It was so cool!! |
| Kristen from Montcalm, USA says (30/Sep/2003): |
Okay, I know everybody's getting bored with the rogue saves the princes thing, but Zidane isn't your average rogue, and Garnet isn't your average princess. I mean, how can anyone call her wimpy? She stood her ground against her own family for god's sake!Zidane was too soft-hearted to be a true rogue, and he believed in doing what was right. THat was the reason I loved this game! They weren't the average characters, and they had varied responses to various situations. Garnet surprised everyone, but putting them all to sleep. Not a very princessly thing to do. Aside from that, Vivi was not your ordinary mage. He was frightened, like a small child would be. Eiko crushed hard on Zidane, just like a six year old romantic girl would. AMarant acted like a tough guy, but he had empathy. The one thing I had a problem with, however, was there were no voice overs. It would have been so nice to hear Garnet singing to Zidane, and to have Zidane make his advances.

final fantasy is a great game |
| chris from canada says (1/Nov/2004): |
I think final fantasy is a great game it has cool graphics and gameplay that blows my mind i beat the game and it was cool.Tip here is some tips try to save money because each city has stronger wepons also try to beat strong monsters because they give loads of money if you find wierd key items keep them because some people by them around the end of the game for about 2000 gill you will battle guardiens when you beat them you can battle them again in crystal form in crystal world on top of the big tree on disk for around the end of the game.when you beat the game there are cool graphics at the end of the game when you beat the god of life. The god of life is the strongest and hsrdest to beat the fastest way to beat him is to use the guy who throws wepons and throw wepons at the boss make the wepons powerful.the four people i used to beat the game was dagger, vivi, the guy who throws wepons and the main person you get at the start of the game. That is how i beat the game

Final Fantasy Series are back with the best game of the series
and also THE BEST GAME EVER MADE in the history of videogames!
Now everything is different. Centuries better than FFVIII and FFVII, Final Fantasy IX is a whole different than other games.
The "juction" menu is now dissapeared(hopefully)and the FMV are better now! I recommend you to buy this game.

This game is sorta good because....... |
| A gamer from Canada says (5/Dec/2000): |
Just in case u think that I am insulting this game, I'm not. One thing I hate is the summons because you can't use them right away! On the other hand they look better. This game is really good and lot's of FMV sequences. I give this game a 5 out of 5.

Another good Final Fantasy as Usual |
| Mike says (11/Dec/2000): |
I really enjoyed this final fantasy all though i am going to have to say it was way too easy. With only 21 hours logged into the game I was on disc 4? Less than a day? Wow - unusual for Final Fantasy. However unlike the first Jack-ass on the review list i think the story was a good one, and i liked how each character while fighting for the same goal, also were on their own adventures. Another thing i liked were the ATE's they helped u get a feel for where the characters were coming from. WEll i guess it is time to wait for FF10!

Probably the greatest ff game since final fantasy 6(aka 3) |
| ben from ca., usa says (14/Dec/2000): |
Final Fantasy 9 is probably the best final fantasy game since ff6. Now let me just say that this game is magic, as it is able to capture the feel of our beloved ff games. The beginning of the game is reminiscent of ff6... a great intro that throws you into the game without any confusing battle system. The game is easy to start, with the final fantsy 5&6 style main page.
The characters are innocent in the beginning, almost making us believe that this game was meant for "12 year old girls" with its simplicity, but as you progress through the game and get more intimate with the characters, you begin to realize the complexity of the game. Take for instance Vivi; in the beginning we make out Vivi as a young adolecent that seems to be light-hearted and shy, but as the game progresses, we subtly begin to see Vivi's past and what is in store for him.
The graphics on this masterpiece is vivid and wonderful. Each rendered background draws us into the game, capturing the moment. I would say that this is probably the playstion1 at its finest as this game gives the system a thorough workout! The CG's are just marvelous and beautiful, helping the story advance.
Another part of the game that i believe truely sticks out is the music. When i first got into a battle in the game, it sent a cold shiver down my spine as the fimilar bass sound that started battles in ff5&6 makes a triumphant return and the original score of the game is just outstanding.
This game will go up there in rpg legend as one of the greatest game ever. It makes us feel like a kid again and i use it in a good way. This game just brings back memories of the battle with kefka in the tower of doom, the emotional death of Aries, and the emotional sacrifice in ff2 as the heroes of the game are revived with the prayers of the people that cared and helped them, so that they my fight and save the world. It'll rightfully go up there with games such as The Phantasy Star Series, Chrono Trigger, and the Dragon Warrior(quest) Series!

Oh Yeah! |
| A gamer from Hartwell, GA U.S.A. says (18/Dec/2000): |
I believe this to be the best Final Fantasy yet. Others may not like the ATE system, but I think that it adds depth to the plot. One of the other aspects of the game that I find quite interesting is the ability to fight with four characters. I think that it enables you to have a vast number of options when it comes to the battle sequences. One thing that disappoints me is the fact that you can not simultaneously switch characters like in the more recent ff's. this makes for more difficult gameplay, but also makes for a far greater adventure.

Final Fantasy IX brings the best of both worlds. |
| thetrudude from Calgary AB Canada says (9/Jan/2001): |
This should be simple. Final Fantasy IX did what Square said it would. It took the best of the old, and the best of the new. Like most gamers, I didn't find the post-SNES FF's very interesting, with a futuristic plot, and loss in a sense of magic systems. In FF9, Square took the medieveal world of FF6 and earlier, and mixed in the Animation, graphics, and familiarity to newer FF gamers if the Post-SNES era, and gave Gamers a new game with the best of both worlds. the ATB battle system is as good as ever, the class-magic system and the exp. system both make returns, and the Ability Junction system is much simpler, making it an easy task to Junction abilities instead of 40 min. (FF7) or 30 min. (FF8) it shouldn't take much longer than 30 seconds to junction all your abilities. In short Final Fantasy IX delivered, and square yet again achieved what they said they would do.

Something Not Quite Right |
| Patrick.H from Toronto, Canada says (8/Feb/2001): |
Of course everyone else would blatantly praise the merits of Square's latest mega-hit, but not I.
I became an avid Playstation fan due to the hooking storyline of FF7, and a year after, 8.
There was something subtle missing in FF9, I was not "drawn in" or "hooked" as I was in the prequels.
An unimaginative storyline and not-so-animated characters, I suppose.
The graphics and FMV are blameless, however.
An uninspiring game that lacks something precious in the FF formula.

Finally Final Fantasy has come back.... |
| Jim from Phila., PA says (16/Feb/2001): |
Call me an "old head", call me a "purist", but I think this FF is much better then 7 & 8. The whole point behind the FF series was fun, crazy, out-of-this world characters. I like how Squaresoft went back to the "old fashioned" mage character. The true-to-life characters of 8 were a total turn off for me. That's what I play Tomb Raider and Resident Evil for. I like my RPGs to have strange, cartoon-looking charaters. FF9 has brought me back! Thank you Squaresoft!!!

FF9 the best is here |
| A gamer from Grayslake Illinois USA says (9/Apr/2001): |
FF9 is the best one yet. ITs intence videos Made 7 look like a supernintendo game. The 8 new characters were the coolest i have ever seen. A brilliant story line with a marvelous end. Squaresoft makes another great Final fantasy. Each person with awesome abilites makes up for the loss of the original 8 members of AVALANCHE.

One of the best RPG games of all time |
| Raymond from USA says (21/May/2001): |
FF9 is one of the best games ever made. Who ever said it sucked or did not like it needs to be shot in the leg and forced to play it again. I'm glad they put the real FF touch to this game with weird charaters, airships, not futuristic, and just plain amazing. FF7 and FF8 sucked because of the plots they had, everyone can use magic and summons, too futuristic, and everone was human. I'm come on, its not called Final Fantasy for nothing. Well, I'm glad Squaresoft brought back the Fantasy in Final Fantasy. Because FF7 and 8 could in some way and some possiblity happen, unlike FF9 and the others.

I'm going to ask you all a question... |
| Heather from New York, USA says (23/Jul/2001): |
I loved the game, as you all have already helped explain already, but there's a question I'd like to ask all of you a question. If someone were to write a book based on and about Final Fantasy IX, would you read it? I'd like to know your opinions, good or bad.

Final Fantasy Fantastic PSone Finalé! |
| Dean Birkett from Leeds, England says (6/Oct/2001): |
If you looked up the definition of brilliance in the PSone dictionary, you'd find pictures of Zidane Tribal, Eiko Carol, Amarent Coral, Vivi Orunitia, Garnet Til Alexandros the 17th and the tiny lil' mascot Oglops! This game is truly a cake-muncher and one hungry one at that. And with a truly deep storyline, and characters to match, this is a true K.O.!
Queen Brahne at war with neighbouring countries, Zidane and his band of genlemenly thieves are hired to kidnap her daughter Garnet and bring her to the safe outlying boundries of Lindblum, far away from Alexandria and Garnet's evil mother. But it turns out that Queen Brahne is only a backup of a more sinister force -the one known as Kuja. Kuja's evil plan - to bring down the panet of Gaia with the help of one evil suppressor known as Garland (later turning into his worst enemy) and the mist that covers the entire of Brahne's continent.
Can Zidane and his friends stop the evil Kuja before it's too late? 'Course he can! Just play an' see how, that's all I'm asking!

This game rules my life!( sad isn't it? ) |
| Chris from Northampton England says (16/Jan/2002): |
About three years ago I was on a holiday in the south of France and just on the day that we were going to head home to England, We stopped in a nearby supermarket called the "Giant"(pronounced in French) and I saw the game Final Fantasy VII. Remembering about 2 years before that I was round this kids house and he was trying to beat emerald weapon and I just loved watching the game so I decided to try it out. When I got home it was about 3am so I decided to get some sleep rather than playing it. When I woke up I saw it lying there next to my bed. I jumped up and slammed it in to my playstation and was exteremely pleasently suprised (even though the game was in french) The next day I got to the 69th floor of the Shinra tower and my mum was going shopping so I went with her and bought the English copy of the game. for three years I have played these games solidly for 12 hours every day. Before FF9 came out I was reading a preview of it in the Official Playstation magazine. Looking at the screenshots I was not too impressed, but the moment I got that game I have played it solidly and have now completed it for my 12th time. I love these games, I would even bet you that no one else loves these games more than me! Every single peice of school work has a Final Fantasy influence. If there were more stars at the top they would all be filled, Thankyou for reading.

The Beast RPG I've Played In A long Time |
| Aaron James Rose from Warwick, England says (29/May/2002): |
Ever since I completed FF7 and FF8 I've been searching for a new RPG game to start at so got Final Fantasy IX! One thing it has over the other games is the fact that the main character isn't a stiff, loner that eventualy falls in love! (That bit realy pisses me off!). The game has much more action that the previos games and the movies are much better. Altho tha summons arnt as powerfull that have a much better and cooler part to the game and the storyline, EG: Barehe useing Odin the destroy Cleyra Bahumut blowing up Barehe ect. Completley stuning graphics let you see the buitey of Piniclle Rock and gloomy Memoria in full detaial. Keeping chocobos isn't as good as on FF7 but still good,
but golden chocobos can fly wich is good. Plus you save the game with theese little creatures called Moogles (My favourite moogle is Stiltskin, I HATE Mogster!) Like all the other games it gets very strange at the end. I havent completed it yet but i'm on disc four, I can't beat the second Chaos Gardian in Memoria!
So in the end I'd give Final Fantasy IX 10 out of 10!

Simpley the best!!!!!!!! |
| Marc from Goes, Zeeland says (9/Jul/2002): |
Man This game rocks! Everything about it is perfect: the story, characters, summons and of course the graphics. I bought the game in December 2001 and now i'm playing it for the thirt time. I also have FF VI and FF VIII, but IX is the best. FF VI has a good story, but the characters are a little bit lame. FF VIII was at everything good but IX much better. The most annoying part is the start of the game. It's boring and has to much text. But later on the game begins to get very good i'm now at Cleyra just before you fight the Antlion. And I think i'm going to play it much more.

Great but not perfect |
| Duane Foster (FF King) from London England says (19/Jul/2002): |
This was the first Final Fantasy game i played on Playstation. At first i find that the CG graphics were excellent and that the characters looked like a cartoon. once i got into the game i find that it had a great beginging in the first disc but after that the game went down hill, with a crazy story line which weren't to involing. Although the battles were of a good quality and pace with good graphics but nothing else really opealed to me. Overall this is good but i think you should only buy it if you are a hardcore Final Fantasy RPG fan.
Graphics 9/10 | Gameplay 8/10 | Lifespan 10/10 | Sound 9/10 | Fun Factor 8/10
Overall 88%
