Difficult to play even with cheat codes | | Steven Dare from Omaha, NE, USA says (5/Sep/2001): | I am one of only seven people, it would seem, who feel this game falls far short of what a game should be, but it truly does. I am a game designer, and I will play lousy games as well as good ones, because they teach me what to avoid in making my own games, and this game taught me a lot of that. It is true that the game is visually stunning, and looks incredibly cool, but the look of the game is half the problem. The only other game I've ever come across with controls similar to this is Tomb Raider -- instead of the stick moving you in the direction you push it, left and right pivot the character, and only up or down move the character, forward and back. With Tomb Raider, that's fine, because the camera angle is always from behind Lara. In this game, the camera angle is fixed in each scene, and the characters move through the scene, and acurately controlling them becomes difficult. Also, I have a complaint about this game that I have made about games as popular as Final Fantasy -- A game should be able to be saved at any point, no matter what. In this game, you can only save when the cell phone rings, and that doesn't happen often. I had invulnerability cheats active, one-shot kills, and a walkthrough on my computer that I was referring to, and I still couldn't get through this game, because the controls are clumsy and it's just too frustrating to do the same puzzles over and over again since you can't save where you want. I nearly threw my Playstation across the room.
| Not a bad little number | | Sharkey from Edinburgh, Scotland says (1/Mar/2001): | On seeing this game in the "pre-owned" section of my local games store, I thought, 'Great, I'll be having that then!' As I've always wanted to try it, being a fan of the Resident Evil series, Silent Hill etc. My initial thought after starting it up was 'I like it,' as it does look pretty good. The idea of the animated backgrounds gave the game a lot more depth and atmosphere, the only problem with them was the fact that the loop's beginning and ending very rarely met up, so you got a nice big jump in the scenery every now an again.
A final negative point would be that the game was kinda short for a 4 discer, and the endings for me could've been a little better.
Overall I did enjoy the game and the anime graphics which were refreshing. I will look forward to buying the sequel.
Overall 7
Happy Gaming
| Very Good Game! | | Fat Mike from Washington, USA says (30/Jan/2001): | I've never really liked survival-horror games, but I really liked this one. It's challenging, but not too challenging, and the characters are great. It's a little short, about 6 and a half hours (with a strategy guide, of course) And you can access 4 of the 5 endings by just going back to the last save point, and beating the last boss again, which is kinda lame. And the endings aren't all that great, either. But it's a good game, and I recommend giving it a try.
| FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | | Master J from Beaverton says (12/May/2001): | This is the sweetest game I have ever played. I used to think Final Fantasy was the Holy Grail of RPG's. Not any more. The only way this game could be any better is if they relaesed it on Dreamcast or PS2 or maybe even team play mode On Line? This whole game beginning to end is just 1 long interactive movie sequence. Freaking Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
