Good layout. Graphics suck. 2 many glitches |
| Ben from Reading, USA says (14/Aug/2003): |
Hitting homers is pretty cool, but since when do you have to reach first for it to count as a hit? Also, since when is that if you hit a foul ball, if you reach second before the ball lands is it a hit? Finally, it's almost impossible to steal a base.
|
what the heck? |
| big game reviewer. from pheonix arizona usa says (15/Jun/2003): |
ok, so i don't like sports games that much, but still this game suks! the graphics or average if that, and i can't stand how the announcers get way behind .... i mean i strike some one out and have a 1,2 count on the next batter and they're still talking about how the other guy was so close and, i say 4 stars at the most mabye 5.
|
Since when is a homerun not a hit? |
| Jason Eakins from Michigan, USA says (7/Mar/2003): |
Ok. So the game is easy. Probably too easy, but that is alright for people who would like to play the game right away. The worst part though is that the stat work is terrible. How are you to keep track of homeruns, hits, Average or any of that when homeruns aren't hits? The creators of this game must have never seen a baseball game ever. Takes all of the fun out of the game. The people at 989 should be shot.
|
Fun , but frustrating not gettin credit for stuff (and other glitches) |
| Cub and Wallace fan from Paris,USA says (13/Aug/2002): |
I love sittin back on a quiet day and playin this game. Unfortunately, i didnt know about these little glitches until i read this website. I mean I kinda noticed something was wrong when i could've swore Sosa hit a homer and the announcer said he flyed out last time, but i didnt expect that. That kinda ruins it for me, i mean whats the point in playing a season to try to put up the best numbers for your players and try to get lots of homers when you dont get credit for it? So, that ruins this game for me. All-Star Baseball 2000 for N64 has better graphics and gameplay than this game! of course ive got a playstation2 and i guess i expect better.
Well basically, these glitches ruined the game for me and now i think it suks.
SORRY 989 SPORTS , BUT YOU COULDVE DONE BETTER. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED.
ILL NEVER BUY ONE OF YOUR GAMES AGAIN!!!

Brennan Ethridge Cochran Georgia ( 7/ 26/ 02 ) |
| Brennan Ethridge from Cochran Georgia says (27/Jun/2002): |
This game has good graphics! The only thing wrong about this game is the commentary stinks but, you can create your own player. The bad thing about create a player is you dont get enough points to improve the player, besides the sucky commentary the game is GREAT!!
|
good and bad |
| Travis Allen from East Peoria,IL says (16/May/2002): |
The graphics are excellent in this game except for the faces on some players. the sound is ok the commentary sucks! they use the same old comments and it's always the same people too! at the start of the season u could hit a home run and it will say 0-1 today...wat up wit dat? the averages are off alot! the rosters (even if thier from last season) are out of date! The create a player is really good, the create a pitcher is really good (they are both good. the field and batting is excellent.

The best baseball game i've ever played!!! |
| Eduardo Novoa from Monterrey, Mexico says (14/Jan/2002): |
Well, MLB 2002 is a big game i think it's cool because all of the team players are included, you can create your own and make a big team, and feels funny because I created players under the names of my family's people and i imagine them playing on a major league game! other stuff is that the homers are easy to hit, and sometimes you don't get accreditted with that, i mean that the game sometimes doesn't put the 0 for 1, for example, when the last time you hitted a homer, and sometimes you hit a homer and when you appear again, in the next batting chance, the commenter says that the player flyed out in the last at bat. othe aspect in the pitching is that if you pitch a fast ball in the middle low, the hitter always strikes it, and when you make a pitch and it's strike the commenters says: "in there, first strike" and the game gets realized of the error and commenter says "no balls two strikes". there are some much details of the commenters, and the game should carry a system wich you can make the recording of the name of a player created by the user, having the different letters of the ABC, recorded each by the commenter, i mean if you want to record the name john smith, in the game's software choose the sound of j, o, h, n, and arrange it to say john. this idea is silly and the game may use more space in the cd than the entire game, but it coud be cool. well, the 989sports team, should make a mlb 2003 or a mlb 2002 refreshed, cause paul o'neill is retired, chuck knoblauch is playing now with the royals and tino martinez is now on the mark mcgwire's place. scott brosius is retired, too, so it needs more realism. this things can be arranged on lineups and the exchange of players, but it's a long process. Oh! i almost forgotten this: in an exhibition game you can choose the yankees vs yankees for example, you control one team and the other is cpu controlled. nice doen't it?
|
This Game Is Cool!!!!! |
| Eduardo Novoa from Monterrey says (11/Jan/2002): |
Well i'll say that mlb 2002 is a great game, but i agree with the reviewer at the top of this list, the homers are easy, sometimes the hitter doesn't get a hit marked when you hit a homer, but the cool thing is that in an exhibition game you can play with a same team i mean you can play with the yankees and play vs the yankees cool, aren't it?
other thing is that you can create players
good game 989 sports!

Sooooo MANY THINGS WRONG WITH THIS GAME!!! |
| beastie719 from Shippensburg, PA says (19/Oct/2001): |
Where do I start?! The game is good but I have one question. Do the programmers actually sit down and PLAY these games after they make them? It doesn't seem like it. I played for two days and came up with a LONG LIST of problems.
First, as everyone else has said, the homers are too easy to hit. And sometimes, when you hit a home run, the batter does not get credited with a hit! Also, the songs in the game get old REAL fast, they should add a few to make it less irritating.
It's also too easy to throw runners out at first and second on hard hit singles to the outfield. Also, you can't change the controls to control the other team during the game. Other games allow you to do that between innings (if you want to hit for both teams or pitch for both teams), it would be nice to have that option here.
The computer is too predictable, when subbing during games, reliever A always comes in first, then reliever B and reliever C (pinch hitters are the same way). The season length options aren't good either. They only offer 14, 29, and 162 game seasons. I would like to see more options (40 games, 81 games, 120 games...or let the user pick the number). Also, the announcers mispronounce alot of names (that's not too bad, but it's annoying).
The computer doesn't substitute players realistically during All-Star games. The same starter might go 7 innings (if you don't knock him out in the first with 5 homers) and the starters play the entire nine innings! ANOTHER THING...what's with the weird order the pitchers are listed in in the post-game box score? (they're all out of order!)
Why does everyone like the new angles that they show the home runs in? I don't like it because everytime you hit a homer the view changes and you KNOW it's a homer. I like a little suspense while the ball is going deep (is it out?..should I run after it? The new angle removes the suspense of "back..back...back...GONE!!!") With the new view, you don't even bother running (on the basepath's and in the field).
Someone also said it would be cool if they kept track of records (most hits in a game by a player ,most runs by a team, etc.) and show something on the screen when a record is broken (and maybe show a fake newspaper headline after the game)
There should also be more ground balls AND errors in the outfield, especially on those IMPOSSIBLE catches the computer likes to make on balls hit to the gap (errors in the infield too). Hit batters, wild pitches, and bench clearing brawls would be great too (fellas at 989 sports, it's called "realism"...look into it!) It would also be nice to actually LOSE a game now and then...I'm 112 and 5 and I'm batting on All-Star difficulty.
AND FINALLY...how about throwing in some creative options that allow the user to "unlock" bonus players? For instance, if you hit four homers in a game with a player (which isn't hard) then you unlock Babe Ruth to use in the home run derby. Or strikeout 15 batters in a game and you can trade for Nolan Ryan. Just a few ideas...other than that, the game is great!
|
It's good, but needs more realism..... |
| Joe from Kentucky says (4/Oct/2001): |
The graphics are good and it's fun, but if you want a close game you have to hit for conatct always or you'll hit between 10 and 20 homeruns a game. Then if you leave it on contact you still have aboout 20-30 hits and 10 or more runs. The game is just too easy and maybe they should address that. Errors, brawls, and more walks would be nice. I've never walked more than twice in a game or seen a wild pitch, I can throw anywhere and the catcher catches it. I still can't still a base but with this game you don't need to still anyway as the next guy up is sure to homer or drive him in anyways.

Good game for a while at least |
| maxwell from cardanels says (29/Sep/2001): |
You buy it,you play it,you never touch it again.Thats what happend to me and my friends. We bought it then we played it for a week and a half but after that it just never got played again.Sure its one of the only 2002 game but its also one of the worst. The gameplay is good, except the outfielding which can get a little out of hand at times.Me and my friend played it for like 45 minutes and the score was 54 to 61.Thats a bad thing because the good players every time they bat if you swing just in time they hit a home run and it can get anoying i'll say.I really want you to buy Triple Play Baseball.

What a thrill |
| Jeff McVicker from Ohio, USA says (15/Sep/2001): |
I think the game has incredible feats in it. The graphics are the best i have yet seen. And the way they play the game is great. One of the best things about this great game is that its played like actuall Major League Baseball. I have never seen a game with such memory on it before. The way the schedule is. Always having the time and day of the game. I can go on for ever. But the one thing that still shock me is the way they show homeruns. With such views and to get into a game so much and too want to sit down and play this game is just a thrill-seeker waiting to happen

There should be no limits |
| Justin from Minnesota, USA says (15/Sep/2001): |
I have already max out the RBIs and they resetted on me. 102 hrs with 46 RBIs just don't sound right. All of this before the all star break. That is one of the bad aspects of this game. The bad commentary also they should get new sports boardcasters. They should also have history where if you break a record they player should get the game ball, and have a celebration. Should be rain delays it gets sicken having an overcast sky with no rain. I just hope MLB 2003 is a lot better than this one

A hard game but easily the best baseball game on the market |
| Matt Boyd from Orangeville Canada says (15/Aug/2001): |
I have had this game since its debut and i still haven't mastered it but its still fun. Lets start with the best part the game, the graphics. They were amazing each player was highly detailed and looked like the actual players. The gameplay is fun and addicting as well, I can play for hours. The cpu is no joke either it will match you play for play if you are new to the game. The only hard part which brings the game down a bit is the controls of the game. At the start you will have almost no clue about most of the controls and it takes time to learn them well. Despite the controls this is still a great game with many modes of gameplay you wont get bored any time soon. I recomend that you buy this game but feel free to rent it first.

very disappointing |
| Dyer from Idaho USA says (18/Jul/2001): |
well if you like to come out and beat your opponent 30-0, with 20 home runs...then this is the game for you. There are way too many home runs...I just got done playing a game and everyone on my team had multiple homeruns besides one guy(who sucks), the most someone had was 4. You could play a single game for a few hours if you actually kept trying when you bat. I mean after a while I just start throwing in bunts so I can get out. Cut down on the homeruns. It is way to easy to strike them out. All you have to do is throw a slider down and to the right, a low-inside fastball, and a inside change up and you have a strikeout...it's as simple as that. I like how they keep stats of almost everything. And the glitches suck.

MLB 2002...almost perfect |
| Art from Oceanside, CA says (14/Jul/2001): |
Overall the fast gameplay, graphics, and sound effects are great. The only exception are some glitches that appear in the game. I'm only 10 games into my season and found that everytime I hit a homerun, sometimes the game doesn't count it as a hit...which jacks my batting avg. In one scenario, I hit 3 HR's in 4 at-bats, yet my avg. that pops up everytime I come up to bat says 0 for 2, or 1 for 3. I don't know why it does that but it frustrates me. You can hit 2 HR's in your 2 at-bats, but at the end of the game be 0 for 2. I also found this game a bit too easy to hit HR's. It took me 1 hr to finish 9 innings because I kept hitting HR's. Another thing, whenever I'm base-running, I can't grasp the control of advancing one runner and returning one to a base. It seems that they both advance or both return. Either way, I get out (need to work on that). Other than those, this is a great game to play. Great job 989!!!

Needs Improvements |
| A gamer from Hawthorne, CA says (28/Jun/2001): |
Though there were some minor changes in MLB 2002 compared the the previous versions, one thing that needs to be improved is skill level, after a certain amount of games, the game level becomes a little too easy. Addition of errors to occur more often like bobbling the ball or through the legs type mistakes to make the game more realistic. I don't know if I'm the only one but, do foul pole homeruns count as hits because the game certainly does not count them as hits, only runs. Overall the homerun camera scenes are nice and the gameplay is still the same which is what makes the game so good. Improved game skill levels and errors would make the game much better as well as making it a little easier to steal a base. Overall, my vote is an 8, which is god. Still my top baseball game there is.

not as good as I expected it to be |
| sports game watcher from Crossvile, TN says (26/Jun/2001): |
THe graphics are as good as any baseball game on the market. There are plenty of game modes, but there is no mode in which you can start with a team and build through MULTIPLE SEASONS I have seen this in 989's football games and was very happy with it that's my favorite way to play. Also although you are able to create an all-star team you can't create a team and play through a season with it. Furthermore even though you can start with a low attribute team in franchise mode and build your way up you only better your team by releasing players and getting new ones there is no way to make a player better like you could in Triple Play by buying attributes. The gameplay is good for one or two games but there needs to be something to spice things up whether it be more errors charging the mound or anything else that would change the pace of the game. The home run scene isn't what everyone has it cracked up to be there are only two scenes if you're home team taking care of buisness plays but if your the visiting team the croud boos you so that becomes very boring. Create a player mode was OK but I think it should be further broken down mean instead of there being a place to add attributes for batting average there could be slots for hand eye cordination, bat speed, ball placement, ect. THe lifespan isn't great because once you realize nothing new is going to happen you get sick of playing. Last but not least 989 should have added more things for the announcers to say. You hear the same old lines being used over and over even in one game.
|
Not too bad....... |
| Eric from Hillsboro says (18/Jun/2001): |
I was a huge Triple Play fan and I decided to give this a shot. I cant say that I like it better but overall its a good game. I have went through 67 games so far into my season and only 3 errors have been comitted. Need to work on that, make it real, have more views of the homeruns, make the announcers sound as though theyre really broadcasting.....Thats what I miss about Triple Play, there was always some noise if you listened close.

What a great game! |
| A gamer from Essex, England says (14/Jun/2001): |
I found this game great. It is enjoyable. The graphics are good. The sound effects were realistic just like most of the things in the game. It had a long lifespan. It is the best baseball game I have played. The only downfalls are that it is too hard to pick some one off and there should be more errors. They could get a bullpen?
