/2003):
If you ever wanted a game to play over the summer and not be bored once, then FF8 is the game for you. The graphics are so amazing, espically the movies. The music and sound is also amazing. I mean, the song at the begginning is my all-time favorite song from videogame! The limit breaks in this game are a lot more useful then past and present Final FAntasy's. If you need a great game, buy FF8!!!!!!!!

THIS IS THE MOST CHALLENGING AND OVERALL EBGROSSING GAME THAT I HAVE EVER PLAYED!!!27429

Tiffany Martinez from Sparks,Nevada Usa says (8/Jul/2003):
those of you that have never played this game are completely missing out!The graphics are awesome and the short moives completely tie in with the game. The draw syatem I find is the best, simply because in the other games each player can only have certain magic and ususaly I only use one or two of them for common battles, but in ff8 whoever or all can have powerful spells like ultima and moeter. And the way the gfs are mixed in the with the game I find is just great, you have to draw fight solve puzzels and the fact that they are extremwly important to your game because if you don't have at least one junction with some magic then you'll have a tough time.Oh and just to tell you I've every ps final fantasy several times(except 10 way too simple for me!)I've played ff8 the most(going on 8xs) and I still love it and want to play it again and again! One last point the R1 tringer makes the battles less well boring and simple.Oh and the relationships in the game is what got me hooked and I think the next final fantasy should follow 8 more.

A Wonderful Game27254

A gamer from Petal, MS, USA says (6/Jul/2003):
I believe Final Fantasy VIII to be one of the best in it's series and genre. The storyline was wonderful and very touching. :tear: The graphics were pretty good in my opinion. The music was simply beautiful. Especially the opening song ,that was my absolute favorite. The replay value I believe is high. I never get tired of replaying through the whole game because everything was simply wonderful. I actually liked the whole battle system and junction. This system was easier than FF 7. I really liked all the side quests the game had to offer. I also liked Triple Triad, I thought it was a fun card game(once you have good cards it's fun beating everyone else) Though I did have my qualms with the game. The fact that there were no voices to the characters irked me a little. The ending in a way upset me, too. It was sort of abrupt and left a person wanting more. I also thought the whole villain thing was a little confusing because she didn't have any reason for being evil. She was just evil. The game also became too easy when Squall was leveled up. All in all, the blend of memorable characters, beautiful music and interesting adventures comes together and makes a wonderful video game...FF 8.

Many faults24807

Poo head from LandO'lakes florida USA says (5/Jun/2003):
I don't think the game was that great because you can't learn abilities like you can in final fantasy X. Once you run out of a certain spell, you have to go travel the world to find it again. I do like the feature that you can control the things you are transported in. Magic in this game is soooo weak, though the magic the bosses use, mysteriously happens to be about 4Xs as strong. When you summon a GF, the GF uses one move and flees. HELLO! What could the gf had been doing that was so important except saving the peoples life. Your phsical attack is also weak! Gfs are pretty much all you can do that will kill things. And you dont have a clue what the characters sound like. Yup you can't hear the voices of any of the characters throughout the game. another thing, you cant go back to the good graphics that you also canin ff X. i make files that have good graphics on them and then dont save over them. The battle mode is too realistic! If you dont make a move in 4seconds, the monster will attack you! This makes it crushal that you make up your mind in boss fights. In cunclusion, there is a lack of graphic viewing, voice hearing, damage done in phsical attacks and magic, and the time given for choosing an attack. These faults can be frustrating at times. Oh and one last thing, people say the graphics are great but most of the time, they aren't. Like when your walking around, squall looks like some sort of super nintendo graphics. I hope this is under 200 words. This game could of been a whole lot better.

Great game- one of the best23041

A gamer from Brighton, England says (7/May/2003):
I think all the characters are great- they look real which is the best bit. The graphics are amazing, especially the battles, when you use the magic. The dream sequences are a bit boring though; you just want to get on with the game. Some bosses are quite hard and will take a few tries. My advice, take your time building up your levels e.t.c, rather than just trying to rush through the game; I haven't completed it yet- I'm up to Adel- the problem being, I've depended too much on GFs, so my level is only about 37- and you can't use GFs on Adel or Rinoa will die. So, I've started again. I've started Final Fantasy IX- shame the characters aren't more human like VIII, but hopefully it'll be good. Final Fantasy XIII is a great game, and is definitely worth buying.

Wow, what a good game22963

A gamer from usa says (6/May/2003):
I love this game! The Story-Line is the greatest of any game I have ever seen. I love the junctioning system because it rewards you greatly for knowing how to do. To those of you who are dogging the game due to the dependency on GF's, you are wrong. All you need to do is junction them to use their ability junctions (ie Str-J). I haven't used a GF in battle since Shiva against Ifrit. It's really not that hard. And another little tip, Item Refinement is the way to go!

THIS IS THE MOST SWEETEST GAME IN THE WORLD22582

A gamer from Australia says (30/Apr/2003):
I love it. I love it, I love it, I love it. To the CGI's to the touching sceen's on the Ragnarok, this game is the best. Who could hate it. Well Chilly Willy would, but he's just stupid and has a rod up his butt that has a rod up it's butt[ yes I got this from The Simpsons]. Buy this game. Don't give a hoot about the price, ir just rent it or something, just get your hands on this game.

THE ABSOLUTE BEST IN EVERY WAY IT KICKS ASS!!!!21770

oly johnson ff 8 extroudinaire from nuneaton englan UK says (20/Apr/2003):
Final Fantasy 8 was the abolute best Final Fantasy game I've ever played I'm not at the end yet I havent been able to beat Adel probably because I never upgrade my weapons and i all ways have Squall Zell and Rinoa in my team all the others are crap! and Rinoa gets caried away so I have to choose a crappy one I dont like fighting adel because I have to sacrifise my Squall card to stand a chance but the graphics are the best and beleve me Ive played all the ff games and in my opinian not 1 of them can compare to ff 8
I like It mostly because it has the best abilities the story is exellent and for once youre tall enough to be a propper looking cadet instead of just about 2 feet tall I like how Squall starts off as a git who never exepts help but then he meets Rinoa and starts to change and eventualy remembers how he was as a kid To all you who think FF 8 is crap I hate you all and think the lot of you shud be hauled to a Nut house!!! Youre lucky you decided not to put your E mail adress on your revew or youd get hate mail like crazy as for me I like it best because its most realistic and I like the way Squall and rinoa start slowly connecting a shame Squall dies at the end i wanted it to be siefer realy its by no doubt the best game ever sucks to all you who dont like it the music is DA bomb espesialy the battle music you get when U play as Laguna the gameplay is absolutly the best in the million to one chance of there being a better game I still would recomend this one I don't beleve they made a sequal to ff 10 I am infuriated by the fact they didnt make a sequal to tis one in my school locker I have every ff8 picture ever put on the internet when I looked in the playstation whats hot and whats not magazine this was at the top damn all you who dont like it to Hell!!! If you havent got the game and you see it in the shops you buy it it is so original I just wish that all the ff's where sequals to this one

What Fantasy?21512

Bloody Vixen from Malaysia says (17/Apr/2003):
Now when I first heard this game, that was from a friend, I thought that it was a funtastical, amazingly made game, considering the reviews and the nice beautiful graphics I saw througout the internet, but like the term don't jugde a book by its cover, the game, well let's just say is nerve-wrecking-time-consuming-jaded that will send anyone begging on their knees just to kill the stupid and too repetitive usage of the guardian forces. If you had never played this any Final Fantasy series or any RPG game before, or posess the patience of a Buddha, please stay away from this title. As for the veterans of the gaming world, Final Fantasy 8 should fit like a glove. The only thing that made me going on for the game is the magnificient FMV and the semi-romantic story of Rinoa and Squall. Though Squaresoft should really ditch the I'm-a-dark-past-don't-care-attitude-hero because Squall really gets on the nerves aside from the GF and Junction system. The re-play value is quite low, because the fact that in the end I just wanted to end the game as quickly as possible. There is not a main villain here since the last and final battle between Ultimecia would leave you pondering why is it again that you have to kill the person and the storyline could get very-VERY confusing in the way. So if you're new to this RPG-thing don't try FF8 less you own again the patience of a buddha, and the IQ of 200 to come by.

Nearly as good as its predecessor>21297

Craig Menne from Imperial, Missouri says (14/Apr/2003):
FF8 is one of the best games I have ever played. As a fan of the series I would have to rate this as my second favorite game, behind only by the gift from god Final Fanatsy 7, and the ending is second only to Final Fantasy 10's. FF8 has a great storyline although it is lacking at times.I really didn't care for the prison escape to much, among few other scenes.I didn't really believe the games story didn't pick up the pace up til' the assassination mission begins on disk one. I really liked how the pulled off the love story between Squall and Rinoa, they did a very good job in this aspect.Nobou Uemetsu's tracks of Liberi Fatali and Eyes on Me are two of my favorite tracks in the entire series, the only one I like more is One Winged Angel from Final Fantasy 7. The CG cutscenes was some of the best ever seen for its time, also some of the most memorable. Then one of the best parts of the game is the ending sequence, the whole thing being set to Eyes on Me is great and I'm not afraid to admit it but it almost made me cry. This game is a must have to all Final Fantasy Fans.

WOO-HOO20999

Seifer-Almasy from Conwy, Wales says (10/Apr/2003):
Final fantasy 8..... the ABSOLUTELY BEST EVER GAME I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. Im playing it through for the fifth time now. Every time i have got to the end boss, even at lvl 100 i cant beat the end boss, but maybe thats because i cant get all my skills back :s. if you havent played this, and like RPG's, you absoulutely 100% must buy it, there is no point renting it, because untill you can buy it, you will go crazy for it :)

One of Squaresoft's best games, next to FF7.21011

Tom from Loves Park, Illinois United States says (10/Apr/2003):
Final Fanasty 8 well what can I say about a great game? the battle sequencing is better than another one. The way the GF's come out is great. i didn't really like the little chcobo forests. I thought they were a waste of time. Getting some of the GF's was a hassle. Getting Odin,Bahamut,Tonberry King, and Eden were a few.
