The same good gameplay... but where's Portugal?1668

Nelson Ferreira from Lisboa, Portugal says (13/Jan/2001):
I did not had to play much this 2001 version of FIFA's EA Sports to say that this is the worst release of all!
That is because there is no portuguese references on it!!!
No portuguese teams, or even the portuguese national team!
One of the best teams! the third place in the last european championship and the team of FIGO!: the best world player of the moment!
The worst service that EASports could made to the football fans!

WHY ARE THERE TEAMS WE DON'T NEED?10633

hdesilencio from Canada says (25/Oct/2002):
I bought my FIFA2001 used, at first it was quite hard to score eventually after playing it so much it go so easy, however i'd like to know why there are so many countries missing and why there are israel league (why not el salvador?) and not a portugal league , regardless of the teams that made the world cup there should be every team involved, in the nintendo games there was almost every team involved even in the sega genesis but now we're in 2002 and they decided to reduce the teams. Also there should be something harder than world class. It's too easy! also there should be handball, also better trades and also get more money at the end of the season to acquire more players!

This Game Rocks!!! You Can Even Make Your Own Teams!!!1979

Game Dude from Pembroke, New Hampshire, USA says (4/Feb/2001):
This Game Rocks!!! You Can Even Make Your Own Teams!!! I Mean Who Doesn't Want To Make Their Own Team? It Could Have The Classic Matches Like WC '98 Did, But Overall This Game Is Awsome!!!

THE GAME IS GOOD3414

eric from long beach, California says (10/Aug/2001):
The game has some good graphics. The game play is challenging once you hae the setting on world class but once you get the hang of it it is easy to score the commentery is ok. The game could be better but it keeps me entertained when im bored. But i have one question to the staff of the game at EA sports. My question is why dont ay of the fifa games have the FMF which is the league in mexico. Ive been asking my self that question ever since i got my first fifa game.

great, but where do you buy it????43767

a very intrested gamer from lanarkshire scotland says (29/Dec/2004):
A stunning game, with graphics which we have not seen before until these new games out e.g fifa 2002 ,'03 '04 etc. but its 2004 and ive looked in game stores all over and have not seen one copy of fifa 2001. in my opinion its better than fifa's new games so it should be in the shops.

Great game but I feel a bit cheated...584

A gamer from York, England says (14/Nov/2000):
On the back of the Playstation box it states "consecutive seasons offer the joy of promotion and the threat of relegation" - however, beware because you CANNOT experience the joy of being promoted. After relegation the season stops and you go back to the main screen, if you choose to start a season again you go back into the same division (!?)
Also do not try to change the sponsored kits of the official teams - because if you don't like, for instance, the official Man Utd Away shirt then if you change it then the game automatically changes the home shirt to a custom design too.
The transfer system and all the other aspects of previous incarnations are more or less unchanged and if you aleady have FIFA 2000 then think very hard before purchasing this.
Apart from all the minor niggles it remains, as always, a quality footie game - but if it's gameplay you want then stick to (the graphically superior)ISS Pro Evolution.

Same FIFA, different number...1461

Shawn Guay from Calgary, Canada says (2/Jan/2001):
EA's FIFA franchise is argueably the strongest soccer game in terms of gameplay, however, the last few installments have stalled in terms of improvement and development. The newest edition has a few added feature that make it a marked improvement over
A) American commentary is gone! 2001 sees the return of John Motson for play-by-play.
B) For the first time, almost all club jerseys are rendered, but there are a few out of date jerseys that should have been fixed before shipping... Liverpool Home, Bayern Away, Man Utd Away...
C) Costomizable Cameras. Making up for shedding a few of the old camera views (Ball Cam being the one I noticed right away), EA has given us the ability to change height and zoom on every camera...

The worst part? Difficulty levels. The disparity between each level of difficulty is huge. Illustrated examples:
Amateur - Like playing the local old boys, hung over and out of shape. Your score will hit double digits before 1/2 time.
Professional - Just like it says. Play against those talented individuals who make up the top-level sides. And they aren't push overs...
World Class - Exactly like playing against a Dream XI side, with 6 Pele's, 3 Johan Cruyff's, 1 Maradonna and Lev Yashin in goal. Only they score more.

And there's still no dream teams or classic matches, like WC '98 had... A feature I miss.

good but not as good as it could be2105

Jonas Orrvad from Gothenburg, Sweden says (16/Feb/2001):
I have been playing FIFA 98, 99, 00, EURO 00 and now 01. The biggest change was between FIFA 99 and FIFA 2000. After that, very litlle changes. In this version the graphics are the greatest so far. The sound is OK. The gameplay is the same as always.

I think that EA Sports should implement a little of the features from the NHL series. For example; have a simulation between each matchday with some transfers, injuries, hot and cold streaks and so on.

I love soccer, but I prefer hockey on the PS. The main problem with FIFA is the loss of depth in the game. Nothing happens. It is fun to play a season but we need more happenings, more things to happen so that you actually can feel that YOU ARE IN THE SEASON. This is a tip for EA Sports.

So finally, an ok game with far too little changes from last time. But it is, by far, the best soccer game.

Finished with it in 2 months2235

A gamer says (1/Mar/2001):
This is the first football game I ever got for the Playstation and It is the easiest game I ever got. It is a good game but I've tried better.
I got fed up with the game in two months because of how easy it is to score. On the box it saws inproved goalies, more effective and more challenging. Well I don't think they would have improved much.
Oh yeah the box stinks too.
