Classic Matches A Piece of Cake |

The Classic Matches are a piece of cake in this game which I have got back into after 8 years. I finished with a 50-24 last night with Japan over the ABs. Those of you out there with the highest scores will struggle in this match because you can't go wide, wide ,wide because you don't have the speed and you can just go fend, fend fend because the Japs don't have many fends. The lineouts are the best way of getting possession get those rolling mauls to take you over the tryline or close enough for droppies. It's outdated but is still great multi player with heaps of mates. The graphics are bad but you have to expect that. Theorganisation of defence is what makes it superior to all other rugby games. You can control them far better than newer games. I also like looking for players that are still playing at the top level like Gregan, Thomas and Dawson. It is great the way that some teams have different strengths with their style of game. I like the Aussies while my mate loves the ABs and another guy I know likes the Poms. I haven't gone through the process of getting a cricket score against some useless team. The worst team is Singapore followed by Ivory Coast. Thailand are a favourite with the crazy names and the red haired openside flanker.
In summarising it is still a great game especially multiplayer.

I've had game 8 years now and play it everyday! The graphics don't bother me but the game is too easy. It only starts to get challenging in multi-player mode. When you master the game you can pick up new stills like off-loading in the tackle and Gary Owens'. Bill McLaren is great and commentary like 'its hot, its humid and sticky' is legendary. Well done Codemasters / Rage, still waiting for JL2......
Highest score is 284-0 when i was SA against Netherlands. Joel Stransky with total of 108 pts. Can't beat NZ with Japan in Classic match. Impossible!!

The game is by far the best rugby game on the market, a couple of things lacking, graphics & the ability to change the team around unlike the EA sports rungby 2002 & 2004 on PS2. Although this game brings hours upon hours of enjoyment if you like rugby, even after being on the market for the past 7 years.
The secert to winning in this game is to start on easy & leasrn all the buttons & moves before you start pressing on to other modes. It's even possible to beat a team by 120+ in 7 minute game.
All i can say don't knock till your've played it. Go the All Blacks

this game... $#< remove me > at ! graphics, basic, dated teams and limited commentary. and it's still the best rugby game by miles!! i still can't beat NZ with Japan though. i was winning once but, surprise surprise they scored with about 20 seconds to go. i only wanted to know what happens when you complete that!!!
scored over 200 points countless times and with jonah, ran all the way roung the whole pitch to score in the corner. the abuse! why doesn't rage/codemaster make another game? EA don't have a clue when it comes to gameplay for rugby games. they've got the detail spot on though

This game is such a weird game I think it would be priceless. It is boring, it sucks badly tooo... i reccomend rugby 2004/2001 on ps2 or if u like rugbyleague, you'll like stacey jones rugby league. The gameplay - i hate it (8/20) Sound - don't care (20/20) Graphics - really bad (3/20) Value - i reckon it would be priceless! (0/50) Lasting - I would get bored in 1 day! (0/20) Control - not bad (18/25) Stress - not much (43/50) Difficulty - EASY AS (0/5 Million)

Jonah Lomu rugby is the best rugby game ever by a long way. I have rugby and rugby 2004 for the PS2 and they are not a patch on the great game. I just can't understand why rage and codemasters didn't make another lomu rugby game. I would just add injuries, subs and few club teams.
I have beaten NZ with Japan although it took a while. The way to do it is to get a line out let NZ win it then run through the line and takle the player man and ball. Also when you have the ball add loads of men to the ruck (which will force NZ to do the same) then you can spread it out to the winger on the left hand side. This guy can hand off from side on.
Bill McLaren is brilliant. Things like "that could have put him in ward 4". "I hope not bill that is a maternaty ward".
The gameplay is cool and my brother and I after 4 years still love it very much.
Lomu fans I salute you.

To the guy who said you cant 260 points without cheating, yes it is possible and ive got proof. I beat ivory coast with france and scored 262 points and it wasnt too hard either.
Jonah is a bit old on the graphics but the fun factor is still good after 6 years. The controls are easy and once your advanced you can learn how to pull of tricks like the pop pass, bump out of tackles and use them successfully...

I bought this game with Brian Lara not really expecting much from it. I never really played it until one day when I felt like making fun of a rubbish game. When I played it I found there was nothing to make fun of apart from the graphics. Also that it doesn't have any famous players from today. The controls are easy to get the hang of and it displays some of them on the bottom of the screen anyway. It's easy for beginners with teams like Hong Kong and Germany and hard for experts with New Zealand and England. The commentary is better than most games. If you find it anywhere and think you might enjoy a rugby game then buy it because it's a bargain. I still can't beat New Zealand but I know I will sometime. That's all.

Well first and foremost this game is like off the mutha F***N meat man far out where do I start well firstly the game is easy to pick up and unlike Rugby 2004 its a fast pace game. I reckon they should bring out a Jonah Lomu Rugby 2 out and on that you should have the players from now and should be able to unlock the original Jonah Lomu teams and also graphics, Stadiums and Teams, also have cheats enabled that would be cool. My best results was when I played as England against Spain in Tournament mode and the score there was 103-0 so yea big ups to JOnah and bring out Jonah 2 !!!!!!!!!!!

This is a must buy for any rugby fan. ITs fast paced not a simulation but fun. 1 player is a bit easy. classic matches are easy. so Far im the only to beat NZ with Japan hehe. but i dont cheat cause u cant get more then 250 - 0 its impossible.

I have had this game since it was released and I have never looked back. It is much better compared to rugby on the PS2, it just more fluid and free playing!! The game play is a bit of a let down because it was so easy. But I have never beaten NZ with Japan in that last classic match. It was IMPOSSIBLE!!! I came within one point.... My best score is 336 to nil with France versus Ivory Coast. If you don't have this game get it NOW GODDAMIT!!! It is BEST!!!

far man this game is then best eva and i suck at it, my best score is NZ (me) losing against tonga 21-14 hahaha oh well first time , i am playing it wit my mate anton punivai, hes good at rugby, rugby 2004 is good, but lomu's is the classic game . i cant get over how good this game is it is great, i love the class fend and the jolly good old graphics. its a classic until the end of time. everone it the entire world should go out and buy it and spoil there kids rotten and go meet jonah lomu and hav fun and go to mc donalds afterwards. $#< remove me > at ! this game is the man, he got hit by some trucks yes indeed in that hit i would say so :)

This is the best Rugby game ever invented. I've played them all. From Megadrive EA Sports Rugby, Nintendo Rugby, PS2 Rugby 2000, 2001, 2004. Now it comes down to quality for instance the recent release of 2004 was the most anticpated game of Rugby released for a while. Now they might have alot of new teams but basically the game play is like Jonah Lomu Rugby. The graphics are the same and the quality of plays and breakdowns are the same. Apart from the controls are way more difficult. But why? Jonah Lomu was released in 1995 and EA sports Rugby 2004 released in 2003 you would have thought that someone in this here earth would have thought to have checked out the game play. Jonah gets 10 stars for its gameplay and the reality for the actual game of rugby and rules. The best there ever was, was invented in 1995 you'd expect 10 years later the game would be way more advanced but .................... Not......

Jonah Lomu is da bomb rugby game even tho da graphics are old its still way betta den Rugby 2000 u can control da game betta being able 2 pull players in & outta rucks & fend from both sides not like 2000 it also has way betta controlin over gameplay den 2000 especially man on man aye. I just hope dat 2004 has da gameplay of Jonah or im not buyin it

ITs a good game i won everything except for one game in the classic matches when japan play new zealand i got to within 5 points but thats all i got 258 to 0 against wales with new zealand.Its a bit old i hope for the new rugby 2004 coming out to be better.

Even though the graphics are old this is still the best psx game in history of playstation. Still good to play 4 player when on the B Y'z. Best result was 100-3 with me as england and computer as samoa in a 15 min game.
I hope they make a game similar to this but better.

This is the greatest game ever made! i love it. who cares if its a few years old, most of the players are retired and the graphics arent as good as they are today, this game is the best! Its a classic and no one can argue that, i think the graphics are just fine, and gameplay is awesome especially against a human, it always goes down to the last second. EVERYONE should buy this game.

The game is awesome, its the closest thing to actually playing the game u can get. It's not too hard to get into and once you know all the digits then your all good. The fend is unrealistic, you cant possibly fend off a whole team with one player. But what this game lacks in strategy it makes up for in entertainment.
ive been playing this game for several years and ive discovered how to actually push the envelope of the actual game itself.
Highest score in 5 minute match - 98-0 with France vs Ivory Coast.
After 1 minute 10 seconds the score was 26-0. And from there all hell broke loose.

Jonah Lomu is the greatest game of all time. I have had it for 8 years and i still play it every day with my broither. I can beat singapore 321-0 wif NZ! In 15 minute Games. The graphics r perfect game play is easy just loads of fun for all ages

I've had the game for 5 years now and I'm still not bored form playing it all day. I can waste Italy with the All Blacks 280-0.
(well thats my best score). I highly recommend the game even though its old school. (I AM A FREAK AT IT)
