This is probally one of the best final fantasy games ever made the graphics were awsome for ps1 and it took a long time to beat the game so if any 1 says that it is too long i highly disagree with them i loved the storey line and liked how the bosses were so challenging like Ozma the toughest S.O.B ever in ff9 and same with necron the party that i used to beat necron was zidane, vivi , stiener, and aramant i had them equiped with their last weapons exept for stiener he was equiped with the Ragnarok and basically whooped his ass with shock (stiener) and flare (vivi) and just attacked with zidane and aramant and when needed i used aramants flair special revive and revived my fallen guys and basically just anihalated necron. But ya back to the game:) i loved doing the side quests because wut betta way to get stronger weapons for your party i loved all the secrets in the game and the ending it was the best i have ever seen the. some bosses where rilly challenging and who ever dissagree's with me can go lick them selves umm i played this game 4 times just so i can beet the game with every thing but i was unseccessful and i am currently playin it again. so if anyone has any problems just email me and i will gladly help u out. other than that THIS GAME ROX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a great game at the time(still is fun to play), then the 2nd one came out and it just got better. Things went down hill after that. FF3(6 in Japan) was a great overall game but the technology was starting to creep into the game then came FFVII. FFVII was a great game all around but I thought there was to much technology. FFVIII came out and I was thoroughly dissapointed. It just left an overall bad taste especially after having to fight the end guy 4 times. FFIX comes out and all of a sudden my FF interest is renewed. From the moment I turned it on, I was impressed. Gone was the technology, airships and crystals are back. Black mages with pointy hats and did I mention limited technology? The medevil feel is back, this game is like FF1 & 2 rolled up into one game. I am only on disk 2 but I am loving the game. If only the last one could have been this good. I am also realizing that most of the people who dislike this game have NOT grown with the series. They picked it up when it hit the playstation. They never went through the NES & SNES years. If you went through those years, then you would truly have an appreciation for Fianl Fantasy XI. Excellect job Square.

The graphics, for PS1 are INSANE, no matter how many of you stuk up rich punks who get everything you want think they were bad. The game is art, square worked incredibly hard on it, and WHY??? To please people, and make money, But who doesnt try to make money? The thing about the game was, even though you couldnt quite grasp what it was about it that made you like or dislike it, I'll tell you what it was. Love. The theme of love is in almost all of the FF games and clealy I haven't gotten tired of it so at least square will always have me backing their work up. Zidane, Garnet, Bandit, Quina, Eiko, Blink, even Mog..... All of these characters will never lose their charm, and they always have a place in the back of my heart, no matter how cheesy it sounds. I'm 14, and clearly I have a better prespective on all of this than you do, except for those 10 star fans out there. I can't express how greatful I am for the final fantasy series of games. I love everything about all of them, and no matter how frustrating anyone else can be about the matter, these games will always be a top pick for america and japan. Wow..... thank you square. (and im not fat, i weigh 128lbs, and im 14 for all you stuck up rich boys)

FFVII was a great game, not the greatest FF, but up there. Then Square came out with FFVIII. I thought it was just lousy. Way to futuristic. In FFIX, it's back to the fantasy. This game had me hooked ever since the beginning. The chararcters may have looked alittle too goofy but it was a good kind of goofy. The storyline is this game just isn't told to you straight-up. You have to use common sense and read between the lines to fully understand the storyline. The music in this game was just fantastic. Just hearing the music reminded me of playing FFII(American), which in my opinion is the best. The graphics in this game were spectacular, and the artwork was great(thanks Yo$#< remove me > at !aka Amano). The new ability system was a good idea, it reminded me of the Esper learning deal in FFIII(America). The trance seemed to always come at the best time for me, at least one of my group memebers went into during the final bosses. The one thing I really thought was the best thing Square did was allow you to put 4 memebers in your party instead of 3, even though I wish it would've been a 5 party system. All around this game was great, I give it a perfect 10!!
| this is one of the best games i ever played | | joey from loudon,tn,usa says (25/Nov/2004): | i realy liked this game. my favourite character is vivi he cast some pretty sweet spells.the graphics were in between and i'd give this game a replay value a 9 out of 10. my favourite summon is phoenix he looks really cool.the music on this game is really good.i bet it took awile to make a game as great as this.my favourite spell is flare if you cast it on your self with reflectx2 and auto reflect on.it will reflect on your enemies and do a total of 9999 damage this is how i beat hades.the music with kuja is cool.ff9 would stomp any other final fantasy games ass. ill tell you where the ultima weapon is found first you need a dark blue chocobo go to the exact place where shimmering island was then use a dead pepper and choco should dive down and find a chest containing zidane's ultima weapon thi weapons attack power is 100 and takes a ton of hp .you canget a gold chocobo by gettin 6 chocograph pieces id like to know one thing how the heck do you get another pumice piece it can summon ark that would really help me out. i also dont know the jar combination at ipsens castle thats the thing ive been trying to figure out for weeks.some of the battles are extremely hard but some are easy.i love this game and its cool.the end

For instance in FF7 I think that the way materia went is better than any other way magic or abilities ever went. Because you could choose what kind of magic you wanted to buy and you could also choose who you wanted to be a white magician or a black magician. And you could pick who got the right to what summonds. In FF9 you have to gain those stupid ap points to get your abilities. And if you have ever played ff10 then you will know that the characters and the story plot were better than any other final fantasy. So in other words combine ff7 and ff10 and you will come out with the best final fantasy game ever made. But anyway back to ff9 the #1 reason I got the game was because I have played every other final fantsy ever and beat them all. But ff9 had its good parts like towards the 3rd and 4th disc it started to get interesting. And finally i thought that the characters were pretty good. Well im done it probably sounds like im dissing the game and your wondering why its getting such a respectable rating but come on it is a final fantasy game and all of the ff's are the best rpg's ever.

I started with 9, then played 7, then tactics, followed by 10, the 8, 5, and 6, then 4, which i just got recently. Anyway, back on topic.
PLUSSES OF THE GAME:
FF9 is the second best final fantasy after 7, and a great return to the Old School FF style. This game was absolutely incredible.
GRAPHICS-9/10-great backround graphics, preety good human graphics
STORY-9/10-very deep, memorable story, great work of art
CHARACTERS-9/10-the characters built up from start to finish
GAMEPLAY-8/10-good except for ability system
BATTLE SYSTEM-9/10-superb
MUSIC-10/10-enough said, just listen
NEGATIVES OF THE GAME:
There were only three negative things about this game
1) girly boss- kuja.....is female, in my opinion
2) dry map- not enough towns
3) ability system(thats why i gave the gameplay 8 of 10)
As a review in one sentence: Final Fantasy 9 is gourgeous game with lush environments and a great story, play it, its worth it

| it's good,but not as good as expected | | Tony M. from eugene, oregon says (7/Dec/2000): | Now I've been playing games ALMOST non-stop since the age of five(I'm now fourteen.)We all know the good points about this game so I'll head straight for the bad.The main problem is that the storyline is so-o weak and they pathetically attempt to cover it up with cool cinemas and that dorky active event crap...and as usual you get ALL of your characters early in the game.Also the game doesn't have good mini-games and it has these long side quests that people looking for a break and some fun really just don't want...plus those side quests really bring down the replay factor(as if it wasn't low enough!)This game is a major let down to hardcore RPG fans,however my devotion to final fantasy is strong and they almost tricked me with those really cool cinemas.If only they put more time into zidane & sarah's(princess garnet)relationship I might have been crying at the end...The source of a solution would probably have been making the game have like six discs(for more stuff.) I give this game a seven because I really liked that they sticked with putting in a cool song like ff8.....The last dissapointment I will report is that they apparently dropped gold saucer from their sequals.

Its graphics were great for an PS1 game ...i would say it could even pass as an early PS2 game. Its sounds were okish the music themes were great they changed everytime somthing different happened. My faveorite final fantasy "was" FFVII but it seems i have a new one now. OH Yeah to u FFVII freaks out there i only like FFVII for the story line not sounds or graphics or anything else. #1 FFVII graphics sucked so bad my eyes hurt from playing. Their hands were squares -.-;Anyways FFIX story line is great it was not original like the others because for once the main charectar of an FF game HAS A TAIL!!!Each charectar had their own personality which was really good. I give this game a fun factor of 9 out of 10. I wish they made a sequel to this game like they did for FFX. GOT problems with my review...email me and we will "discuss" it out.I typed up this review beacause i had finally beat it due to its 4 discs so i can't say it has a short life span. The side quest were hard and the secret weapons took alot oout of me but i have acheived the stage where it all pays of.
| Final Fantasy 9 was the best! | | FFgamer from LA, USA says (1/Feb/2004): | FFIX easily outdid FFVIII on any day. It's storyline was fantastic as well as the battle sequence. Gamers will not be dissatisfied with the game. The story doesn't just focus on the main character, but all seven of his companions too. The game has a perfect mix of action and romance. It also returns to the older fantasy outlook, and not the newer futuristic look of FFVII and FFVIII. Sound was fantastic and so were the FMVs. There still wasn't any talking during FMVs though. Battle sequence has classic victory music to remind players of FFVII and FFVIII. After finishing the game, I just wanted more. The ending also will patch up everything unlike FFVII's short ending that left questions. FFIX has amazing characters, each with their own stories behind them, and doesn't focus on any one character for a long period of time. You also play with other characters, so you are not always the main character. Some characters, you will like, others are rather creepy, but hey, not everyone is going to be sane. In my opinion, FFVII, FFVIII, and FFIX, should all get sequals. They were all amazing. Just to show that Square Enix cannot come up with a bad game.

I think final fantasy 9 has go to be the worst compared to the other final fantasies and rpgs alike. The one thing that really annoyed me was how stupid the character looks .. they all look like animals dayum.. Amarant does look like a gorilla, Quina is some blob of pink, eiko's a lil midget, freya's a walking chicken, and ZIDANE is a monkey? at least come up with a better look for the main char. since he'l be there for the whole game. At least Cloud and Squall looks cool or decent.. but a monkey>?? I think squaresoft was drunk while they made this. The graphics and sound was decent, storyline and originality is pathetic.. (the usual princess/princess rescue case) , lifespan is short and fun factor is 3/4? I think the game was decent but compared to all the other RPGS i played, this one seemed pretty pathetic and childish for the younger generation (since the chars look so kiddish and small) Garnet is suppose to be 17/teenager when she looks 10 years old.. *Weird*

I think this games a comobo since they used the same type of gameplay (job classes ) as FFT, they reused the MP from FFVII which they had taken out from FFVIII and fromVIII well they didnt have to use anything from that game since it has been the easiest in all FF history "my point of view". I also enjoyed very much the ATE (active time event) that makes the game have very differnets point of views for the game such as: a boy trying to find out who he is where he came from, another trying to save her mother from doing any evil, one trying to fulfill his duty as a knight protecting the princess, another trying to make his the girl of his dreams , and one coming up to his honor having lost to you since yu spare his life is now yur companion , and others just looking for food . thats what makes this game so great but for something extra : if yu whant a good game buy final fantasy tactics. and please dude put my review up i think peopl should know about the really godd ff which is tactics later VIVA MEXICO

The story line is awsome, the AP system yo earn abilities is great compared to ff7 or ff8, and the personalities of the characters are just amazing. I know that the graphics aren't up to the quality they could be but the amazing cinemas make up for it. The game is a good starting ff game for rookie players and veterans alike. 9 offers challenges for both types. Many would say that the non-realistic world hampers the gaming but I completly disagree. The type of world only opens up more possbilities. Another thing I like is the much better chocobo side quests. ff7 chocobo quests takes longer than the game it's self. All the waiting for the right chocobo and the breeding and the racing just eventually gets old. And to add to that you have to do it to get the best items of the game. Now about 8, the chocobo quests in 8 are just boring and uninteresting. There isn't even any point to it. In 9 the chocobo quests in 9 are fun and make you think. I have to say I don't hate 7 or 8, it's just there are things that could have been better. I've played ff 5-10 and I personaly think 9 is the best.

Then i couldn't beat one of the final bosses cause my characters levels sucked. Then after another year i didn't want to pick up where i lost so i started another file. took me 50 more hours added on to my earlier 30 but let me tell you.. it was worth it. Loved the characters and The plot was pretty cool and i liked the side quests too. On my second time around i found the last bosses really easy. I mean when i got to the last boss i just used Zidane and stiener with everyone else dead. Zidane was at 61 and steiner was lower. The did 9999 damage all the way, and when i beat it i was like... Thats it? Man sin in FFX was a lotter harder to kill. Maybe it was because i took a few hours of side quests to get zidane's ultimate weapon. This game is only the second ff i played and it could Tie with my thoughts on FFX. This game rocks i'd play it over for another 50 hrs again if someone asked me to. I liked the ending as well all is good in it really intersting, cool and one of the best and longest endings for a video game i've seen

I've played FFVI FFVII FFVIII and FFX, and they were UNBELIEVABLY AWESOME at best. However, this one was kind of around Superbly Awesome "if superbely is a word" and perfect game. However, perfect game goes to Legend of Legaia, so this gets 2nd Place. The graphics are amazing for a PS1 game, even for the early PS2 games the graphics were great. The music was top-knotch, especially after I had to go through the gritty mess that FFVII had to offer "nenenenene...nenenene...that's what FFVII sounds like". The storyline gets pretty intense later on. The only problem I had with the game was Kuja. This guy was not a guy. I'm telling you, the first time I saw it...I almost blew up in shock when I found out Kuja was of the male gender. What a weirdo! What was Squaresoft thinking?!?! Anyways, if you like FF get this game. It's brimming with great graphics and an amazing thing called "humor" which is lacking in the other games of the series. Ah yes...humor. Something I missed entirely in the days of yore when I used to play Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot.
| Top 3 RPG Ever. Period. | | Alyson from Norfolk usa says (8/Jul/2005): | In my opinion, the top three RPGs are FF9, FF10, and Zelda;Ocarina of Time. But since we're talking about FF9, I'll focus on that. I realize I might be biased since this was the second RPG I ever played, but I don't care. The gameplay was awesome, the characters were easy to identify with, and (unlike other people) I didn't have any trouble with understanding the plot. Plus the surroundings are so detailed and (dare I say it?) pretty! And when this game first came out, it had the best cutscene graphics out there. Personally, I still think it does. And don't forget the side missions and minigames. I got my chocobo up to the golden level, and then you can go to chocobo's cloud or something. I had to have my big brother help me out when we got to Pandemonium. Yeah that was kindof tough. But I just went back and trained a bit and raised my Chocobo's level. I don't remember everything about the storyline because I was like 9 when I beat it. Don't let that sway you though! I was very skilled at a young age! lol So if you were trying to decide on a game to buy that will have you completely, FF9 is your best bet.

I pretty much ignored it until i heard that Final Fantasy VIII had come out. My friend being a fan of Final Fantasy decided we'd rent it at blockbuster. So we brough it home, and i just sat there and i watched him play this game. Then not long after, Final Fantasy IX had come out, me and my friend had both gotten it for x-mas. He called me a fool for wanting the game so bad that i had never even showed the slightest bit of intrest in. But i played that game night and day non-stop. Being my first time playing a game like this, it was difficult to me. So id start over every now and then. Before i got the chance to beat the game or atleast try to beat it. I had bought FF 8. I had played it all day and all night until i got stuck on the 3rd disc agaist Mobyle Type 8 boss. After that i went back to FF 9 and beat the game. The ending was...i dont even know how to describe it. It was unlike any other game. Ever since i bought these games they've been like my life. Like a post i read earlier...if there were more stars, they'd all be filled!

Cuz I'm almost there, and I really see no improvement. Compared to FF7, 8, and 10, this game sucks the big one. And I totally agree with Brad; how can you turn a perverted monkey-boy into a hero? I do admit that Vivi was cute, but after a while his "What am I? Am I real? What's gonna happen to me? Oh boo hoo" talk just kind of got on my nerves. And I have three words to describe Quina: what. the. hell. The graphics are pretty good, the fighting...eh, nothing to cheer about, the storyline......umm, wait, what was it again? Oh yeah, save a princess from her evil clownish mother and some unknown guy with white hair who makes black mages, stop some mist.....uhhh, is there any more? Did I miss something? Or is this game just as simple as it appears? I'm sorry, but from now on I'll go play games with the grownups, you know, games that grip ya from the beginning and don't even let up until a week after you've finished the game.
