My Opinion? Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is The Best Playstation Game Yet! |  Arend Hart from Michigan says (10/Oct/2000): | Let's start of with a big HURRAH! for Neversoft, who once again prove they are the best at what they do. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 follows up the already amazing THPS1 with the coolest game for the Playstation yet. These guys really know what they're doing.
Forget Grind Session, Street Sk8ter 2, Thrasher Skate and Destroy and the tedious 2,3xTreme series. None compare to the control and design of the Tony Hawk series. The first one was (and still is) way cool - the second one is a masterpiece.
No other game has such detailed design. From the high-flying airs to the coccyx-shattering ass plants, you'll be left on the edge of your seat for hours on end. Like your favorite bartender's signature Bloody Mary, it's the perfect mix - in this case arcade and sim - and it tastes great with Beer as well. THPS2 is hard enough to be a challenge, but controlled easily enough to get in a groove and run with it.
And, with the new Skatepark Editor and tons of unlockable secrets, THPS2 has unlimited replay value.
I'll say it again...This is by far the BEST Playtation game, ever.
By the way, I'm in the midst of building a class action lawsuit against Neversoft for my twitching eyes, burning forearms and sore thumbs as well as my burnt-up console, all caused by their highly addictive games. As being old enough to remember Skate or Die on the IBM back in the 80s with it's blistering downhill runs ... hasn't technology come a long way? What I like best about this is the ability to throw in stuff like a jet pack or skate in low gravity or alternatively just cruise as per real skating. Good if you skate .. or skated at some point. The option of playing as 80s Tony really brought back memories of everyone trying to grow long blonde fringed hair to be just like Tony. Hey why not an early 90s long haired ponytail Tony as well? The amount of 'hip hop' in the soundtrack to this game is utterly disgusting. The challenges you are required to undertake can be frustrating while remaining addictive because you just HAVE to collect that last icon of $$$ way way up top that's seemingly out of reach. Same format as before, you undertake challenges to result in redemption of money for increased stats and tricks plus after all 'gaps' are completed you aquire a hidden character that skates in a bikini .., surely to please some adolescent boys out there. The thing is but.. after you've done all the challenges and 'completed' the game there's plenty of fun to be had just crusing the well designed and realistic levels. The realism of this game grabs me actually the most. Of course good graphics and control, etc. but what else could you expect from Neversoft?

Every "extreme" sports game has been influenced by this classic release since it came out. SSX, Aggresive Inline, and others are direct cousins to Tony Hawk's gameplay and style. The music features some of the best music ever to grace video games. Rage Against the Machine, Styles of Beyond, Naughty by Nature, and so many more make this the game if you want good music. The Graphics pump all that's worth out of the limited playstation processor.
OK, so nice models and sound are groovy, but what makes this game so good is it's gameplay. from collecting cash to racing the timer to get your points in, you will have quite a good time even on free skate. you can make a skater and turn him into a pro. park editor offer great variety in the pieces, and it's fun to be a tester for your masterpeice. The levels are diverse and big. You'll go everywhere from Mexico to a school and even to Skate Planet.
Graphic Snobs may moan and perfectionists will complain, but if you want a game that does everything good in everyway, buy Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2. Also, this game is cheap in price, which means the rich and the poor can have this game.

Keep up the great work Neversoft | | adam from Sydney, Australia says (1/Oct/2001): | well, what can i say, except "HOLY CRAP!" this game is unlike any other game to take to the playstaion. i purchased this game before even trying it out or reading a review, beacause i knew if it was anthing like the first Tony Hawk then i would be somewhat not let down and even flabergastured. that i was!
THPS2 is undoubtly one of the best games on the playstation. it gameplay is stunning and so is the whole structure and engine the game runs on. this game boasts superb graphics and music that is rivalled by no other game. this is a beauty!
the new stages are so well set up and reaslistic (and they are HUGE!) that i feel like i am really in phillidelphia or venice beach grinding a rail with Fu Manchu's "evil eye" booming on a stereo in the background. the new skaters as well as the originals are even better then they were in the first Tony Hawk with new tricks to accompany them and stylish new clothes they wear, sponsered by the top skating brands.
2 player action is great fun with new modes such as tag and a mode that the original lacks, free skate, for the non competitive wimps out there.
to sum up my review i would like to say that this game in an excellent one that is a must purchase if you wish to get the most out of your playstation. keep up the good work neversoft!

When i heard that tony hawk was coming out with a sequal, i was one of the first people to get it. You remember how the first game sold. I had to wait a while till i could get one. I went out and ordered it this time. And i definitely was not dissapointed. The games graphics were way beyond what i was imagining the sequel to have. The music was way better....(but cut out Papa Roach). The create a park was an excellent addition. Being a skater myself, i used my imagination, and almost everything i wanted to do, i could. though the game does need more choices and less restrictions regarding that. Create a skater was awesome. All in all the game is great. Never get tired of playing it. But hurry up with Tony Hawk 3. here are some suggestions. more players, more choices on the create a park mode. A special section for real life skateparks. Levels could be bigger. also it would be cool to have more options on the skateboard, such as bearing type, truck type. Definitely more levels. Pedestrians would be cool, cops. It would also be cool if you could drive a car to certain spots and then skate it. But hey those are just ideas for Tony Hawk 3. It would be rad if you guys actually use these ideas. thanks for a great game.
| Amazingly, it surpasses the first Tony Hawk's Pro Skater | | Jesse Yeakle from West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA says (25/Sep/2000): | If you compare THPS with THPS2, you will find that this sequel is a worthy competitor. It comes with features such as create a skater, create your own park, several two player games, and level so big you can get lost. The career mode in THPS2 is very different than that of it's parent. Instead of having five challenges per level, and recieving tapes to increase your stats, you make money by completing many more challenges per level. Each completed challenge gives you different amounts of money, which you can use to buy better boards, better tricks, or raise your stats. There are several drawbacks to sequel of last years best sports game. One annoyance that I found was the fact that the skaters seem much slower in the beginning of their career. Also, levels are very hard to complete being that they have 10 challenges and by the fourth level the high score challenge is up to 200,000 points. Ridiculous! The musical score to this games include Rage Against the Machine, Papa Roach, and Powerman 5000. Much better than the last score. In conclusion, I give this game a 10 out of 10 simply because I can not stop playing, and it makes the first THPS seem like childs play. You will definitely get your money's worth on this game!
| Most addictive, entertaining game ever!!! | | Evan from Calgary, Alta, Canada says (28/May/2001): | It's games like these that give companies like N 64, Play Station, and PS2 something that you need to buy. The game surpasses the first one in many ways. More moves, more characters, better designs, better features on the characters. There was something that has been distracting me for a while though. When you create a skater, it's fun to use him a lot, and you use him as your main character. It kind've takes away the enjoyment of the other characters. Same with the parks, you make one, and continuesly play on that one, while the other parks aren't used as much.
Another thing that bugs me on it is the amount of goals there are in the level, in the first one there was only 5 fairly difficult ones, in this there's 10, and it's difficult to get only 4 in some of the more difficult ones. Philadelphia is probably the worst level they made too, it's pure grinding accept for a hidden area. I had to use cheats to get some of them.
All in all though, even with those defaults, the game is a must need game to buy. The two player makes you wanna have a friend over finally, the new levels, and variety of moves are amazing, and the new characters are awesome!
This is most diffinetly one of or not if the best games ever!

There is many possibilities in this game: Like you choose and buy your own tricks, boards and stats... make your own skater, and your own courses(both REALLY cool)... and of course there is an endless list of secrets and cheats wich you get by playing the game with each one of the many caracthers. Just to mention a few things.
This is a game, much like the first, when that one first arrived, wich has gameplay wich lasts for weeks and weeks to come. BUT, of course it`s not perfect... I can`t give it 10 out of 10, but then I can`t give that score to any other game either, only this game comes really close to the 10.. The reason why it's not perfect is a couple of details, first of all it is the well known problem, when you make your own courses, with the rails and curbs are over the head of the skater in height. And when you make your own skater, why is it not possible to start with all stats at zero?? The sim(ulation) mode which is cool, could have been even better.. and when you make your own courses you should have more possibillities..
But all in all it`s a very cool game!!

| A review from the BRD MAN! | | BiG bAd BrD maN from Toronto, Ontario, Canada says (28/Sep/2000): | When one of my friends purchased Tony2 last week he stated "Oh s$!t, the Tony2 tumor is going to be way bigger than the first" Now after a week of some serious "grind sessions" I must forewarn you that he was absolutely right! This game is the real deal. I had played the demo and was so stoked by the little taste they gave us, but let me tell you that that little taste, as great as it was, was not even an acurate sample of how awesome this game is. The possibilities to rack up in this game are endless, with the new addition of the mannual. We were racking up 200 000 point trick's with in a few hours. It took signifigantly longer to achieve this feat in the first one but once we did our high scores rose into the 600 000's and beyond. I look forward to see how "high" we can get with this latest gem of video gaming excellance.
In closing, think of all that time you spent on Tony as putting in your dues in the "minors". Now guess what, you're being called up to the "Big Leauges". Tony'2 is the real deal folks.

The new manuals are really cool. If you pratice enough you can keep going on 1 move by keep doing mamuals.
Also the create a park is really cool. You can put anything you want. Like stairs gaps bricks poles and anything else. And it is really cool when you play with 2 players in a park you built by yourself.
Also The create a skater is cool too. You can make your own pro and give them the tricks you want them to have.
Also they have lots more skaters now. Now they have Tony Hawk, Bob Burnquist,Steve Gaballero,Karrem Campbell,Rune Glifberg, Erik Koston, Bucky Lasek, Rodny Mullen, Chad Muska, Andrew Reynolds, Geoff Rowley, Elissa Steamer, Jamie Thomas. And they have speicals characters. Old favorites like officer dick and private carrer. And new ones like trixie and the super hero spider-man.
Simply put pikc this game up you won't regret it!
| All-Around Amazing | | A gamer from Illinois says (4/Jan/2001): | Every single aspect is amazing. I played THPS1 from when it came out until I got THPS2. The only thing lacking in THSP2 compared to 1, is the level design. The levels are great, but dont have the same charm as 1, with linking things together without manuals. In many areas, it seemed the levels were not finished because there was just open space for no reason. Everything else in THPS2 makes up for that though. I thought the only problem with 1 was the same music played over and over agian, but 2 was fixed by putting all kinds of music that play in order. Adding manuals was great because it lets you go around a whole level just continuing 1 trick, which is COOL. Creat-a-skater is cool, but doesn't add much, but being able to create a skate park adds soo much more life to the game. Sound and graphics are great and improved from the first. This is the only game that has given me blisters from playing it so much. Great game for anyone.

Almost every sequel includes some new and cool things, like the park editor, but, I just found this game to be somewhat of a repeat. If you are bored with Tony Hawk 1, u might want to rent this one before buying. Graphics are the same as the first, levels weren't innovatively designed as promised, and after reading that many secret areas were accessable, i expected alot. What i got was a few little drab places that were about as exciting and appealing as a Roseanne Barr television concert special. The park editor didn't deliver as well. I wanted more than one level of things to make!!!! IT gets old after a while, and u only have a certain amount of things to place. Sorry, Tony, but next time, throw something more at us than what Tony Hawk 2 did.

You can fly in this game and go to Skate Heaven (If you have the right codes). After about an hour, you will have already finished the first player. My favorite level has to be School 2. There is this secret place that no one knows, unless you get the secret tape in that level. The competitions are way harder than in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. This game seems sooooo much better. If you don't have this game, you better turn off this computer, go to a video game store, and buy this mother f#< remove me > at *ing game. As my brother would say 'This is the sh*t!! You have more clothes and characters to choose from and the graphics are really awsome. I do like the create your own skater mode. The more new skaters, the better. I also think that the cursing in this game is really interesting.

The best part of the game is when you unlock the skate heaven. Chopper Drop, hawaii sucks all the way, but it's funny to drop to the sharks!. Well, other cool part of the game is completing all the gaps, man! how i got disgusted trying to get some of the hardy ones! bu they're all clear by now. It would be nice that the programmers had the idea of changing the grinding trick while you are grinding as you can do in THPS 4, and also the same stuff with the liptricks. It's cool to play out with officer Dick and private carrera. Little Person in THPS 4 is really stupid, though. Looks like i'm comparing THPS 2 and 4. the 3rd. is kinda silly, but both of them are the ones i like. Please email me.

It surpasses its predecessor in gameplay, graphics, fun, and learning curve. However, in many levels the pro score challenge alone is over 100,000 points. In THPS, the pro score tape never surpassed 50,000. My biggest complaint with THPS2 is concerning the soundtrack. Although the tracks from Millencolin, Bad Religion, Papa Roach, Rage Against the Machine and Powerman 5000 are awesome, there are way too many hip hop and rap songs which simply don't belong in a skateboarding game. Also, in THPS I enjoyed every song on the soundtrack (which featured Suicide Machines, Vandals, Goldfinger, among others) where in this one I only like about 5 or 6.

NONE of my mates skate so thay had not herd of him ither. Then this game came out and everyone whent tony mad. Now half of my city skate because of this game. Its the best one for playstation out of the 1 & 2 & 3. This game has some realy cool moves and the cheats are amazing. Dont soil the game by using them until you have completed the game. everytime you complete it with a differnt person you ern a new cheat. The levels are a lot bigger than the first and you can create your own. I have a gamecube and tony hawks 4 but if it wasnt for the sales this game made tony hawks 4 probably wouldnt be out there.
| Unbreakable!!!! | | Sean from Ontario says (6/Mar/2001): | If u thought the first one would never get off the top charts, i cant even explain were this would be.... this is such a versitile game: create your own skater, create your own levels!!!, and use them in the career mode. U can almost never finish this game entirley because there is soo much to do and u get new things u beat the game. The realism of of the moves are really exact but it does have some unreasonable reality (which makes all the more funner) like getting major air!! but having the element of balance, keeps the game in perspective. Having a gap checklist will always keep u busy. anyway theis game is soo great, great music etc. it definately deserves a 10.

| THPS 2 Kicks bootie! | | TJ Linsey from Hobbs, NM, 88240 says (28/Dec/2000): | I first played the demo several months ago, AND I must say that I was very impressed. The graphics were smooth and the sound fx were cool. I went and bought it the day it was released. To this very day, I play it until sometimes three in the morning. This is so much better then any other skating game out there, even better than THPS! It is sooooooooo addictive. I'd tell anyone to buy it. My only beef is the soundtrack has to many hip-hop songs. Granted a lot of skaters enjoy that stuff, but not this cracker. Tracks 3 and 6 (RATM and PM5k, respectivly) are the best!
