Stunning AND could be better33745

Eric the Red from Republic of Mancunia says (20/Oct/2003):
This game is for real football fans. If you want fancy-looking graphics and a title sequence that goes on all day but rubbish, unrealistic gameplay then go and buy FIFA. If you want realism and a game of football the way it was intended to be played, then buy this.
Everyone seems to agree that the graphics on ISS are crap - but I ask you to take a second look. Look at Paul Scholes, Beckham, Owen, Dyer, Henry, Carlos - they look, run and kick JUST like their real-life counterparts! They're even different heights, something which games like Fifa have never realised (Scholes the same height as Ferdinand in Fifa).
Also, a player's preferred foot really makes a difference, which means you have to try and get it on the favoured one to shoot. Just try shooting with Giggs's right foot - another slice of realism as it bobbles slowly to the keeper!

Having said that, there are some areas for improvement. For a start, the way the players, when muscled off the ball, stand around for 5 seconds like Emile Heskey has to be changed. Also, you can't do a long range shot along the ground. A perfectly-timed sliding tackle nearly always results in a booking and the PS2 is a dirty b*stard!
Hopefully they'll iron these things out with ISSPE3 - I hear injured players will have bandages on wrists and legs, hair will flow more, players will get muddy. All fine and dandy but let us score with a daisy-cutter and I'll die a happy man.

Just one last thing - the standard of English on some of these posts is downright shocking. 'Iratating', 'reliese', 'appauling', 'the ball roled passed' - do none of you read or what?

This Game Is Wicked.41053

Liam from North Hykeham, Lincoln, England says (28/May/2004):
I bought this game when it first came out and have played on it for over 1000 hours altogether. I reckon its the best football game to be released, but now that PES3 has came out it seems like an even better game.
If you have PES2 here are a few tips and good players to buy, If you have it for PS1 this is.
Popovic - Defence - Australia
Mutu - Striker - Romania
R Carlos - Defender - Navarra, Brazil
Kanu - Striker - London, Nigeria
Babandiga - Winger - Nigeria, I think
for a better cross press your cross button when near goal line twice, quickly. It will put a faster ball into the box and can trick a lot of defenders. And if your head gets on it you can score quite an easy goal. Kanu is good when you have a corner but the ball so its too high for the defence to jump up to, then kanu can do a perfect header straight into the back of the net.

I play Babandiga in defence and he tackles nearly every1 but if they do get past him he just runs back to tackle them because he has got top speed. And Viera is good to get to play in DMF (Defensive Midfield) his corners are great.
If you havent got this or PES3 BUY THEM NOW!!!!!!!!

It Was ALMOST A Great Game That Has Everything16495

Steve-A-Roonie from Cardiff !!! says (28/Jan/2003):
Let me begin by saying that i absolutely love this game..despite its little glitches because simply there is nothing out there that comes close to it. A long time admirer of the ISS series and then have made the natural progression to the latest franchise. I will try to put something on this board which i havent read so far. To the game itself. It has made advancements on the first game. When tackled i no longer feel the frustration of watching my player seemingly paralysed on the screen. Although in this new incarnation i have noticed that there is a similar problem when the player is thrown sideways off the ball (very annoying) but all part and parcel of the game, but it would be nice to see it rectified fully for PES3 i think. The commentary, well what can anyone say about this which hasnt been said already ? We all know it, its just downright poor. Thinking back its an improvement on the first game but that doest really take much. No great achievement on the commentary then. Also the music which accompanies the replays is nothing short of mind numbingly awful. I often find myself playing with the tv muted and music on to prevent from putting myself through the ordeal. It seems to me that the players runs, while slightly improved from PES are still leaving somewhat to be desired. At times it is spot on, but too often i wonder how the likes of Zidane and Ronaldo are making the worlds crappest runs ever. It makes no sense. The computer ai does not do much to impress either, too often i find that the game seems to flow in an obvious pattern, with me attacking and the computer blasting a long clearance forward and me building another attack from defence, consequently 9 games out of 10 go one way only super human goalkeeping seems to make any difference in matches.
On a number of occasions it seems the passing mechanisim was designed by the devil itself as seemingly more often than not the computer chooses the more difficult passing option. Fortunately manual passing can aid this annoyance over time, but for beginners is probably not the best option. The new master league format is greatly improved and is a welcome change from the pretty basic fromat experienced in the first outing, with improved league structure and cup competitions. The ability to edit team names and information is also another handy new feature as it has meant that i can finally play as Arsenal and not London, while Europort can once again be Liverpool and so on. Onto my biggest grievence, Emile Heskey can actually score on the game, which isnt a reflection of real life ! Its still the best out there, wipes the floor with fifa but still has a long way to go before it is the total game that many people feel it can become.

We all know its good points, but lets look at what needs CHANGING! BADLY!20910

A gamer from Nottingham, England. says (9/Apr/2003):
  1) You cannot DRIVE the ball! The result is that loose balls (from corners etc) that come out to the holding midfield player can only be hit with the instep and as a result you must sacrifice either power or accuracy.
2)Similarly you cannot hit a shot with full power and NO HEIGHT unless you want to use CIRCLE. Same applies for free kicks.
3)Their ideas of fair tackles vary hugely from FIFA's or the FA. This game should be more CONTACT.
4)Commentary, obviously, laughable. Just because he missed, Trevor, it doesn't make you a liar.
5)A lack of 'skill'. You cannot nearly do everything that you could in real life. It isn't a big ask for them to include a few extra moves after all they've done.
6)As someone mentioned the habit players have of backing off, or waiting for the ball. Frustrating.
7)Players are too poorly balanced.Being muscled off the ball WOULD NOT result in you being incapacitated for the next 5 seconds!!!
8)Injuries can only be sustained through a SLIDE TACKLE! WHY?? In actuality most are sustained through over-stretching or just running.

The BEST ps game I ever played - TOO GOOD !28866

Clizmael from Siggiewi, Malta says (29/Jul/2003):
I'm a great fan of Football and so when I went to buy a ps1 CD I had to select a football CD game. Atv first I was going to buy the Fifa because it was one of the most popular. But as I saw someone playing the ISS Pro Evolution, I soon bought it. When I new that the ISS 2 was invented , I soon bought it and realised that this was better. But now that the ISS 3 is made, I want to buy the ps2 so that I would play it.
The ISS Pro Evolution 2 is the best game I ever played on the ps1. The graphics are super and the controls are excellent. The Master League makes the ISS more enthusiastic because one can create his own team. The other leagues are O.K. too. The Edit mode has very vast items to select and the best is that you can create your own player. The Classic and All-Stars teams were a good idea to enjoy because you can buy these players to and enter them in your Master League team (Note that these teams are shown in the ISS only by using the cheats).
But I think that if the ISS will include also the Champions League(playing with the real team - not with Castello or Miranda etc...) it will be better.
The supporters in the game are very good. Also, the players have a very real aspect. The dribbling is also good and easy to use.
The ISS 3 is better because it has more teams in the ML, lately players, and one can select the Expert difficulty because the Hard difficulty is too easy.
There is no footbal game in the world, for example the Fifa, that is better than the ISS Pro Evolution 2.

ISS Pro Evolution 24137

A cool dude from USA says (25/Oct/2001):
This is the best soccer game ever to hit the Playstation! It's even better than Fifa and the first ISS Pro Evoulution!Every player is an all-star #1 player at soccer so thats cool.It has every player in the whole soccer world! The very bad players, the okay players, the good players, the great players and the superb players so that makes this a winner but thats only oner reason....Now heres my other reasons. It has awesome graphics, you can tell each player from another and thats a big improvement over last years game.Plus the booklet(the thing with the front cover)has a few profiles about the best players and now i know more about them!!!The soccer balls are easy to see, they dont blend into the grass like other soccer games and plus its fun as hell. They have every team on the whole soccer world and that makes it an awesome game so far.It has real logos such as Nike(TM),A.D.I.D.A.S.(TM),Pony(TM) and way more so many i cant even name them all.Now its radical so far.Plus they can talk! You dont have to read those stupid words on the stupid screen. This game goes great with pizza and beer,at night too!The music is PHATTT!!!!Its so awesome.Plus the season mode takes you all over the world such as London,Spain,Canada,United States Of America,United Kingdom(UK) and so much more. And the soccer fields look so real you will wonder if your watching tv or playing a video game and it even looks more real than WWF Smackdown!2.Well maybe not better but you can capare them and youll see what i mean. Its very addictive too yoll play it all night and all day and you wont want to quit.Buy it its worth it.

The, And I mean THE, Best football game EVER!4185

A Footabll Fan from Liverpool, England says (28/Oct/2001):
I was a FIFA fan, I htought FIFA was great and that the ISS games were crap. One day, I bought a PlayStation Magazine, they had the demo of ISS Pro Evo 2, and I was hooked! It's so real, and it's even better now that they have the real names of the players! A couple of bad points though, you can do Exhibition Matches with club sides and in the Master League mode the have called Arsenal "London" when in actual fact there are about 10 football teams in London. Otherwise it's great. It's better than FIFA because you don't end up with ridiculos score lines like 26-0 (My highest FIFA score) but I ended up with 9-1 (My highest ISS score, and I've only had the game two days!) Put it this way. FIFA- Bad ISS Pro Evolution 2- GREAT Buy ISS TODAY!!!

The Greatest football game yet!4316

Azz from Bolton, Greater Manchester, UK says (6/Nov/2001):
I have been playing ISS Pro Evolution for ages now and I still havent got bored of it yet, It is a great game with Superb Graphics, The game play is so real that I makes the game so enjoyable, they could be a few changed made to any future ISS games, Like the names of the Master League teams, and they could try and make it a bit more realistic by doing what This is Football 2 have done, When I say this I mean make some of the players hand ball it! Other than that I would pick ISS before any other Playstation game, If you havent played it then go and get it, you won't be dissapointed.

how is this better than pro evo 2!?!?!5321

Mike Addison from Stockport, Manchester, England says (17/Jan/2002):
When i heard that there was a ps2 version of pro evolution soccer I thought there was no way it could have been better than pro evo 2 on the psone - but luckily I was proved wrong!! Yes, there are flaws in some areas of the gameplay - it doesn't always give you control of the right player and 1 in 20 passes don't go where you would like them too, but the rest of the game is nothing short of phenomenal... for every 4-3 thriller there is a 0-0 bore draw, for every 30 yard Veron top corner screamer there's a six yard van Nistelrooy tap in - just 'cause the games lacking a few player names does not take away the value of the playability - besides, if you take 20 minutes you can edit all the false player names. Trust me, if you like football - and I stress FOOTBALL (not 'soccer' as is the preffered transatlantic name) buy this game!!! You will not be dissapointed.

Nothing comes close!5953

David Charlton from Stratford upon Avon says (24/Feb/2002):
Since a friend introduced me to ISS one, I have been hooked! ISS Pro Evolution 2 is better! All my other PSX games are getting dusty on the shelf. The skill involved and the feel of real football is something I have never experienced in a game before. A couple of years on and we are still shuttling between each others houses playing 2 player mode. Just like real football we can get 0-0 draws and sometimes 4-0 wins. BUY IT IF YOU HAVE'NT ALREADY!

Lets not overreact6760

SJoerd Dijkstra from Groningen, Holland says (4/Apr/2002):
I think we all agree ISS Pro etc. is a great game. In fact, I think it is the best sports game ever made. But am I the only one that sees a major BUT here? I mean sure the gameplay is great and everything, but the menu's and music and commentary and everything really suck. And it's also very annoying that every time you start a match, you have to check the line ups because the default line ups really suck. But the important thing is that the soccer part of the game (the only important part of the game) really kicks ass.

Good, but not good enough7671

Jamie Furlong from Harrogate says (6/Jun/2002):
This game i thought had everything. Super gameplay, although the players are square and the commentry is poor it still rates much better than any FIFA 'till 2010 if they carry on going the way they are. Despite this, I realized that there is too little to do. You get a choice of Master League or League. This is not enough! There should be real tournaments, cups, and better music! It is still the best footy game on the PSOne but compared to This is Football 2002 on the PS2 this is nothing. Realistic options such as diving and many more teams should be added to ISS 2 just as this is football 2002 has. A good game, but may gather some dust.

Stunnin'10662

ISS Legend from Glasgow says (26/Oct/2002):
ISS 2 is just simply THE best footy game for the games console ever! it beats any FIFA and any other $hit-hand made games like 'this is football'. Obviously the editors need to give the music a little more thinking along with the commentry, but other than that the little gooks have got it spot on!

If it aint broken why fix it!10764

Richie from Plymouth, England says (30/Oct/2002):
I waited 6 months for the games release, waited outside before store opened, it was raining and I think I'd finally lost it. Traded old game off the value and went home with a smile. Only to discover they had dropped my fav R2 dribble on previous version, nooo I thought. At times players seem to dribble away without ball at feet. Is this game finished I thought, who was testing for these bugs? A game that sells more copies than any other football game yet still cant have correct team names. Well thats all thats bad, whats good is.. Freedom of passing, the ability to run into space is amazing. More Master league teams, strp design, team edits. The list goes on. The most impressive feature has to be the advanced AI. Now if your team has a narrow lead in the 80 minute, expect an onslaught as the COM team boosts its attack to full. "clear it, kick it out"! Great game, could be better!

Better Than Fifa12159

Pat Ahern from Farran,Co.Cork, Ireland. says (1/Dec/2002):
Once Again konami bring us the best soccer game ever.however it has made some good and bad changes.Firstly Peter Brackley Is better but they counteract this by putting trevor brooking and his highly annoying voice in.Secondly the players touch on the ball is more realistic makin it better but finally if you're going to change the names of the teams you might as well not have the commentator not mention them at all.Overall its the best but lets hope konami listen to the people who actually play the game.

Still work to do...13002

$havie$ from UK says (16/Dec/2002):
OK, i got this game and thought wow! what was i doing with FIFA! but now a couple of weeks in and some classic bouts with my mates its all sunk down to earth again. on the bad side - the commentary is disgusting, it makes me cringe especially when that dick says 'i tell a lie, he's missed', you never said i had scored in the 1st place! this has to be addressed in the next game. also player movement needs to be looked at.. running after the ball is crap, tapping the button to run is much better. more detail needs to be paid to the crowd and they really should get a liscence for player names and make more teams, instead of having london as the only English team they should have all the teams, its not even hard for them to do. actually i am so annoyed with this game i cant be bothered to point out its good points. i mean yes i like it and yes it beats fifa to a pulp but still football games need to sort themselves out pretty damn quick. in a word the controls for pro eve 2 are 'un-responsive'

The best football game ever14820

sam Thurling from england, norfolk says (5/Jan/2003):
I love football and have every ps2 football game and pro evolution 2 is the best by far. This makes fifa 2003 look like a cheap mega drive game. The grapics game play and life span are far beater than fifa. If you have a multi tap then the game is even beater having 4 or 5 players helping you or against you if you dont have a multi tap then you should get one. this is one game you cannt get bord of there is just so much to do. i would say this is the best game ever. 10/10

"Lets hope the players give us a game that will excite the fans"15512

matthew P from Hartlepool, north east england (yes im a monkey hanger!) says (15/Jan/2003):
This game was eagerly awaited and came with a bang! its a great game the graphics are great! (not as good as fifas but who cares fifas "not in the same league"). Like most of the other reviews on this im going to mention the oranges )034, 056 etc etc etc, Wot the hell is that! i know they don't have copy right so they carn't mention player names but they could have made an effort like they did with the brazilian side, ( roberto LARCOS etc), at least people know who they are on about. there are afew little niggles with the controls and player responses as well like when your running toward goal and you're still holding the run button the player tryes a very iratating "lob" shot, because you forgot to reliese R1! Also the players let the ball role right passed them when you're in control of someone else! they watch it role passed them et 2 feet without attempting to collect it! Another big niggle is that they made michael owen a speed machine and he great at everything, there is only 2 better strikers (on the game) in my oppinion and these are cresspo (even though hes not that quick) and the legend that is Shevchenko! they've made owen better than van nistlerooy! thats just wrong. Craig belemy is the fastest player in the league by a long shot and owens faster on the game, it just winds me up because owen in real life is s*ite!

However the game is very adictive, esspecially the non international sides because of local rivalry. Im a man U fan and take great pleasue is absolutely anialating Arsnel scum 8, 9 , 10 nil! The points salery and transfer gimic is a nice totch as well. In all the game is great but if they bring out a ISS 3 they should beet fifa to the name copy right because by hell it'll be worth it, gods speed Komei and give us yet another ISS that wipes the floor with the next (irratating) fifa release. mat
