Not As Good As I Thought!1520

A gamer from Cheshire, England says (3/Jan/2001):
When I heard about what matches were in Smackdown 2 I was very excited about getting it. But when I put it in and started to play I realised what a let down it was. The Season mode takes way to much time to load, when you skip a match you have to go through a silly sequence to get the winner, stupid cut-scenes which dont need to be in the game like when someone is sitting shaking there head or it saying that someone has arrived. In a tag table match you only have to put one of your opponents through a table, you cant do double team moves through the table and you wouldnt get on top of the table to powerbomb someone through it you would go to the side. The Hell In The Cell isnt big enough and it shouldnt be so easy to get out, you should have one exit which would be the cell door. You should be able to throw someone off the top of the cell and they go through the announce table. In any match you should be able to get a table from under the ring. You cant do double team moves in any match besides Tag Match (not even tornado tag). The Ladder Match is to easy to win. When you put someone through a table in any match you should at least be able to get the three count or it should knock them out. In anywhere fall matches you should be able to throw your opponent off the stage. The Following matches should be put on the next WWF game (possibly PS2):
Buried Alive Match
Inferno Match
Lions Den Match (Definitely PS2)

Alot better than SmackDown 1 but there is still room for improvement.898

Brian C. from Laplace,LA.,USA says (5/Dec/2000):
I have been waiting for this game since I saw the first preview in one of my magazines and after all the anticpitation and waiting I can honestly say that the game was well worth the wait.
First if all, there are more game modes that any other wrestling game on the market and everyone of them is suprisingly well put together with the exception of the casket match, which can be easily forgotten. The matches include table, ladder, hell in a cell, hardcore, tlc, cage(which is alot better this time around), special ref, and a "beat as many people as you can in a certain time" match called a slobber knocker match. Hardcore matches include over 13 backstage areas and you can also play triple threat, special ref, and fatal four way hardcore matches. Simply put, you can just about re-create any match ever seen on television.
Gameplay wise, not much has changed. The engine is not much different and it is mostly pretty unrealistic. Example: it takes almost a minimum of 10 chair shots just to get someone down. I can't really complain though because it is alot more fun that some other WWF wrestling game. *cough* *No Mercy* *cough*
All in all, you are not going to go wrong with this game and and if you are a fan of wrestling videogames go pick this one up just for the many modes and improved season mode. Trust me, you will not regeret this purchase, "If ya smellllllllllll what the Troublemaker is cookin!!!!!!!!!"

Positively the BEST wrestling game to date!962

PHOENIX from Fort Knox says (9/Dec/2000):
When I got my copy of WWF Smackdown 2: Know Your Role, my expectations were high. This game is leaps and bounds beyond the original game. Create a Wrestler is much more in depth, the story lines actually make sense, and there are several more matches to choose from. One problem some people are having with this game is that when they create a wrestler and start a season, they aren't being incorporated into the storylines, and aren't getting many matches. Here's a hint folks, read page 26 of your game's instruction book. There you will find out how to get your wrestler into the ranking system for a particular belt, thereby giving you many, many more matches in the season.
The solid gameplay, diverse matches, expansive roster, and the create a wrestler feature are all very strong points to this game. Like all games however, there is always room for improvement. The biggest problem with this game is the loading time. I think though, that when this game is played on a Playstation 2 that the load time problem will cease to exist. One other minor fault with this game is the absence of our beloved announcers, Jerry "The King" Lawler, and good ol' Jim Ross.
In my book, this game is a must-have, despite its flaws. THQ did a great job with this game, and if they improve as much on their next wrestling game, watch out...we might end up with a game that bloodies your nose.

WWF SmackDown 2 is the best game ever12290

Jay-Z from Canada says (3/Dec/2002):
The graphics are the best, and the matches and season, the best. I don't know how they made such a great game. The wrestlers look so real, especially Trish Stratus. The moves, the entrances, the CAW option. Everthing is the best. How did they get such a big amount of stuff, into such a small package. I would recommend this game to eveyone, even people who don't like wrestling. It's defineitely worth buying. I spend hours making playing the game with my friends, and creating wrestlers, taunts, stables, and managers. I can even add myself to my favorite stable, or create a dream stable. My favorite wrestler can be my manager. That's why Trish is my manager. The Create a PPV thing is awesome. I can make my favorite matches happen before my eyes. Like the Hell in a Cell match between The Undertaker and Mick Foley. I don't even have to play, I can let the computers do it. You can also gradually grow with the game. You can make it easy, medium, or hard. Even the medium is challenging. WWF SmackDown 2 is my favorite game, and I never stop playing it. I have like 30 other games, and I never play them. This game is really addicting, and well just buy WWf SmackDown 2. You won't regret it, I promise. You can also unlock movesets from season, and create wrestlers that aren't even on the game, like the Big Show, Scott Steiner, Ric Flair, and many more.

Almost A Legend but not quite...9148

Anderz from Mansfield,England says (21/Aug/2002):
I am someone who brought Know Your Role through the fact that I am a big wrestling fan and that I feel THQ have done a great job with Smackdown 1. People may say that Smackdown 2 is just an updated version of Smackdown but I feel that through all the improvements it is a much better game. I feel the large selection of superstars makes this game fun (I am a bit dissapointed by the none appearence of the Big Show). The Exibition Mode is far better with a larger selection of matches and the fact that you can have title matches makes it more exciting. I feel that Season Mode was improved by the fact that there are many more matches and many more shows for the die-hard fan but the Rankings system has not been improved from Smackdown. I find Create Mode is fantastically fun with the exception of the minority of detail in the Create-A-Superstar Appearence Mode. The main point that makes me rate this game 8 instead of 9 or 10 is the loading time. I accept the fact that the game has a lot of detail in it and that causes it to take longer to load and occaisionally stall, but I find that saving frequently helps by when the game stalls you don't lose all your hard work in this long, fantastically storied Season Mode. All in all I would by the Platinum Version if I hadn't already got the original. So by the game if you like the sound of it.

The game utter RULES37016

Lita from U.K says (16/Dec/2003):
This game totally rocks and I dont see HOW ON EARTH people can compare it to SYM and HCTP and complain that Brock the cheapo Lesnar aint in it. This game isn`t NEW... Its an oldie and a classic in that. NOTHING and I mean NOTHING beats this game when it comes to wrestling on a PS1.. And if you complain about the loading.. Geez..Do what I did.. Get a Playstation emulator.. Rip the game over to your cpu and play it on that or directly from the original cd.. Not only does the emulator load alot faster and you dont even see the Now Loading screens it also gives perfect sound etc...

SD 2 will always hold #1 spot with me..
The graphics is utter perfection considering when it was released nothing came close.. U have alotta matchtypes.. Both Female And Males are available for choosing in season.. Something they lacked in both SD 3 4 and 5 on PS 2...

Something I found very nice seeing as I am a female and dont see why I should have to be forced to play a male trough season.. But yeah you can create a female wrestler and choose ??? in gender and use them in the other games.

But what makes SD 2`s season unique is that the duration of it is.....well as far as I know it never ends.. And I actually saw new stuff on like year 50 or 51 that I hadn`t seen before. Something that urged me to play on.. Top notch game!

The best wrestling game for Playstation 129218

A gamer from Rochester NY USA says (4/Aug/2003):
This has got to be the best wrestling game out for ps1.There are a great amount of wrestlers to choose from (even though they left out alot and could of added more wwf superstars that should of been in that game during that time) and there are a great variety of matches.Whats also good about this game is that there are always 2 announcer tables outside the ring and you can put your opponent through it with getting disqualified(no matter what match you select the 2 announcer tables will always still be there). The wrestlers look almost real and the graphics are good but not great. The controls have to be the best thing about this game.To do a wrestling move just push a direction on the control pad and press circle or you can just press x to do a striking attack. Simple and easy. Also finishing moves can be done just by pressing the L1 button. It works everytime. The music entrances are great and so are the arenas to choose from. The only bad thing about this game is the season mode. It's just pathetic. Also there is to much loading in this game.Overall this is a great game and if you are looking for a good wrestling game get any wrestling game from the wwf smackdown!series. In my opinion this game is better than wwf no mercy for the n64.Except no mercy has a much better season mode.

Great wrestling game29103

A gamer from Rochester, NY USA says (3/Aug/2003):
This is one probably the best wrestling game out for playstation 1.This game has a good amount of different matches to choose from but the bad thing is you have to keep playing season mode to unlock all the good things like hidden character, matches, create a wrestler options, etc. This game also has a good amount of wrestlers to choose from but they are also missing some like DDP,big show, shamrock, kevin nash, hulk hogan.Another thing that is bad is that there is to much loading in between. Also what I hate is that in table matches you cant do your finishing move on the table. But other than that the game is good.the craete a wrestler mode has improved and so have the matches. There are more wrestlers and more game options to choose from. The graphics are pretty good and so are the music entrances for the wrestlers. What I hate is sometimes I get cheated.Like when I played a hell in a cell match I Pedigreed my opponent through the top and he fell right through then when I got back down I powerbombed him through both of the announcer tables then i through him back in the ring and pedigreed him 6 times in a row and when I pinned him I only got a 1 count then my opponent did his finishing move on me and he got the 3 count that is just cheap I mean who can kick out of 6 Pedigrees?

Good for a while but gets boring...8786

Taylor Jones from Grants Pass, Orgeon, USA says (31/Jul/2002):
WWF smackdown 2 was the first high-tech wrestling game I've seen. Sure, Warzone was fun, and attitude was great but isn't it time to tech up a bit? Starting with the good parts of the game, the exhibition modes. From TLC to Table, from tag, to hardcore this game has it all! You can have hours of fun just coming up with your own story lines, playing matches, winning belts. Next onto graphics, the playstations 2-D world is getting far behind with the addition of Playstation 2 and X-box, sure it's fun but it's not interactive! The gameplay can get very boring after a while, when you have played all the matches. This game's season mode is the first of it's kind. The cutscenes in the game are amazing and somehow after attacking the peoples' champ, going to the APA, and becoming the Undisputed Champion, it's just not enough! The create modes are tons of fun especially CAW and CAS modes! There are hundreds of moves to choose from and shaping, your new juggernaut into the next champ can take a lot of work. But all in all the exhibition is still the funnest, my favorite match is definetly TLC (As if you didn't know, table, ladder, chair.) Rating this game is hard but it has it's ups and downs. It's one of those games that is fun when you get it and boring after a week.

The Best? Of course it is. Room for improvement? Definitely.8786

A gamer from Valparaiso, IN USA says (22/Dec/2000):
By far.. the best wrestling game ever, it will not, can not and shall not be topped by any other attempts at a wrestling game this year. There are tons of match options, cage, ladder,i quit, casket, hell in a cell, table, hardcore, anywhere fall, table/ladders/chair match, time limit title and more. There are tag team moves including the 3d, whassssup head to groin, spike pile driver and lots more. It has the best caw ever, you can create just about any... i mean any wrestler imaginable either your own creation or wrestlers in other leagues. It has room for improvement however, load times suck in season mode you cant just skip to the next match you have to wait through a lame simulation of each match you choose to pass over. No commentary from J.R. or the king.. no commentary at all which sux. Entrances arent that great, I like to see the wrestlers walk to the ring and do there trademark entrances they do. Instead you get to see them in front of there entrance videos with music which dont even play all the way through. However, the way that they have it you get more options to your entrances so its a give and take thing. Over all it is an awesome game and for those who have played it... can agree with me and give me a HELL YEAH!!

Why all the loading, unrealization, and horrible season play?28803

A gamer from New Richmond,WI,USA says (28/Jul/2003):
If you have played smackdown 2 you know what I mean. Any time you want to go somewhere on this game you have to let it load for about 10 seconds just to look at the rankings or title history. That may not seem like long but if you play long the time adds up. Another thing that sucks in this game is when your in royal rumble matches every time someone comes to the ring it frezes the screen and takes about 10 seconds to load. The same happens in Anywhere Fall, hardcore, and I Quit macthes. When you go to a new part in the arena you have let it load and you just sit there and wait. Another hoible thing in this game is the damage done to an opponet. You can beat them with a chair as much as you want but they get right back up. This also happens if you put them threw any table, hit them with any weapon(Including 100 pound ladders and 250 pound stares), hit them with a fork lift, and let them get hit by a car, BUT THEY STILL GET RIGHT BACK UP!!! But the worst part of this game is the season! When you skip a macth that you don't a crap about you still have to watch the the little screen that shows what happed. WHO CARES! This game takes to long to load, is very very unreal, and has a horrible season play.

Still A Brillent Game!27439

Chris Watkins from Marysville WA,USA says (8/Jul/2003):
Despite what others might say.SmackDown 2 is a great game.Even now in the 2003 era.Although it's reletively hard to find nowadays.SmackDown 2 is the best wrestling playstation game i own!Back in it's time,SmackDown 2 was the most impressive game ever. The Graphics were the best ever seen in a wrestling game. For those of you who never played the game.Shame On You!Let me give you a hands down on this seamlessely remarkable game.First,The Graphics on this game are very good. The characters do look a little big.[The Rock looks fat!]But for the most part the characters all look realistic.Next is the gameplay. The game plays just like SmackDown:Just Bring It.The characters all move smoothly and themoves you perform are totally wicked! Finally, the sound, the sound in this game is very uniqe. The music during a match is bad,but is not as bad when your not competing. The one reason i was eager to play this game was for it's season mode.I couldn't have been more disappointed. The season mode is downwright BORING! Sure it may seem cool for the first two hours, but then it just gets old fast after that.My conclusion is that this game is worth buying for any DieHard Wrestling Fan,and worth a rental for everyone else.

It is the best game out there, but it has its problems.741

Hellcat22 from Kearney, Ne, USA says (26/Nov/2000):
It might have more matches, more wrestlers, etc. But unfortunately it also has more loading time. The thing will spend as much time loading in season mode as you spend wrestling in season mode. And in season mode when you skip matches, why can't it just tell us the winner? We don't need to see the energy bars of each guy go down, that's pointless, just tell us who won. And then on the Royal Rumble mode it takes 15 seconds for each new wrestler to come out, now if you go through the customary 30 wrestlers that's seven and a half minutes of loading time, especially if a lot of wrestler get eliminated back to back. It just gets retarded. And why can you only do two moves in the table match? I can think of at least 10 moves that can put someone through a table, not counting the top rope ones. But otherwise the gameplay is great, the characters are a lot better not to mention they have the movement tendencies, that all of them have, I just wish there wasn't so much time loading. But don't get me wrong it is a great game, the best out there, if you liked this review, email me at Hellcat22< remove me > at madhive.com, and tell me if you want a review to another game. I will play the game and write a review.

Its very nyce to play!!!!!741

Isuka from Nigeria says (24/Feb/2005):
I've played the game and it made my adrenalin flow any time i play it.The music for the game makes no point at all and the uncountable loading makes the game slow. The graphics is superb but the season is not that interesting as there is no story line in it.I would have liked it better if there is a referee in the ring that you can easily knockout during fight and will be the one to disqualify of choose a winner after a fight.I will like if the game is up dated and current fighters included just as soccer game is up dated.I do not no what that man on season does.He interviews the wrestlers after a fight but always shake his head and gestures in only one way.If his reactions can not be predicted,it will make the season a little bit interesting.Again, the variety to creat a superstar,a manager, stable, taunt makes the game very interactive to the extent that i just can'nt help creating all the creatables in the game.I will also like it better if there is realistic blood gushing from the fighters after the have been smashed with a weapon expecially in anywhere fall TLC or any fight that involves the use of weapons. It is my second best comback game after mortal kombact!!

The Best Wrestling Game Ever. 'Nuff Said.2554

Spencer Christiano from New York, USA says (28/May/2001):
This game is the best wrestling game ever made. Why is that, you may ask? Well, pipe down and I just might tell ya!
1) Great graphics. This game isn't made to be a graphic adventure, but it doesn't have to be one. It has the best graphics I have ever seen in a wrestling game.
2) Great physics. Jeff Hardy performs a real swanton bomb, and The Rock does a completely accurate People's Elbow.
3)Great characters. This game has the characters you love, the characters you hate, and even the characters you've never heard of. And if you're not satisfied with that, the game has an incredible Create-A-Wrestler mode.
4)Accuracy. The characters look like the real deal, and there are even accurate enterances!
5)The game is just plain FUN! You can throw your opponents off of a steel cage, you can put wrestlers through tables, hell, you can even taunt other wrestlers!

So there you have it. I have given you what I think of this game. I have spoken the truth. What you use with my words is up to you. You may say "this dude doesn't know what he's talking about!" or you may trust me, and go out and buy the game. Trust me, it will be the best $30-40 you have ever spent.

Almost Great787

J. Anthony from Detroit, Michigan, USA says (30/Nov/2000):
Think about like this. Play WWF Warzone and then play this. The differences are many and uncanny. The hype over the internet was that this was going to be the greatest wrestling game ever created...and don't get me wrong, it is. The Season mode was extremely realistic, especially when The Rock was screwed over by Vince McMahon at SummerSlam and was forced to disband. But I do believe that the creators were in a rush to complete the game as best as they could before the Holiday season began so they left some flaws in it. The only flaw really is the reoccuring one that keeps my score from becoming a 10 and that is the loading time. Throughout all these reviews, you will notice that this is the constant concern for players. I mean, how many times should we be forced to look at Essa Rios in one sitting? But I keep playing for several hours at a time, trying to complete my first year and see how many people and things I can unlock. I'll tell you that I've had the game for a week and I still have not gotten the chance to completely explore the game. It reeks of awesomeness but the NOW LOADING screen are totally hanous.

ITS ONE OF THE BEST! but it could be better, I gave it a 8 baby YA !40768

Obinna Ijomah from NEW YORK CITY,NEW YORK STATE,THE UNITED STES OF AMERICA says (5/May/2004):
Its one of best games for the game system PS1. It could have been way better if it had burried alive matches, if even if just a little bit of the blood shown, but it is a very , very , VERY fun game. I got to admit, if the graphics improved, and if I did not have to earn or unlock the realy good people like Shawn Michaels, Bad Ass Billy Gunn, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and espesialy Cactus Jack, I would never stop playing!. I realy like the entances or theme songs that the WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION super stars and divas have. My favorite match in the game is Special guest referee because I control the match. Another one of my favorite matches is the I quit match because I like the fact that I get to beat the living crap out of someone one ontil I make them quit. I like that the game matches all the real super stars moves, every things the same, from when it comes to the clothing and outfits, specials or finihing moves, managers and teams or stables. The game has all the WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION arenas and mats, and that you can make your own super star or character and that you can make your own pay-per-view.

Best Wrestling Game To Date752

A gamer from Kitchener, Canada says (27/Nov/2000):
Well after spending an entire weekened with Smackdown 2 (much to my wife's dissappointment) I must say this game is awesome. The create a wrestler mode is simply amazing almost to many options to go through. The assigning of ability points is very realistic and the number of moves you can do is incredible. At first season mode with a created wreslter is a little slow but all you have to do is insert your guy into the rankings for one of the belts and things quickly pick up. I haven't even finished a year yet and my CAW is in every show and gets tons of cut scenes and headline matches. Another cool thing is that everynow and then some random created wrestler shows up and picks a fight with you(very good idea). Table matches are great fun even if you can only piledrive or powerbomb people though them. Ladder matches are easy just set the ladder up in the middle of the ring. The only problems are the load times can get annoying and the background music is boaring. Can't wait till they can get past the create-a-taunt feature and make a create-a-move feature (PS2 version maybe?).

o.k if your bored10697

jorden irwin from england bedford says (27/Oct/2002):
The matches could be a lot harder i used 1 special and i knocked undertaker out and my special strength was 3 bars. The graphics could be a lot better, they are hardly good. There could be a bigger selection of matches. The cut scenes in a season are a big waste of time. I dont have a challenge in TLC and ladder matches the computers dont even use a strong move before climbing the ladder so i get up, climb the turnbuckle and whup the computers ass. I cant do a 3-D through a table, the table just moves away. I put a lot of effort into making a charachter that looked like me an the closest i could get looked nothing like me! the moves could have been a lot more realistic, when you do a stone cold stunner you would'nt bounce halfway across the ring. And when you have been specialed or missile dropkicked in the face you would definately not get straight back up!the loading takes way to long. And what happend to undertakers real music, i hate the crappy music he shouldnt have rollin is way better. And what happend to the blood. And you cant hit someone in mid air and they fall over.

Pretty damn close to be the greatest wrestling game on the planet1878

Omer from Canada says (27/Jan/2001):
I've played many wrestling games from WWF warzone to Smackdown 2. Obviously those were different times, but this game has a lot of things wrong with it. The reason is because the people that should be making the game are the fans of the WWF. If I had a chance to make a WWF game it would go through the charts. When you're wrestling you can't exactly listen to annoying music, have J.R.(the greatest wrestling announcer) announce the matches, the season mode is just too long I didn't play for almost two months and I don't really care if Scotty Too Hotty is getting his but kicked by some mid carder. The way I unlocked Stone Cold was really cool, umm during season mode why is Stone Cold fighting Road Dogg in a main event at either Raw is War or Smackdown. When did Road Dogg become a main event wrestler, also the fact that he just got fired from the WWF like hello. The Dudley Boyz steal the show with the 3D, but can somebody tell me how to do the 3D through a table? WWF Smackdown 2....simply amazing. Please someone email me with the answer if there is an answer.
