Really Cool | | A gamer from Louisville, Kentuky, USA says (19/Jul/2001): | I'm not much on farming. I used to think it was... well, you know what I mean. I first played the 64 version at a friends house. It looked pretty stupid at first. But within an hour I was hooked. Then I saw the psx version. Of course, I bought it. It is VERY addictive. It has better graphics than the 64 version, better gameplay, more festivals, and more characters. You can also do alot morethan in any other version. I reccommend it for gamers who don't like bloody and gorey games.
| AN AWESOME GAME!!!! | | RaKay from USA says (4/Jul/2001): | Harvest Moon is my favorit game. I could sit and play that game for hours! You get to control some ones life. You have to make a girl fall in love with you. Then you can marry her. You can also have children!! During all of this you can raise cows and chickens and also grow and sell crops!! There's also festibles you can go to! I ALSO LOVE THE NINTENDO 64 VERSION!!!! On the Nintendo 64 version, you can also raise sheep. There are many more additions you can add to your farm. There's also many more kinds of vegitables to grow. There's also many more festibles to go to. I if I had to pick which game is the best one in the world, It would be Harvest Moon for Nintendo 64. The Harvest moon for SNES is also cool, but the Nintendo 64 verstion is much better. So check them both out!!
| Harvest Moon Rocks!!! | | A gamer from Canada says (3/Jul/2001): | I didn't know the maginfiance of "Harvest Moon BTN" until my friend introduce me to it. He told me to borrow it and play this cool unique game for a few days.
At first, I didn't pay much attention to this game until when my friend e-mail me and asked if I like the game or not.
So I quickly started to load the game and started playing. I WAS AMAZED!!! The game was absoutely amazing! The storyline was totally dramatic and creative. And as for the game itself, I totally love the cooking part and the getting-to-know-the-characters-better part.
It is more than just a farming game. You can woo your favourite girl, and you could also be a matchmaker and match the couples up, you could also enter the festivals that is like a mini-game. Also, the fun never ends, you can't finish this game really, I LOVE THIS GAME!
So I told my friend if I could borrow it for a few more days and then so on...until my friend got ticked at me and told me to buy my own copy. =)
| An addictive game indeed | | A gamer from Riihimäki, Suomi Finland says (9/Jun/2001): | Cute, fun and addictive.
Perhaps not the greatest game ever made but positively enjoyable. The daily routines may get tiresom but there always seems to be something new to experience. Making friend with the villagers is a lot of fun and flirting with the babes even more so. Not the number one hit for an action fan but lovely for relaxation.
Thumbs up!
| The best game made!!! | | Cody from oakdale,pa,usa says (22/Apr/2001): | Harvest moon back to nature is an awsome game in which you are a farmer. You milk your cows and feed the chickens. Your main job is to get the farm back on it's feet and live in the paradice forever, or to be banished and never able to return. Plus you must woo the girl of your dreams over to you and marry her and live in your farm together forever.
| The coolest non-action game ever made | | Mikau from Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA says (21/Apr/2001): | This is the coolest game. Ive never been addicted to any other game like this- and I NEVER get addicted to a game. I play it every night and I cant say enough good things about it! It rocks- I go away from the game with eyes and thumbs sore from playing too much. Sure, its a little tough compared to the n64 version (I LOVE THAT ONE TOO ^.^)but wheres fun without challenge? I know it may sound a little boring, growing and working on a farm, huh? WRONG!! You spend more time wooing girls, talking to people, getting recipies, finding out AMAZING secrets and codes, expanding your house, raising livestock, cooking, and exploring than you do farming!(but even thats fun too!)This game deserves the highest rate ever
(except for zelda *wink). You must buy this game- everythings kick-butt down to the way the main character's hat sits on his head!!!(Maybe im over exagerating.....) But COME ON!! How can you resist the perfect game???!!! Its for all ages.
| Excellent! | | Mark (Ocellus) Roe from Las Vegas, (Nevada) USA says (16/Apr/2001): | Not a RPG really but much more of a resource management simulation with a personal caring touch, a breath of fresh air. I love strategy and resource man. to my very core (I remember staying up night after night with the first Civilizations game) but this just blows away most serious sims, which is big surprise to me.
The graphics are very impressive. I own a PS2 on which I play this time leach and when I showed my friends the game for the first time they thought it was a low-grade PS2 game. You wouldn't believe thier surprise when I told them otherwise.
Like many of the other reviewers on this page I originally played the SNES version and loved it, so picking up this game was a no-brainer, particularly at $19.99. All the new features in this sequel , yes sequel, add up to a game with unlimited replayability. BRAVISIMO NATSUME! Pick up this game now!
| The best game ever | | Marti from Maryland,USofA says (5/Mar/2001): | Lets face it we all get a little addicted to our video games. This one is one of the best games I have ever played.i got so addicted I never stopped playing. I love it.It has an encrredible plot and story. This game is very informative and lets face it its FUN!
| Not Just For Little Kids! | | Jali from Edmonton, Canada says (3/Mar/2001): | Despite the cutsey story-line and even more cutsey graphics, Harvest Moon is a very addictive and fun game for all ages! I had originally started with the old SNES Harvest Moon, and maybe it's the mothering instinct in me (no wait! Don't run! I'm a girl, we can say things like that!) but the idea of raising a little farm full of animals and produce really appealed to me...ok, now I just sound slow! But understand, normally, a game like this wouldn't catch my eye, since I'm more of a die hard Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy fan, but HM:BTN is a fun alternative from the usual stream of shoot em ups and what not we're usually faced with. More than that.....it showed me I was really lucky to have been born a city girl, because I don't think I would've lasted in the country -.- Anyway, I would recommend this game to those of you looking for a interesting new change, and just plain old fun. A word of advice though: make sure you have ample time to play it in.....something about taking care of little cows and chickens makes you want to stay up until four a.m playing it! And also do yourself a favour and don't waste money by renting this game and another one at the same time. Trust me, I rented Final Fantasy 9 at the same time as I did this game, and FF just sat there by my VCR as I stayed up into the wee hours of the morning tending to my crops! (not knocking FF9, it's just I couldn't bring myself to hit the OFF button on my PSX to actually play it)!
| Most addictive game in creation! | | Joel Cameron from British Columbia Canada says (28/Feb/2001): | This game is amazing in the fact that you have total freedom something few RPG's truely let you have. The aspects of the game are so briliant simply run a farm, live a life, no fighting killing monsters magic ect. This is soooo addictive once I got Harvest Moon 64 I played till four AM then beat that record by staying up till eight AM with back to nature. The graphics are perfect for this type of game. There is low-yet high detail...very hard to explain. The sound on the other hand can be alittle annoying but once again suits this type of game.It has got to be the funnest and most original game on earth a must buy for RPGers
| In Love With This Game | | Dylan from California says (26/Feb/2001): | This game is by far one of the most innovative and exciting genres to happen since resident evils survival horror. The game has great detail into the little things such as birds chirping and people going about on their own daily schedules. Although some of the music is repetitive it fits the game. The graphics are somewhat grainy at times but perfectly fits this kind of game. The little anime faces are detailed too. One of the best parts of this game is how you have no set path whatsoever. You are free to do what you want to do at any time. The festivals are fun and even more exciting this time around but i still find them to be a little too far apart and not as much interactivity that i had hoped for. I am a proud owner of Harvest Moon 64 and i loved it. I wasnt able to stop playing Back to nature the day i bought it. i played until 3 in the morning on school nights. I was amazed by the depth of the game. I did have some minor trouble with the control scheme of BTN since i was very used to the diagonal movement in the 64 version but i soon saw past that and was floored by a incerdible game that no RPG fan should miss.
| A very good game! | | Nicki from NJ, USA says (20/Feb/2001): | This is a good game for the whole family. I like Harvest Moon because it's fun, it's got good graphics, and it's addictive. I've never seen another game like it before. The controls are real easy to use. It provides a fun challenge. You can compete in festivals and get married.
| The Future of Rpg | | Rob M from Canada says (17/Feb/2001): | This game was great. I played the SNES version and thought it was amazing! then, I played BTN and couldn't stop...
I'm actually playing it right now... Can't stop...
| Excellent! | | Louvette from Manila, Philippines says (5/Feb/2001): | Harvest Moon is a breath of fresh air from all those blood and gore, violent types of video games we commonly find. I can only imagine what real life farmers would think of us city folk doing farm chores on a game console and loving every addicting minute of it.
| A Different Kind Of RPG! | | Ryan Johnson from Moreno Valley Ca, USA says (2/Feb/2001): | This game is a great RPG. It is not your common "Save the Princess" RPG, but yet a farming RPG. How often do you get to milk cows(some of us don't want to)not often. When the company first made Harvest Moon for the Super NES, they were taking a chance. But when this farming game had an extreme effect on the people, they could not stop making more and more. Now, we have are latest, "Harvest Moon: Back to Nature". This one is a bit different. It can hold more cows, more sheep, more chickens, and even more fish(compared to 1) So if you have not played this game, I suggest you do.
| The Game of the Year! | | Alex Moerman from NSW Australia says (23/Jan/2001): | Cluck......Moo..... No, not your average sounds for a Playstation game. But, then again, this isn't an average game, this is a brilliant game, this is Harvest Moon: Back to Nature.
In a way, this game is like human flesh, it is an aquired taste. If you are fortunate enough to have this taste, you are in for a graphical, sonical and enjoyable treat. The story goes that as a young boy, instead of your usual vacation, you visited your grandfather's farm because of your father's job. Although very different from your home life, it was a pleasant change and you found something new and exciting to do everyday. You met a girl, and made wonderful friends with her, you remember singing merry songs high upon the summit of a mountain near the farm. When it was time to leave, you promised her you would meet again.
That was ten years ago. Now, your grandfather has passed away, and you volunteer to rebuild his broken down farm with a dead line of three years. You never know, maybe, just maybe, you'll meet that girl again....
But, in-between now and 3 years time, you have to rebuild the farm to the great lively ranch it once was. Not as easy as it seems, clearing your ranch, planting crops and looking after animals are but a few of the many chores you must consistently do. No, this game isn't really boring or hard work, Natsume have somehow made work fun!!
There are plenty of things to do in your spare time, like woo one of 5 single women in the town, forage in the mountain and mine, fish, find and cook recipies and participate in carnivals like the Horse Race and the Tomato Fight!! The game certainly begins slowly, but quickly picks up speed as you place your jobs and activites into a daily ruitine. You will soon you find yourself interacting with dozens of characters as the story gets deeper and more involved pulling you into this colossal game.
The game's graphics are suitably cartoony but not so much as to detract from the more mature aspects of the game. When interacting with the people in the town, a text box pops up with a cute anime inspired character face depicting their mood, it's little things like this that make Harvest Moon: Back to Nature so special.
Sound wise, you're in for a treat, although quite repetitive, you'll find yourself humming along with the catchy tunes in no time. The sound effects are great, with the mandatorie clucking, mooing and woofing, but there is also things like waves crashing, wind blowing and seagulls squawking when you visit the beach.
Natsume have hit the nail right on the head when it comes to lengthiness, this game will allow you to continue playing after the 3 years have finished!! You can woo your women with presents and watch their heart rating soar until the time is right for you to propose, you can have a child once married and if you play after the 3 years, you will find that other couples in the village may get married!! After you've completed the required 3 years and have played well enough to go on, as you continue to play, you will continue to find intriuging twists in the 'story'.
I would thourghoully recommend any gamer, young and old, to purchase Harvest Moon: Back to Nature, I'm sure with it's remarkable character and clever originality, this game will touch hearts all around the world, like it has touched mine.
| Great game, could be the best Harvest Moon game yet! | | Derek Robinson from Swift Current, Canada says (22/Jan/2001): | I'm not a big fan of RPG games, but this game is nothing close to a normal RPG. Harvest Moon has a style that no other game in the world has. It is clever with tons of mini games and very addicting gameplay. If you liked any other Harvest Moon game you would love this one. I knew it would be good, because after playing HM 64 I knew I had to get the PSX version. I sold my N64 for almost nothing and got a playstation the same day and bought the game. As I expected it was another great game by Natsume. The gameplay is something that no other game has and the simulation part of it is incredibale. There is not much 3D overload on this game, but you don't care because the gameplay is so creative. I have no idea how they come up with all the things that the characters say in the game and the festivals are a blast, much better than HM64.
The Down Side
The sound on this game is very cheap, everytime you walk it sound like you steping on a mouse. The music is cute, but it will get on your nerves as time goes on. Also, the sound of when you pick up things or put pick an item from your backpack makes me want to vomit. Since sound is no important on the game, mute the TV and jam to some of your favorite tunes. The only other bad thing is the loading time, it was much better than I ever thought it would be, but everytime you go somewhere you will have to wait 3-6 secs and it kinda gets annoying. If you want to solve that problem, have some food or a drink handy and take a bit or a sip during loading time.
Overall it is game that is fun for the whole family with all of the great new features. So jump into your favorite chair and get ready to be sitting in that chair for hours on end.
| The most fun RPG ever to hit the playstation console! | | Garrett Kemp from Cresskill, NJ, USA says (21/Jan/2001): | Many people see a game like this and pass it by. The old saying comes to mind when you think of it. "You cannot judge a book by its cover." Meaning, this game looks a little kiddish - but its a lot of fun. It teaches us to have responsibility and enjoy ourselves at the same time.So DON'T pass this one by
| The best game in the world! | | Brandon Jackson from Lawton,Oklahoma says (19/Jan/2001): | I don't know how, but this game just hooked me to it after the 2nd of Spring in Year 1. If you've played the N64 version of the series, you're probably thinking "Oh, it's just the N64 version put on a Playstation disc." That's far from true. Harvest Moon: Back to Nature is 20 times better than the N64 version, so it's time to put that N64 controller down and pick up your PS control and get hooked more than ever. As you know, in the N64 version, you could collect recipies, yet couldn't do anything with them whatsoever except get rated for how many you get. BO-RING. But this time around, you can cook stuff! There's also more of a wide variety of vegetables to choose from, including many new ones. As in the previous game, you can expand your house and get a greenhouse (now called a hothouse) and also get married of course. This time around you can also hold up to 10 chickens and 20 cows and or sheep. Also you can use mayonnaise, cheese, and yarn makers to increase the profits of eggs, milk, and wool. There are also tons more features. You've got to see this game to believe it. You WILL buy this game.
| now i know what your thinking... a farm sim? trust me. it rocks. | | Rath Rodgers from nocturnal, addict says (18/Jan/2001): | I am a giant fan of RPG and kill um all games. this game just rocks. from the moment i got this game i have been hooked. take the graphics, there not the best, but there far better than any "sim" type game i have played. There are so many different things you can do, id recommend it for anyone. sure the sound may not be the best but i always turn it down and turn the radio up. i have played it from beguinning to end sever times. i still play it. its like no other game out there. besides the origonal harvest moon and versions for other systems. this game has a good story, plenty of events and objectives, even has a few hidden things to seek out. this is by far one of the best games i own.
