Great RPG with hours of fun! ^_^ | | game_gurl101 from Katy, USA says (6/Jul/2004): | Im not sure if anyones gonna read my review, I mean, theres already so many of them, but oh well! Basically, Harvest Moon is where you play the role of a guy (or a girl, as it is one version of the game) and live on a farm. You always have to raise this farm in some way by buying livestock (cows, sheep, chickens, etc.), planting, growing, and selling your crops, upgrading your house, getting married, and having kids (or, in this case, one kid). The only one I know where it isnt like this is Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland, but were not talking about that game.
What makes this game so exciting you ask? Well, not only do you get to think about 20 different names for yours cows and sheep, you can also attend festivals, cook, fish, and make your guy pass out several times ^_^ Its hard at first (seeing as how you have little money, no animals, and a yard full of weeds, rocks, and twigs) but it gets very addicting once you gain a lot of money. Heres a hint to help you gain money: in Spring, buy only potatoes ^_~
And what could be more thrilling than competing with another guy for your girl? Okay, so you dont get to punch his lights out, but you do get to woo the girl away from him. And, best of all, you can keep playing after the appointed 3 years.......that is, if you feel like it o.O
The only problem I see with this game is that, your baby will stay the same infant he is for about only.......FOREVER!
T_T Good thing you dont buy diapers for that kid.
Anywho, I hoped this has helped explain this game a little bit to you. And remember to be nice to those villagers, you could get a reward in return. ^_^

if u want to win the game and u dont have a lot of % on your farm try to do recipes it gives a lot % and girls loves men's who can cook!!
also a good thing to do in winter is to cut some wood or go mining and the best place to mine is on mother hill on the lake there is a mine which u can go in only in winter cauz water is frozen!!
try to be friend with the more people u can cauz they enfluence the mayor thomas to keep you at the end of the 4th year!!
try to get sweet potatoes cauz they grow in 5 days and gives a lot of money and if u get a hot house is the best thing to grow!!

I dont understand how some people dont like this game because its a fun game to play when ur bored, and also for the people that dont like it to keep it to themsleves because some people dont like it when u critizise the game so ya, well that all i really have to say, and popuri actually likes weeds so u can keep on doing it and she says thank-you so if ur going after her just give her weeds everyday and other stuff 2. And on the 10th year u go on that big bridge and u fall threw then ur wife and kids find u and u end up in the hospital and then gotz asks u to help him rebuild it and i think u get umm i cant remeber but u get alot of money for helpng him out. i havnt got that far but i hope this has helped u a little bit and im hoping for everyone else to help me on some things, i also heard if u give curry to ur wife on the night of ur marriage u can get twins im not totally sure but ya ok welli hope its helped a little.
| applause, natsumi u did it again!!! | | ~*~*teefy~*~* from cornwall, uk says (11/Jun/2004): | this game is brilliant! one of my faves, i was actually given a copy by a good friend, and had oe look at it and thought "dull" and from then on it lived in my bedroom drawer, until one nite i was bored of al my old games and saw it lying there and thought oh wot the hek il hav another go! and i did and i loved it and did'nt eat for ages, seriously!! no kidding, well it helped get a few pounds off!! i was officially hooked line and sinker, i played non stop got married to popuri had a baby then after the ffth year, accidently deleted all my progress, aaaaaaahhhhh, i freeked completely, now iv had to start all over again but its worth every minute, trust me it looks really **** at first but give it a chance, ul be in for a very good awakening, just like i was now i am soo in love with this game, but i did at one stage get a bit bored after doing it over and over again day after day, this was due to my all or nothing personality, with me i either go ape over something or hate, theres no in between! lol!!

My addiction to Harvest Moon started from my ex-friend. He brought over some games to play while my mom was out, and among them were Yoshi story (woohoo!) and Harvest Moon 64. I was very sceptical at first, but I was soon completely hooked on it. I ended up playing that game all night. Last month, I started to get bored of 64 (as I had been playing that same game for...3 years), so I decided to check out Save the Homeland. Now, I didn't really like the fact that you can't get married in this one and that the game has to end whether you like it or not. So I bought Back to Nature without even trying it first, and I have absolutly NO regrets. It's the best of them all, and I love it forever and ever. If you haven't tried it, just give it a chance. Rent it fist though, because this game is definately an aquired taste.

There is 5 girls to chose from. You have Karen, Mary, Elli, Ann and Popuri. You have to marry one of them. You raise up there hearts my giving them presents. You start off with, blue, purple, yellow, orange then red! Once it's red you buy a blue feather. You ask her to marry you and if she says yes, You got a wife!(you have to have the 2nd house extension.) If you continue to give her presents for 30 days , she will become pregnant and have a baby. She gives you clues like, I dont feel goood. You also have to Take care of animals and work on your farm. You should also make friends . You can cook, go to festivals, enter in festivals and sell things to make money! I play Harvest Moon every day. It is very fun and is changelling. Thats why I like it!! It also is a quick game. You have around 12 hours in a day!(Regular 5 min. each hour. If that). Harvest Moon is good for me and it can be good for you.

Parts of the game are fully predictable like wen therz the scenez wiv the girlz, itz kinda obvious which ansaz 2 choose 2 make them like u more but if u want ther hearts up quiker giv them stuff that they like...

A tip about Karen? She likes wine, truffles and Moondrop flowers. When you have Karen with blue heart she will come to your farm and give you Moondrop flowers seeds. When they're blooming she comes to you again and tell you she's happy. Give flowers to her later and her love meter go up by one point. About Mary? She's easy to marry. She likes mushrooms, poison mushrooms, all grasses, flowers... When you have Mary with blue heart she will comes to your farm and give you a book. Read it and go to library. Then she's tell you some informations about it. Answer "I like woodcutter". Some informations about Ann? OK. She likes milk, eggs, spa-boiled eggs and another food. If you have Ann with blue heart she will comes to you farm. She wants 3 fresh eggs every day. Say "yes". Now it's time for my favourite Elli! She loves flowers. When you have Elli with blue heart she will comes to you farm at noon with a sandwich. It's not very good so she's unhappy. Next day she comes too. Her sandwich is better, but... Pros:
Having a few interesting festivals once in awhile, chasing the girls you like in town and some mini stories(If you are there at the right place and the right time.)now and then, for all i can say is that you can't really see that kind of things in most of the RPG. And i really like Elli =)
Cons:
There are events to make your 'hard' and 'boring' farm life better in the game, but still farming most of the time does make you abit bore as time goes. And sometime you even get 'mad' because the times seem to go just too slow and you just couldn't wait for the event you been waiting for to come, or have too much things to finish, you hope that time would go slower. For another thing, especially for those who palyed for four years in the game, it like it actually takes you months to complete a game that almost goes almost again and again?
That all i have to say because i really don't want to offence others out there who like this game, not that i'm saying i hate it, and still it a nice game to go for if you like animals, nature stuffs and so on...

Karen:on Karen Youl need money of about 50,000. In Fall Everyday exept Saturday give her 18 wine until the heart turns Red. NOTE:I think that doubles the effect on the 15th day because thats her birthday.
Ann:Nothing Special just give her flowers,cheese,boiled egg(from the spring),milk and try soething nice like wine but she.
Popuri:Popuri is a smple girl who likes Hot spring boiled egg and she likes flowers like toy flowers.
Elie:Elie likes flowers best I can't remember her birthday so try to find out your selves.
Ill tell my fave. recipe that won the cooking fest.ICE CREAM.

I LOVE THE GAME!! their is soo many action parts like when somebody moves into the town, or when something happens, and DEFINATELY the festivals are soooo fun. i am trying to marry ann..but she seems to ignore me..and I don't want to try to get karen to like me cuz she is a drunk, or something, and I dont want elli cuz I heard shw was the hardest cuz she loves the doctor so much..does anybody know what ann likes?? she doesnt seem to REaLLY liek anything I give her!!...natsume made a harvest moon for girls, and it looks sooo fun..but it is only in japanese...*darn*.i cant wait for another one to come out....but why can't the new one on gamecube be on PS2? | I think this is one of the best games out there! | | A gamer from Omaha, USA says (26/Mar/2004): | In times before electric lights(and even now in some places), farmers worked from dawn to dark. The last harvest in Autumn was a big event; it was held on the day of the full moon so they could work later with the moon's natural radiance to see by thus it was called the harvest moon. Harvest Moon allows us to experience a simpler time; only keeping the basics of technology (a refrigerator, a phone, a 4-stationed television set, etc). Though the 3-d graphics in-game could be a little better, the manga-style graphics that pop up when you talk with a villager are very well done. I like the way the "chat" graphics of the people you talk to change according to their moods. The music fits well with each season; Spring sounds soft and refreshing, Summer sounds up-beat and lively (the instrument seems to be a steel drum--very Caribbean sounding), I forget what Autumn sounds like but Winter sounds quiet with a bittersweet air. The gameplay is near perfect, unless you're in a hurry; sometimes jamming the control stick and holding down the "run" button can cause you to slip sideways which in turn can make you lose something valuable if you were trying to throw it in the shipping bin or give it to someone. Otherwise gameplay is quite fun and extremely addicting! Don't get this if you have too many responsibilities outside of the game or you will find yourself neglecting your r/l chores, friends, family, mate, pet, etc. I have not yet won the game (you get to keep th farm if you do a good enough job after 3 years--most people say you'd have to try hard ~not~ to do well to lose) so I
don't know if it ever has an end (you get to play ~indefinitely~ after you win--but I don't know if there's a cap to how long you can play). As some have said, it is sim-like but kind of rpg as well. It also has some action in the forms of competitions, fishing, and just trying to beat the clock to get everything you want done before the day ends. I have never seen another series out there that came near this series of games. If I could afford it, I'd get every system it runs on
and every rendition of Harvest Moon. Back to Nature is extremely valuable to me; I had to get it at a used store and was quite upset that at least two of our electronics stores said they wouldn't be carrying it anymore because there wasn't enough demand for it (even though they had sold out and ~I~ ~was~ demanding it! Grr!).

I'm in the 4th year now,I married Ann and I have a son (able to crawl),Ann won't marry me for some time cause my house is not extended (maybe because there is no bed for her to sleep) but once i extented my house...she married me! And you know what I give her every day in the mornings? Ans: hardboiled eggs...I just have to carry all my eggs in my large racksack and throw them into the "pond" (forget what it is called) and give her all of the eggs...she seems to like the eggs alot. I have quite alot of recipes too, I even won the cooking contest! I like those festivals and special events in this game...oh! and I remembered asking the "dawf-like creatures" (sorry about that,I have forgotten some names) to help me water plants,look after animals,harvest crops,etc...they are really helpful! but you have to give them something in return because the hearts will decrease...by giving them things,the hearts may increase. My dog, also have puppies! with hana,the dog at the sheep/cow farm. The puppies are sooooooooo cute! and sometime I will carry some small animals back to the farm but they disappear after a short period of time. Of the 4 seasons,i like autumn most as there will be soooooo many stuffs to gather up in the woods. (mushrooms,flowers,etc) So in autumns, I will become very rich...opps, I think I typed too much,I will end here. Remember...harvest moon ROCKS!

A game doesn't have to have violence to be good or entertaining. And to the people who think that Harvest Moon is sexist cause they only let you play as a boy, well, they haven't played Harvest Moon: For a Girl.(In which you, as a girl, can marry Kai, Cliff, Gray, etc.) This is a good game and has a portable version for GBA.(Friends of Mineral Town) This type of game doesn't come along often, but is worth it. The graphics aren't that great, but the story line more than makes up for it and the Harvest Moons can be played for year after year. The game is suited for all ages and sexes. I fell in love with it and showed it to my girl friend and she fell for it too. It is the best and the one and only for all true gamers. The music is soothing, the people are charming and the plot is fantastic. Believe you me, you will love this game and will love it for years to come.

The real story behind the game is amazing: the process of making your way to make the people or the villagers to like you, is the fun part specially when your about to decide to pick the one you want to be with or want to pick as your wife. I also love the touch of reality of each event: it makes us feel that we are the master of our destiny, we chose what path we want to go. And in the aspect of it's originality I can say that nothing could ever replace the magnificent feeling you will experience in this game so this is unique and one of a kind. Creative and an attractive way to make people appreciate work of art through experiencing fun with game like this.
| this game is good | | A gamer from NJ, USA says (15/Jan/2004): | this game was stupid at first cuz i didnt no how to play at all, i tried throwing in everything and i finally got in the blue plant and greenish yellow one, i spent all the gold so that was my only option. i messed up a couple of times. i finally beat the 3 years and been excepted into the town, and from what i heard its never ending with events ever year. this games will go on forever till u stop playing. this maybe for those who like games those are like the sims. i personally loved this game cuz it was the same as real life. the best part is really the games like the tamato throwing. this game i got from a relative and thought it was fruity at first and now i am like playing every single day non stop, even to eat. this game was so real i tried some things in this game in real life and i guess giving things to people does increase relations. this game was great but except for the glitches, the dog ball was always being lost in the house. the amount of gold i lost on a festival was lots but other then that the game's speed and realistics were good and if there are any other games i would get it. but there's a problem since i don't have a lot of money.

After you start actually playing this game the incredable simplisity grabs you. A scheduel becomes set in the virtual days, you get into the groove of things and while nothing major is happening for some reason the little things start to matter. You will manage your time between the basic four things in this game: working the fields, taking care of your animals, gathering nateral resources, and socializing with the villagers. Although it may not seem all that complex, but like Tetris you get quickly addicted. After days turn into monthes and monthes turn into years you really begin to feel for the town. You get to know the people, learn there stories and maybe even get married and start a family. And for whatever reason you keep coming back for more, one more day becomes a basic phrase in your vocabulary when your family is pestering you into going to that dreaded non-farm related job.
The game is well made, and wll some may not see the simple beauty in it, I found myself spending hours and days of my time living out life on my farm. For someone who is looking for a little something different I tip my hat in Harvest Moon's favour.
