The only advice I got for you closedminded FF7 fanboys is that you better deal with change because not all games are gonna be the same. To me a different battle system, story, and characters are a good thing(in most cases). It gives you more exsprience as gamer and it also makes it easier to play different games. But if you don't want to like this game, it's fine, whatever. Just don't ruin it anyone else. Let them make up their own mind instead of pushing your opinions on them.

I've been playing it for only a year, but I've finished it four times. (Unfortunatly, I have never beat Omega, yet. I'm going to try this time, currently I'm on my fifth time through and just about to go into Balamb, Galbadia have just invaded looking for Ellone.)
I absolutely love the Balamb Garden, Deling City and Eyes on Me songs. The Liberi Fatali one is also fantastic.
I agree that VII and IX are very good, but none will ever compare to VIII. Sorry, it's just the way it is. To all the reviews I read on VIII's side, can't be bothered listening the names, your reviews were all fantastic. xD
I just love the fact that Squall is changed over the course of the first three discs, although, I think it would be rather nice if he was with Selphie.. Him and her are my favorite characters. She WOULD be a bit of a handful for him though, wouldn't she? So hyper.. xP
The only character I dislike (No offense to her fans) was Quistis. For some reason, which I don't know, she came across to me as $#< remove me > at !y and bossy, like she always wanted her own way. Although, I think that makes her perfect for Seifer. It always seemed to me as though FFVIII fans had these perfect couples in mind: Squall, Rinoa. Selphie, Irvine. Xu, Zell. (For anyone who DOESN'T know who Xu is, it's the girl who helps everyone evacuate the Garden in disc 2, she's also the Heart in the CC Quest.) And then Quistis, Seifer. Oh, and Edea, Cid. But to me (my deranged point of view) it would always be Squall, Selphie. Zell, Rinoa. Irvine, Quistis. I don't know why, but I think they'd all fit together perfectly.. xDDD
Anyway. Here ends my review. THUMBS UP FOR SQUARENIX MAKING THIS GOD-SENT GAME! WE LOVE YOU! Please find a way to make a sequel.. you'd make crap loads of money, because I know I'd definetly buy it no matter what the ratings were.

Never before has a game ceopt me on my playstation for more than about 200 hours gameplay. There is just so much too do. The battles are really kool and the idea of GFs is amazing. They are better than finale fantasy sevens summons coz you can use tham more than once. The magic is really kool and instead of waiting to collect magic you can draw it from random enemies and boss;s. There are 17 gfs in total ( 16 if you havent got secret gf greaver) and you usually have to beat them to claim them or draw them from boss's. Some times you can collect them. The weapons rae kool but there not as good as in finale fantsy 7 because you carnt have as many variations and you have too collect items to make them. The gfs now have powers with them which increase your players life,speed,vitality,strengh etc. You can also eventually fly in new cooler viercles like th ragnarok which is a flying space craft and is very fast. You can trvel by train, car or in the flying garden ( a skool that floats). At the minute after about a year i have now collected every thing on the game and god there is a lot. I carnt tell youhow much coz there is loads of items,magic,weapons,gfs,characters,gf powers and loads more.
This game is great for rpg lovers. All square games are kool but you must have lots of patence because there is lots of talking and story too take in and ill admit most of the talking takes bloody age but when you have jsut done a hard boss you welcome a break so it really doesnt bother me. BUY IT NOW its the best game for playstation. ( i own a gamecube as well and square are making finale fantasy crystle chronicles for it so get a gamecube).

The gameplay was awsome the fmv sequences the graphics where incredible (for all you people who say the graphics sucks, its beacause like that other person said its a PS1!) where terrific and almost life like the game was truley original, each of the characters were really interesting and the best thing about the game is the music i think it has the best music out of all the other final fantasy games out there. Liberati Fatali(I think thats how you spell it) is a fantastic fmv its perfect for a starting mini movie. The storyline was great and was always intresting because there are many unexpected twist and surpises in the plot. There was one crappy thing in the game though it was whe I had to go looking for the white seed ship it took me forever untill i finallly found it. I was gonna buy final fantasy 9 because i thought it might be like final fantasy 8 but boy was i ever wrong. From what I've heard it sucked big time.
I saw on this tv show about video gaes that Square Soft is making a sequel to Final fantasy 7 i saw a preview for it and it was awsome but a sequel for final fantasy 8 would be much better especially if it was made for the xbox cause thats the only next generation system that i have (i wonder how many words i have now)Also the game had great GFs espcially Odin and has anybody here beaten omega weapon? if yes please tell me uless ur one of those final fantasy 8 haters.

Firstly the plot: The plot is confusing at best- for the idotic it goes like this: Evil sorcess controled by future sorcress who is using present evil sorcress to try and find someone from the present to "compress" time. Got it? If you understand that you need professional help and were not talking about your family GP here!
Main Characters: Squall- angry,loner,serious guy, whos having wierd dreams ( not THOSE sort of dreams ) He is joined by Instructor Quitis Trepe and Zell Dinch, a loud mouth but caring martial arts expert. Later in the game he is joined by Seifer (he turns evil, just thought you should know.) Selphie, Irivine and Rhiona ( Chris:Rhiona's a stiffner. Adam:Damn right)So anyway they set of to kill the sorcress (except Seifer cause hes evil remember?)To cut a really long story short they dont kill the sorcess, Squall becomes captin of the womens football team... i mean the captin of the garden, he fall in love with Rhiona aaaaahhhh bless!!!
The graphics are an improvememt on FF7, a big improvement and the cut scenes are breathtaking as you would expect from any game in the FF series
The musical score is awe inspiring. It is worth any Hollywood blockbuster. (unlike a certin harbour full of pearls which was blown up during WW2 no names being said!!!)
Lastley superimposeing Rhiona's head on nude womens bodies will leave you happy but will leave your girlfriends very angry

I agree with the guy who talked about how the Junction system sucks and is annoying. I mean on FFVII you could just use and Ether if you MP run out but on FF8 if you run out of a certain type of magic 1) it lowers you stats and 2) you have to run across the world trying to find the monster from which you nicked the magic from. It's just stupid.
the end music sounds like the crap that my old Pokemon gameboy games played. btw who around here managed to get to ultemcia's last form on 1HP after like 45 mins of using strong magic and then ultemicia suddenly gets pissed, uses like 5 strong moves in a row and beats the crap out of you, because that's what happened to me. THe last battle is just way to long and boooooring. I'm gonna have to go waste another 45 mins of my life trying to beat ultemicia just to see the end movie- because that's the main reason why i actually keep playing the game..

amzing graphics (for a ps1 game)
great junction system
amazing gf's
fantastic weapons (espicialy the lion heart)
great limit breaks
interesting characters
and of corse a great story line!
i think it is completely original because have u heard any thing like a student training to be a mercenary ending up fighting a sorceress and saving the world? cause i sure havn't. the main boss opennent's are really hard but thats what makes it interesting and challenging imean if all the bosses were easy we'd think it was a really boring game instead of the great game it really is. i think the hardesd opponent is not ultimecia or ultimate weapon, i think its omega weapon. i had all ,y people at level 100, had all their best weapons, had all the gf's, all junctions to each of them and i think ihad every kind of magic juntioned and he still manged to beat me with just a amazing two hits! TWO HITS! which has never been done to me before so if you have any pointers i would really apreiciate it. my favoriite character is squall because he's a bit like me a quiet person who keeps to him self and trys not to show others his true feelings. my favorite limit break is the lion heart it looks so cool, kicks ass and does a hell of a lot of damage. i want to rap this review up by saying ff8 rules! e-mail me and give me your reviews.

| GREAT GAME...AMAZING RPG......BUT...... | | [XYZ] from Toronto, Canada says (31/Jan/2001): | Let me start out by saying that FF8 is an excellent RPG but it in NO WAY compares to FF7. The only thing that FF8 has over FF7 is graphics and that means very little when deciding upon whether or not a game is worthy of your time. For its all really about gameplay and fun. Now let me just state, I think FF8 is an amazing RPG and a great game BUT in no possible way is it the greatest RPG EVER or for that matter the greatest Final Fantasy ever. The winner of both of those titles is undoubtably FF7. What bothered me with FF8? Well the battles honestly took FOREVER, all u rely on is the GF's and their sequences take years. This is especially true when you run into random battles and you want a quick kill. Beware though you'll be in certain meaningless areas for HOURS, it was starting to piss me off. Also the story and character development was suspect and didnt really capture me like FF7's did. I remember WANTING to play through 7 but i found myself in some ares forcing or labouring through 8. To put it plainly sometimes it bored me. Also, the card game was a mess throughout, thats my only comment about that area of the game.
But the game did have some great points. The graphics were awesome, CG's amazing and the junction and draw systems were innovative and different. And by no means am i trying to imply that this game is horrible. It is a spectacular RPG, worthy of a play. Its just not the greatest ever and it was bothering me when people here stated that because when compared to FF7, FF7 just towers over it.

Once you run out of a certain spell, you have to go travel the world to find it again. I do like the feature that you can control the things you are transported in. Magic in this game is soooo weak, though the magic the bosses use, mysteriously happens to be about 4Xs as strong. When you summon a GF, the GF uses one move and flees. HELLO! What could the gf had been doing that was so important except saving the peoples life. Your phsical attack is also weak! Gfs are pretty much all you can do that will kill things. And you dont have a clue what the characters sound like. Yup you can't hear the voices of any of the characters throughout the game. another thing, you cant go back to the good graphics that you also canin ff X. i make files that have good graphics on them and then dont save over them. The battle mode is too realistic! If you dont make a move in 4seconds, the monster will attack you! This makes it crushal that you make up your mind in boss fights. In cunclusion, there is a lack of graphic viewing, voice hearing, damage done in phsical attacks and magic, and the time given for choosing an attack. These faults can be frustrating at times. Oh and one last thing, people say the graphics are great but most of the time, they aren't. Like when your walking around, squall looks like some sort of super nintendo graphics. I hope this is under 200 words. This game could of been a whole lot better.
| Not the Best RPG, but good enough | | 2GOOD4U from Fantasy Land says (15/Sep/2001): | Final Fantasy 8 is nowhere near FF7, and to what I've heard so far some of the earlier ones too. But giving this less than a 10 is worthless, because if you like any RPG you can probably find at least a few good hours in this. It may not be as good as some of the other games, but it's still a lot of fun. There's some wierd scenes, that completely turn you off, like the dancing sequence, but once you get used to it, you will quite like it. But then most other people absolutely love it. But it's relevant to the story so I don't complain.
The story is different to other FF games, for all the main characters are the same age, and there are only six you can use really, although you have a taste of another five characters, this doesn't have to be a negative thing, after all it's a good change from all the other FF's out.
The graphics are great, not that I care but you might.
The musics, well, it doesn't have songs as memerable as the ones in FF7, but it's of good quality as always.
The story's pretty good, with some depth.
Replayability, just like any other RPG, you can play it over and over, to your hearts content, and not get bored. What I do sometimes is keep saves of parts of the game that are great fun and just go back to them when I want, like the train scene.
Overall, it's great doesn't need anything else, if someone gets bored, which I hardly think will happen easily, sooner or later you'll have that dream thing for a good change of scenery.

FF7 and FF9 were the best ones ive played for playstation , but FF8 was just awful. The graphics were ok and so were the summons but the game doesnt grab your attention. AS i said before FF7 and FF9 are the only ones worth buying because FF8 is just a ripoff. The juctioning and use of magic werent any good and towards the middle of the game you just want to quit because the story was so lame. I've been having debates with my brother that Cloud or Zidane can kill Squall without a problem. I mean look at his weopon , a gunblade , Cloud can whoop him just with the buster sword. Man i even think squall is gay the best things about this game is the summons graphics and cut scenes. Also Laguna Kiros and seifer were the best characters in the whole game . I'm tellin ya guys this game is nothin good. Especially the ending , youd hope for something happy and exciting since the game was sucky but nooo. If someone gives me this game for christmas or somethin id rather stomp it into the ground. that is why i give it only one star just because cluod can beat Squall up and piss on him when hes dead. Oh and remember that Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children is coming out soon so get ready to watch it.thats my review about this game and i think you shouldnt waste yur time playin it ( especially the half hour floating in space )PEACE

I got soooo attached to each and every character in this game. Especially Squall(sigh...I wish there were real guys who looked like him)can U say HOT! In fact, I almost feel like I know them personally. That is what I find most attractive in this RPG.The story is also beautiful. Words cannot comprehend it! The romance in the story is very touching too. I am a hardcore addict to this game and am so happy to have found this site! In fact, I am inspired to start the game over tonight. To all those who have quit playing FF VIII due to being discouraged, try again! There are some tough places, but it does get better I promise you. I got so discouraged once I quit playing for five months and nearly threw the game away. I experienced a rush of emotion the first time I beat the game. I cried for a few minutes because I was so sad it was over. Then hopped up and shouted,"Booyaka! In your face FF club! I told you I could beat this game!!!". I was positvely glowing for weeks after. Any game that can make someone feel that way has to be phenominal! If I could, I would buy everyone a Playstation and FF VIII so that they to, could enter the wonderful and enchanting world of FINAL FANTASY EIGHT!
| One of the Best | | MoonShadow from Sydney says (16/Sep/2005): | FF8 was my first rpg game. After seeing a friend summon a GF it looked so amazing. once i started I was hooked. At first it looked very hard, but once i started getting use to junctioning I never called on a GF again. I got most of my characters STATs to 255 exept for luck and something else cant remember. The love story is great. I liked Rinoa, but i really liked Squall. He has a personality which i could understand. I think the difficulty level of this game was pretty low, since 2 lionhearts will kill anything(and you can make it come out pretty often) except for the secret monster in the castle. I had to actually fight that one using a strategy.
The graphics was really good (for it's time), and I really love the music, especiall the scene when they first got into ragnarak ( my favourite scene). I dont use magic often when playing FF games (only healing) but once you get your stats high enough( like I did) you could actually get more than 9999 damage in 1 turn without using overdrive(??? its been a while), so magic is really powerfull. There are a lot of tricks when juctioning to make you players immune to a lot of things and also absorb spells if done right. Actuallyh i thought FF7 was a little bit more difficult, probably because you have to level the materias which took a long time to do.
Over all I loved this game(along with FF7 and FFX), but didnt like
FF9 or FFX-2, but this is a deffinit must buy.
| ff8 is purely the best ff out there. | | dey from corona,ca,us says (20/Dec/2005): | This game was perfect, never played better one in my life, and to the dumbnut up ther who said it sucked just because he couldnt beat ultimecia, get a life, train a little and know that ff7 was nothing compared to ff8 because it had main characters who didn't change over the whole storyline, it's storyline sucked, and there was never a twist or turn over the whole fricken story. If you want a story where you can actually choose any path for the story or want to have a game where you are not talking to a wall, try ff8 it is the best of them, oh and for the idiot that says the whole junction system sucks, it's just a step up from materia you numbnut so unless you want to diss your own stupid game, and im not sayin that I wouldn't play ff7 but seriously consider that square-enix might have made 7 before 8 and that that would mean unless their crazy 8 would be better.
Oh and for any xbox 360 fans buying the $#< remove me > at !ty bug filled crap Microsoft is sending out, take a good look at the damn controller look familiar, c’mon im sure your head’s not completely empty, see it yet? Look a little harder? That’s right it’s a white ps2 controller, so stop dissin sony. Microsoft only went into the gaming business to prove they were they best, the only problem, their not and nothing is going to change the fact that no matter how much you kiss that 360 itont love you back
| What Fantasy? | | Bloody Vixen from Malaysia says (17/Apr/2003): | Now when I first heard this game, that was from a friend, I thought that it was a funtastical, amazingly made game, considering the reviews and the nice beautiful graphics I saw througout the internet, but like the term don't jugde a book by its cover, the game, well let's just say is nerve-wrecking-time-consuming-jaded that will send anyone begging on their knees just to kill the stupid and too repetitive usage of the guardian forces. If you had never played this any Final Fantasy series or any RPG game before, or posess the patience of a Buddha, please stay away from this title. As for the veterans of the gaming world, Final Fantasy 8 should fit like a glove. The only thing that made me going on for the game is the magnificient FMV and the semi-romantic story of Rinoa and Squall. Though Squaresoft should really ditch the I'm-a-dark-past-don't-care-attitude-hero because Squall really gets on the nerves aside from the GF and Junction system. The re-play value is quite low, because the fact that in the end I just wanted to end the game as quickly as possible. There is not a main villain here since the last and final battle between Ultimecia would leave you pondering why is it again that you have to kill the person and the storyline could get very-VERY confusing in the way. So if you're new to this RPG-thing don't try FF8 less you own again the patience of a buddha, and the IQ of 200 to come by.
